[00:00]<svnw>vostorga: AoE allows for more flexibility. when you run out of room you can add more and more AoE servers that all just look like local storage to the client. (at some point you may run out of physical room in your NFS server case). You can also have more than one client mount the same physical disk and run a clostered filesystem over AoE such as GFS or lustre
[00:01]<svnw>s/clostered/clustered/
[00:02]<lnmnz_>What packages do I need to be able to use ipv6?
[00:02]<lxrvdjgcnd>etch: Starting openntpd: invoke-rc.d: initscript openntpd, action "start" failed.
[00:02]<lxrvdjgcnd>no other errors, what do i do?
[00:03]<rnnnd>phatmonkey: try to invoke it manually
[00:03]<vjsvjzrr>stew: mmm, AoE function in a lower level than tcp...
[00:04]<lxrvdjgcnd>azeem, /etc/init.d/openntpd start appears to work, but the package isn't properly installed
[00:04]<lxrvdjgcnd>azeem, wait, guess not. the init script shows no errors, but it hasn't started anything
[00:06]<vjsvjzrr>stew: you need a gb nic to put it to work, or maybe a couple o nics
[00:06]<svnw>vostorga: need? no. want? probably.
[00:07]<lxrvdjgcnd>azeem, oh, it's ntpd not openntpd. yes, the init script is starting it. i wonder why the installation isn't working
[00:07]<dpp>hi
[00:08]<dn_xnzn>does anyone know how to disable deamon messages sent to all tty's, when i call my dsl-provider i get some messages like KFM: firewall messages, ethernet connection messages bla: how can i disable those messages, please it's very annoying!
[00:08]<dpp>Anyone know how i install a filter blocking "undisclosed-recipients: ;" ?
[00:08]<dzzaufyw>me_here: mesg off?
[00:08]<lxrvdjgcnd>azeem, nm, a purged reinstall fixed it
[00:09]<dzzaufyw>me_here: mesg n
[00:09]<lxrvdjgcnd>sigh, i should probably try harder to fix problems before asking
[00:09]<rnnnd>phatmonkey: np
[00:10]<dzzncq1>hello, is there a way to check if a partition is formatted with the ext3 or ext2 file system? fstab says ext2 but I think I heard the previous admin saying that he tried running ext3 so I'm wondering if he is just mounting and ext3 partition as an ext2 one.
[00:11]<dn_xnzn>marculix: what's up with mesg n ? you mean bashrc ? system-wide ?
[00:11]<svnw>marek23: you can just force it to ext3: /msg dpkg ext2->ext3
[00:12]<cejgje>is the nvidia-kernel-source package available for etch?
[00:12]<dzzaufyw>me_here: wherever you want to configure that on your system (e.g. /etc/profile, .kshrc, .bashrc)
[00:12]<dzzaufyw>me_here: man mesg
[00:12]<ammjzc>!etch nvidia
[00:12]<mlcr>As of 2006-04-18, nvidia-graphics-drivers was removed from testing. Try getting the necessary files from http://people.debian.org/~rdonald/index.php Use something less than the -3 version of the 8756 driver to not have the dependency on Xorg 7.
[00:12]<svnw>marek23: "mesg n" is not what you are looking for. you likely need to stop syslog from logging those messages to '*', (man syslog.conf)
[00:13]<ammjzc>kronoz, check what dpkg said ^^
[00:13]<dzzncq1>stew: ?
[00:14]<cejgje>cydork: ok
[00:14]<svnw>marek23: can you ask a more specific question?
[00:15]<dzzaufyw>marek23: stat -f <your partition> (stat: display file or filesystem status)
[00:15]<dn_xnzn>marculix: it's definitely not enabled! i configured kmyfirewall, after that i get i think those are kernel messages sent to the current tty which is active, normally i would assume that syslog would get them and write somewhere in the logfiles, but instead they're sent to the tty's
[00:15]<vjsvjzrr>stew: thanks for help me, AoE sounds like a good solution
[00:16]<dzzncq1>stew: I just didn't understand your second message. I'll look into tune2fs, but I'm not sure yet that I want to convert to ext3, but thanks
[00:16]<svnw>marek23: oh i'm sorry, i got you confused with me_here
[00:16]<dn_xnzn>oh stew, thx i missed your message
[00:16]<dzzncq1>marculix: sweet, thanks
[00:18]<-- svgvsdyzgjvr_ xrs>/dev/null")
[00:18]<maam>hi...
[00:19]<maam>somebody has made a "Debien Custom CD"?
[00:19]<mvs>dccd: there's a couple
[00:19]<cejgje>cydork: ok, i've read that but i still don't understand how to install nvidia-glx
[00:20]<cejgje>dccd: personally i think kanotix is a very debian sid based live-cd
[00:20]<cejgje>dccd: #kanotix and http://kanotix.com/
[00:20]<maam>yes, but i need make a custom distribution...
[00:21]<maam>no a live cd...
[00:21]<maam>custom distribution instalable
[00:21]<cejgje>oh sorry i misunderstood (kanotix can be installed though)
[00:22]<maam>of course, but i not need a live.
[00:22]<lncurr>humn, a bit of dependency hell
[00:22]<fjw>a custom CD is not like a custom distrib dccd
[00:22]<lncurr>python2.4 does not seem to provide the python package
[00:22]<lncurr>but it depends on python-central
[00:22]<maam>Fox yes
[00:22]<lncurr>which depends on python
[00:22]<lncurr>which depends on python2.3
[00:23]<lncurr>so I can't install python2.4 without installing python2.3
[00:23]<lncurr>this is in etch
[00:23]<maam>i am read the "http://wiki.debian.org/DebianCustomCD", but my dubt is hot to make a "custom" distribution with debian.
[00:24]<fjw>dccd: you need a custom CD just to have a custom CD or you need something else ?
[00:24]<vjsvjzrr>the difference between a custom cd and a distribution is how many people is involved in that
[00:24]<fjw>http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/Modify
[00:24]<lncurr>hmn, actually never mind
[00:24]<svnw>pekuja: correct. this will change soon. python2.4 will soon become the default python
[00:25]<svnw>pekuja: actually i don't think python2.4 depends on python-central
[00:25]<lncurr>stew, ok... it actually seems like apt-get update fixed it...
[00:25]<maam>Fox, if, I need something but...
[00:25]<lncurr>stew, sorry to bother you all...
[00:25]<svnw>pekuja: no problem
[00:25]<fjw>dccd: what ?
[00:26]<maam>Fox, example, I have a custom Desktop, i need translate this
[00:26]<fjw>Ôo
[00:26]<maam>to a CD
[00:26]<yntzq>Anyone have any expirence with etch + ipw2200BG & ATi?
[00:27]<svnw>YeTr2: if you have a real question, just ask it
[00:27]<sjz>Question I'm trying to get an Acceleport 8 modem working in linux, I asked this before I do have some devices showing up but they have an unknown UART and I can't seem to get any responses from them.
[00:27]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>stew: ah
[00:27]<maam>Fox, i need a custom system. this it must have a installer
[00:27]<lncurr>stew, actually... there does seem to be a problem still... can't install python-numeric without python2.3, but yeah, I guess that's going to be fixed in the future
[00:28]<fjw>dccd: what do you call a 'custom desktop' ?
[00:28]<yntzq>stew: I have absolutely no idea what the hell I am doing trying to get both ipw2200BG & ATi and am wondering if there is a site out somewhere which someone has already done the work and documented it for others to easily follor
[00:30]<svnw>YeTr2: what does "uname -r" say?
[00:30]<maam>Fox, I can take an installation from debian, but this is not sufficient. I need to personalize it much but. Example: the Gnome must have a theme
[00:30]<yntzq>currently the 2.4.27-3-686 kernel
[00:30]<svnw>YeTr2: /msg dpkg etch upgrade kernel
[00:30]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>dccd: so install debian, but also install a set of packages that make the personalization that you need.
[00:31]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>dccd: you can rather easily modify d-i and/or tasksel to install exactly that set of packages.
[00:31]<fjw>dccd: and you think that it's the debian installer that handles the choise of gnome's theme ?
[00:31]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>dccd: there is some documentation extant about various methods of CDD creation
[00:31]<svnw>YeTr2: you should get the current etch kernel which supports ipw2200 out of the box. after that is running, download firmware for the 1.1.1 version of ipw2200 from ipw2200.sf.net and install it to /lib/firmware
[00:31]<maam>dondelelcaro, ajam... links ?
[00:32]<maam>dondelelcaro, Fox sorry, my english is very poor-
[00:32]<svnw>YeTr2: "/msg dpkg laptops" will give you 2 urls full of peoples installation reports as well
[00:32]<yntzq>stew: thanks, I'll start looking those up after this current update finishes
[00:32]<fjw>no problem dccd
[00:33]<mjgmnfnfzzzj>dccd: http://cdd.alioth.debian.org/; http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/
[00:35]<|mgggys|>msg dpkg paster
