[09:46]<kjfuccy>khaije1, i'm using Debian 3.1r2
[09:47]<lnvnzs>amphi: on the i386 platform, of course - mtrrs don't make much sense on, say, sparc
[09:50]<bfracxjfm>hello
[09:50]<ugsvr2fn>!greet Blackhold
[09:50]<mlcr>Hello, Blackhold
[09:51]<bfracxjfm>where i could download the iso of debian sid?
[09:51]<svzguggz>you can't
[09:51]<ugsvr2fn>!tell Blackhold about d-i
[09:51]<ugsvr2fn>Blackhold: You get can etch; then dist-upgrade to sid.
[09:51]<bfracxjfm>uh... and then if I want to install directly a debian sid?
[09:51]<ugsvr2fn>Blackhold: You can't.
[09:51]<svzguggz>Blackhold: /msg dpkg sid faq
[09:52]<bfracxjfm>ok
[09:52]<bfracxjfm>thnks
[09:54]<fyv2>hello all!
[09:54]<sym>!greet litage
[09:54]<mlcr>Bonjour, litage
[09:54]<sym>er
[09:54]<fyv2>is there apackage of freetype2 with bytecode interpreter enabled?
[09:54]<sym>!greet litb
[09:54]<mlcr>Bonjour, litb
[09:55]<fyv2>thanks ;)
[09:55]<fyv2>my fonts looks very ugly here
[09:55]<fyv2>i'm using testing/unstable
[09:56]<svzguggz>which fonts?
[09:56]<svzguggz>fonts in your WM, fonts in some GTK-based apps?
[09:56]<fyv2>fonts which arent anti-aliased, which i prefer
[09:56]<fyv2>fonts rendered by freetype2
[09:57]<fyv2>isn't there a deb with freetype2 and bytecode interpreter enabled?
[09:57]<fyv2>or do i have to compile my own?
[09:57]<mjgjlrg>anyone use lids here?
[09:57]<sym>litb: apt-get build-dep freetype2; apt-get source freetype2; tar zxvf freetype*z; cd freetype*; ./configure --enable-bytecode-interpreter; make; make install;
[09:58]<sym>although I know nothing about fonts; and I'm probably wrong
[09:58]<fyv2>wtf?
[09:58]<sym>!tell donopan about anyone
[09:58]<fyv2>huh, thats nice
[09:58]<sym>I made up all that; you have to tweak it; Is there even a freetype2 package?
[09:58]<fyv2>whatr does build-dep do?
[09:58]<ljrmd>guys.. i need some help. im building apache from source with dpkg-buildsource, i need to make some source changes and i want to use the package system. i get a error in the make process and i can fix it, but i need to read the build logfile. but where the heck can i find it. dpkg-buildpackage does not have any log options. and my dpkg log file does not produce any output from the build.
[09:58]<svzguggz>sid: no
[09:59]<sym>litb: Gets all the dependencies for a package; so you can compile it; ie -dev packages
[09:59]<fyv2>ah, i didn't know that
[09:59]<mjgjlrg>hah that was nice sid
[09:59]<fyv2>suse hasn't that feature in rpm afaik. debian rulez :D
[10:00]<mjgjlrg>okay umm, *rephrases* Anyone familiar with LIDS that could give me a quick hand on writing ACL's and Why the default ones aren't working?
[10:00]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>Loady: all the build results go to stdout and stderr.
[10:00]<sym>!tell donopan about lids
[10:00]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>Loady: if you want to log them, do something like this: dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -us > foolog 2>&1
[10:01]<mjgjlrg>!tell sid about the_time_that_donopan_went_there_and_just_didnt_get_his_answers_so_he_came_to_#debian_on_freenode
[10:01]<ljrmd>dondelelcaro: thanks. i was hoping for a decent logging system with better output. but i guess i have to redirect it as you recomended.
[10:02]<sym>donopan: http://www.lids.org/news_archie-2001.html
[10:02]<sym>donopan: There is an irc channel #lids on irc.openprojects.net according to that web page.
[10:02]<mjgjlrg>awsome - thanks sid
[10:02]<jzrn>what's the latest version of gnome?
[10:02]<jzrn>2.8.3?
[10:03]<sym>no
[10:03]<jzrn>what does etch have?
[10:03]<sym>orge: The latest gnome from gnome.org is 2.14
[10:03]<sym>!info gnome etch
[10:03]<mjgjlrg>heh sid - dosnt exist :/
[10:03]<mlcr>gnome: (The GNOME Desktop Environment, with extra components), section gnome, is optional. Version: 1:2.12.3 (etch), Packaged size: 11 kB, Installed size: 20 kB
[10:03]<jzrn>damn, sarge is outdated as a motherfucker
[10:03]<mjgjlrg>back in 2001 as well :(
[10:03]<sym>orge: It's not outdated. It's called stable.
[10:04]<sym>orge: It's like that for a reason.
[10:04]<jzrn>ic
[10:04]<svzguggz>sid: libfreetype6
[10:04]<svjgnm>sid, while that might be true, and good, it is still outdated. Do not deny that
[10:04]<jzrn>stable but outdated, both have pros and cons
[10:04]<l0sgymjg>hi
[10:04]<yvzzy>are there an information technology professionals in here? i'm thinking of going into the field and was wondering the advantages of doing a College vs ITT-Tech
[10:04]<sym>orge: If you aren't running a production server; maybe you should think about etch for a desktop.
[10:04]<yvzzy>are there an information technology professionals in here? i'm thinking of going into the field and was wondering the advantages of doing a College vs ITT-Tech
[10:04]<yvzzy>or a vocational school ... if you will.
[10:04]<jzrn>i use sarge for both
[10:04]<yvzzy>sorry
[10:05]<sym>itari: This is a support channel for #debian not #life
[10:05]<sym>!tell itari about ot
[10:05]<jzrn>and using etch is like using windows aint it? not that stable
[10:05]<yvzzy>!sid where is the OT?
[10:05]<mlcr>itari: okay
[10:06]<sym>hello p0seidon
[10:06]<jzrn>what's etch gonna be?
[10:06]<svjgnm>stable in a few months
[10:06]<jzrn>the name of the toy story thing
[10:06]<svjgnm>thats what its gonna be
[10:06]<jzrn>i mean the code name
[10:06]<svjgnm>yes
[10:06]<svjgnm>always toy story
[10:07]<jzrn>i know it is
[10:07]<jzrn>what's the name
[10:07]<sym>orge: What do you mean?
[10:07]<svjgnm>etch will remain etch
[10:07]<svjgnm>the new testing AFTER etch has not been named yet
[10:07]<svjgnm>since well, etch isn't stable yet
[10:07]<svjgnm>so...
[10:07]<jzrn>i mean, the next after that
[10:07]<jzrn>the 'stable' name
