[19:34]<ygajzznav>abrotman: exim right now
[19:35]<z2zjvdzg>wols: sam mailbox group:<group> <rights>
[19:35]<yvzn2rf>thanks, later guys (and gals, they using IRC and Linux too)
[19:35]<-- yvzg2zp xzs pgpv>Pronounce like It-Ree-Ball")
[19:35]<m0urfrs>y'all hear about the manhattan building that collapsed?
[19:35]<z2zjvdzg>d0uglas: wrong channel
[19:35]<m0urfrs>sorry
[19:35]<z2zjvdzg>incorrect: maybe it was postfix that would create it
[19:35]<ygajzznav>abrotman: ah ;) i wanted the imap server to do it
[19:36]<z2zjvdzg>incorrect: how would the imap server know when there is mail coming in ?
[19:36]<z2zjvdzg>incorrect: or you mean when the user logs in for the first time?
[19:36]<ygajzznav>yes
[19:36]<ygajzznav>i want email to be ditched until they log in
[19:37]<z2zjvdzg>oh .. nfc .. ask #cyrus #courier or #dovecot
[19:37]<wjfs>abrotman: postfix can't and won't create users or maildirs for them. Just imagine what would happen with a dictionary spam attack :)
[19:37]<z2zjvdzg>and be prepared to wait .. they're low traffic channels
[19:38]<z2zjvdzg>wols: it's something like it will verify the user is in the <authmethod> file and then create the dir the first time they get mail
[19:38]<z2zjvdzg>i thought i saw it somewhere
[19:38]<z2zjvdzg>anyways .. not important .. not what he wanted
[19:39]<izjgxrgm>can someone point me to a simple utility (preferably in a debian package) to convert all extended ascii symbols in a file to utf-8?
[19:39]<mmuljgv>hi all
[19:40]<svnw>Ironhand: iconv
[19:40]<mmuljgv>can someone help me install debian from a live cd (ubuntu)
[19:40]<z2zjvdzg>you can't
[19:40]<rfnw___>utf8-migration-tool - convert to UTF-8 locale including renaming of files
[19:40]<z2zjvdzg>!d-i mdupont
[19:40]<mlcr>mdupont, you want to go to http://www.debian.org/releases/sarge/debian-installer/ - for your own good, and everyone else's.
[19:40]<mmuljgv>do i just fdisk and then make a chroot?
[19:40]<svnw>mdupont: /msg dpkg debootstrap ; /msg dpkg chroot install
[19:40]<z2zjvdzg>oh yeah .. or that :)
[19:40]<mmuljgv>thanks
[19:42]<mmuljgv>hmm, i dont know how to select the new window from the irc command line
[19:43]<mmuljgv>5
[19:43]<rnnnd>mdupont: depends on your irc client
[19:44]<vrsysvxr>mdupont: dude, stop
[19:44]<izjgxrgm>stew: thanks, iconv seems to do the trick
[19:50]<mzmafyacnz>how can i delete all the messages in mailq for exim?
[19:52]<sfzdnzxp>madclicker: /etc/init.d/exim4 stop && rm /var/spool/exim4/db/* && rm /var/spool/exim4/input/* && /etc/init.d/exim4 start
[19:54]<mmuljgv>dpkg: chroot install
[19:54]<mlcr>[chroot install] http://twiki.iwethey.org/Main/DebianChrootInstall, or http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/apcs04.html.en, or ask me about <debootstrap>
[19:55]<mmuljgv>6

[19:58]<ajmnsxnlxnzm>abrotman: i use etch
[19:58]<z2zjvdzg>codeshepherd: are you sure?
[19:58]<ajmnsxnlxnzm>ya
[19:58]<z2zjvdzg>codeshepherd: do you have the error log?
[19:58]<ajmnsxnlxnzm>i have
[19:59]<z2zjvdzg>!paster
[19:59]<mlcr>it has been said that pastebin is a place to paste all your conf/debugs/logs for other people in the channel to view without flooding the channel. We suggest http://pastebin.ca or http://channels.debian.net/paste/
[19:59]<ajmnsxnlxnzm>xorg.0.log has .."ould not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/X11/TTF/, removing from list!"
[19:59]<ajmnsxnlxnzm>Could*
[19:59]<z2zjvdzg>that has nothing to do with your driver
[20:00]<z2zjvdzg>codeshepherd: paste the whole thing in one of the above urls
[20:00]<npnpvxnzyjs>what are the important directories to backup besides /etc/ ?
[20:01]<rnnnd> /home
[20:01]<rnnnd>and /var maybe, depending on your use
[20:02]<rnnnd> /srv respectively
[20:02]<sydjgzvg>some parts of /var, all of /home, and other stuff, maybe /usr/local too
[20:02]<ajmnsxnlxnzm>http://channels.debian.net/paste/3104 abrotman
[20:02]<npnpvxnzyjs>azeem, simonrvn thank you both :-)
[20:02]<sydjgzvg>:)
[20:02]<npnpvxnzyjs>hm, which parts of var I wonder?
[20:02]<z2zjvdzg>depends on your usage
[20:03]<z2zjvdzg>codeshepherd: your fonts are totally out of whack .. dpkg -l | grep fonts
[20:03]<npnpvxnzyjs>there exists a directory under /var/, its name is backups/
[20:03]<npnpvxnzyjs>I never knew it was there
[20:04]<z2zjvdzg>eleftherios: no .. like if you have a database or web files .. or something of that nature
[20:04]<npnpvxnzyjs>abrotman, I have backed up the DB and www files, yes :-)
[20:04]<sydjgzvg>/var/lib, /var/www*, /var/spool, etc.
[20:04]<ajmnsxnlxnzm>http://channels.debian.net/paste/3105 abrotman
[20:04]<npnpvxnzyjs>abrotman, what is /var/backups/ really?

[20:06]<ajmnsxnlxnzm>http://channels.debian.net/paste/3106 abrotman
[20:07]<z2zjvdzg>codeshepherd: dpkg -P xfonts-base
[20:07]<z2zjvdzg>codeshepherd: then reinstall it
[20:07]<z2zjvdzg>or rather .. apt-get --purge remove xfonts-base
[20:09]<tarzeau>apt popcon
[20:09]<rlv>popcon is the Debian Popularity contest. See results at http://popcon.debian.org/ or install popularity-contest to participate. do the dpkg-reconfigure popularity-contest right after you answered all debconf stuff
[20:09]<ajmnsxnlxnzm>i removed it and installed it.. while installing i got the warning: /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc does not exist or is not a directory... does it matter ?
