[01:07]<lsdjg>wtf! Does anyone here have xcalc?
[01:07]<vxyrrpysx>well screw me, RadSurfer, never mind. sheesh I'm an idiot.
[01:07]<lsdjg>Does it exist in FC5?
[01:07]<zzmsuzpnz>Tools --> Options --> General --> Fonts & Colors
[01:07]<wvxnac>Anyone who can tell me why lftp fails to compile with openssl and why does the one that comes with fc5 not able to connect to ftp sites with auth ssl? curl isn't able to connect to those sites as well
[01:08]<vxyrrpysx>bah. even if I set the default font to Arial, it still comes up sans.
[01:08]<zzmsuzpnz>Just how far that goes to customize, is another matter.
[01:08]<lsdjg>My guess is your missing an optional library wtheck... as for which one, I dont know
[01:08]<zzmsuzpnz>You might have to do some tweaking in firefox files perhaps. Dont know.
[01:08]<gdf>wtheck: no idea. what happens when you try to compile it with ssl?
[01:08]<vxyrrpysx>tools>options? no existe.
[01:09]<zzmsuzpnz>what ver are you running dude?
[01:09]<zzmsuzpnz>1.5?
[01:09]<zzmsuzpnz>or 1.0 ? 0.8 ?
[01:09]<vxyrrpysx>1.5.0.1
[01:09]<2zrgypp>where can i find the fc5 apt rpm ??
[01:09]<zzmsuzpnz>bottom of tools menu, preferences / options
[01:09]<gdf>thingfish: edit -> preferences. 'content' tab
[01:09]<mzmznsvzj>braniff, apt is dead
[01:09]<vxyrrpysx>I was just wondering because in the last distro I used, fonts worked like magic.
[01:10]<vxyrrpysx>nyq: yeah been there, messed around, no difference.
[01:10]<wvxnac>nyq: compiles fine, detects one or two libs that openssl has installed (libs => lssl, libcrypto) but after compile and make install, doesn't conncet to ftps sites. Gives error
[01:10]<vxyrrpysx>apt is dead on *rpm distros* ;)
[01:10]<gdf>wtheck: does it have a compile time option like '--enable-ssl'? (see the output of './configure --help')
[01:10]<vxyrrpysx>it sure as hell ain't dead.
[01:11]<wvxnac>nyq: Yes, I compile it with => --with-openssl
[01:11]<lsdjg>umm... so in FC4, xcalc was in xorg-x11-tools
[01:11]<zzmsuzpnz>This is what I get running fc-3, fc-4, and win32... it all merges after awhile :-)
[01:11]<lsdjg>only, that package doesnt exist in FC5 that I can see
[01:11]<vxyrrpysx>hehe
[01:11]<lsdjg>at least, its not installed, and not available
[01:12]<zzmsuzpnz>what are they putting into snickers bars? one snickers and I am full the rest of the day!
[01:12]<gdf>wtheck: can you see whether it's enabled in 'config.h' (or similar). does lftp binary link produced against any openssl libraries (ldd `which lftp`)?
[01:12]<vxyrrpysx>man I can even change the font size in firefox and nothing changes.
[01:12]<vxyrrpysx>oh well.
[01:13]<wvxnac>I'm re-installing lftp through yum again. If it doesn't work, I'll recompile it through source. Working on it ..
[01:14]<gdf>wtheck: i'll have a look myself aswell.
[01:15]<gdf>thingfish: have you been into the 'advanced' menu? firefox doesn't 'listen' to the gnome font settings so it's not really great, for integration
[01:16]<vxyrrpysx>nyq: I'll check, thanks!
[01:16]<vxyrrpysx>doesn't seem to be much there, relevant to my issue, at least.
[01:17]<lsdjg>you know, missing xcalc shouldnt be bothering me this much... but it is. Its amazing how such a little program can be so handy
[01:17]<mzmznsvzj>thingfish, thanks for the correct.. the support for apt has been dropped upstream for FC.. and I would expect other rpm based distros also
[01:17]<mzmznsvzj>correction
[01:17]<lsdjg>I suppose I could use kcalc
[01:17]<zzzufzvjz>hello all
[01:17]<vxyrrpysx>daMaestro: yeah, I'd imagine so too.
[01:17]<zzzufzvjz>XGL works flawlessly with fedora
[01:18]<zzzufzvjz>stil lwaiting for aiglx to support nvidia :P
[01:18]<vxyrrpysx>daMaestro: I guess the next great thing for rpm-based distros is supposed to be SMART?
[01:18]<gdf>wtheck: according to the fc5 lftp src.rpm it is compiled with '--with-openssl=/usr ' so ssl support should be enabled. I'd say if it's not a problem with the site, then it's possibly a bug you should file against lftp
[01:18]<wvxnac>ldd `which lftp` output for the version (lftp-3.4.3-1) yum installed doesn't show openssl libs in it.
[01:18]<zzzufzvjz>thingfish: yes
[01:18]<vxyrrpysx>nagulator: where'd you get it from?
[01:18]<mzmznsvzj>i have not used smart.. I really support the work done on yum
[01:18]<zzzufzvjz>what xgl?
[01:18]<wvxnac>nyq: Ok.
[01:18]<vxyrrpysx>yeah well I'd not put up with rpm-based distros without yum.
[01:18]<mzmznsvzj>i respect the author and think it has shown enough progress to earn my respect
[01:18]<vxyrrpysx>nagulator: yes, xgl.
[01:19]<zzzufzvjz>ok wait for link
[01:19]<vxyrrpysx>I agree, daMaestro - I mean it has its faults, but if you have a fast internet connection, they're tolerable.
[01:20]<mzmznsvzj>thingfish, i admit i used apt until yum started to work itself out
[01:20]<mzmznsvzj>but thanks for the correction on my remark about apt-rpm support
[01:20]<zzzufzvjz>xgl download for fedora: http://www.linuxfans.org/nuke/modules.php?name=Site_Downloads&op=geninfo&did=4296
[01:20]<vxyrrpysx>oh you don't have to thank me, daMaestro, I'm just a lowly peon.
[01:20]<zzzufzvjz>remember to enable compiz by adding it in sessions
[01:21]<zzzufzvjz>specifically the things to add are:
[01:21]<vxyrrpysx>thanks nagulator
[01:21]<dycnpjj>Ok ::confused:: Machine spikes in load to 12-15 sometimes, nothing is reported in top really, and I don't know how to tell with 'free' or 'top' how much memory is actually being used. It always says cache is using cache/buffer is using most of memory.
[01:21]<zzzufzvjz>compiz --replace gconf
[01:21]<dycnpjj>Can anyone give any insight?
[01:21]<zzzufzvjz>gnome-window-decorator
[01:21]<vxyrrpysx>gosh I wish I read chinese...
[01:22]<zzzufzvjz>just download the tarball
[01:22]<zzzufzvjz>then add the two things I told you in your session
[01:22]<vxyrrpysx>ok
[01:22]<zzzufzvjz>there are a couple of things more but you will figure them out, the crucial stuff is that you add these two to your session startup
[01:23]<vxyrrpysx>how big's the tar.bz2 file?
[01:23]<zzzufzvjz>I still wonder why fedora forums do not have any information on XGL and I have to read chinese to understand how to put it up correctly
[01:23]<zzzufzvjz>2.5 mb
[01:23]<zzzufzvjz>:P
[01:23]<vxyrrpysx>I'm on dialup. If it's like 100MB I'll forget it.
[01:23]<vxyrrpysx>oh cool.
[01:23]<zzzufzvjz>2.5 mb
[01:23]<zzzufzvjz>once you untar it do: xgl-settings as root
[01:23]<dycnpjj>Ok ::confused:: Machine spikes in load to 12-15 sometimes, nothing is reported in top really, and I don't know how to tell with 'free' or 'top' how much memory is actually being used. It always says cache is using cache/buffer is using most of memory. Anyone shed some light?
[01:23]<gdf>mikefoo: I prefer htop (yum install htop)
[01:24]<vxyrrpysx>ok
[01:25]<zzzufzvjz>I will be here for a bit, tell me if you have any problems
[01:28]<vxyrrpysx>ok, thanks, nagulator, you're being more than kind.
[01:28]<vxyrrpysx>linux people are the best! :)
[01:28]<zzzufzvjz>lol
[01:29]<wvxnac>while compiling ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-openssl=/usr/include I get => checking for openssl library... OPENSSL_LIBS="-lssl -lcrypto" OPENSSL_LDFLAGS="-L/usr/include//lib -R/usr/include//lib" OPENSSL_CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/include//include
[01:29]<vxyrrpysx>it's true, though, really.
[01:29]<vxyrrpysx>linux is all about sharing.
[01:29]<zzzufzvjz>you will be needing some extra info to make it work correctly though, make sure you run things as I told you, then we work it out; btw have you installed the nvidia driver?
[01:29]<vxyrrpysx>well, really, I should say GNU/Linux is all about sharing.
[01:29]<zzzufzvjz>no proprietary driver = no xgl mate
[01:30]<vxyrrpysx>nagulator: oh yes, installed and functioning.
[01:30]<vxyrrpysx>;)(
