[13:17]<cgg-ug>Anyone have a clue why a USB device would be ignored by udev on boot, but calling udevstart or unpluggin/plugging the cable after boot gets it recognised?
[13:33]<zxggzd>[OT] If you have 16GB RAM, would you "have" to have a swap entry in /etc/fstab?
[13:36]<djglnddy>Hi, does anyone here use imwheel? I dont manage to build it on FC5...
[13:45]<njzcd>ghenry: I'd recommend at least a little bit of swap, maybe 512MB or 1GB
[13:46]<njzcd>however it's impossible to say, becuase you don't tell us how much RAM is used
[13:52]<agv2>pls easiest way to include a user in sudoers - safely (i.e. without damagig it )
[13:52]<njzcd>man -k sudoers will tell you the answer
[14:14]<cygnvyc>hi. i've just recently switched to FC5 from another distribution. i'm having trouble with one issue. using emacs in a gnome-terminal, i'm used to using C-space to set the mark. in FC5, this doesn't seem to work in a gnome-terminal--it works fine in xterm, and if I run a GUI emacs.
[14:14]<gnmxnfl> need to play a video that has .dat extensions where do i find a software?
[14:15]<cygnvyc>from googling around, it looks like C-space and Shift-space are used for input method switching. I'm using en_US.UTF-8, and i don't have scim/xim/etc. installed or enabled as far as i can tell. the keyboard is configured as a plain US 105-key one, etc. i'm a bit stuck. :-)
[14:25]<gynfvan>how do I get the now playing plugin for kopete in core 5?
[14:28]<grgjvrfc>my fc3 cannot turnoff the computer completely, do you know how to fix that ?
[14:29]<gnmxnfl>how can i use console yum in updating a gcc+ libraries..? i got a local cds.. on it

[14:55]<svzzc>hi, does any1 know how to stop fedora core's default iptables rules when logging int?
[14:55]<svzzc>logging in
[14:56]<eusr>stark when logging in?
[14:56]<svzzc>Eusa: well iptables starts some type of service for this iptables rule
[14:57]<svzzc>i want to know wheres that file or what it is to stop it from setting those rules once i log in
[14:57]<svzzc>iptables should be flushed once i reboot.
[14:58]<eusr>stark: nope, still no idea what you mean. ANyways. /etc/sysconfig/iptables is the iptables rules file.
[14:58]<eusr>stark you can stop it starting at all by disabling it from starting with /sbin/service iptables off
[14:59]<svzzc>Eusa: i don't think you knwo what i mean, if you log into fc5, and do iptables -L, fc5 has set some default iptables rules
[14:59]<svzzc>do yo know that?
[15:00]<svzzc>i want those rules to stop being set
[15:00]<czyllsfx>what package is "alternatives" part of?
[15:00]<eusr>stark feel free to patronise me. it really makes me want to try to understand you.
[15:01]<svzzc>Eusa: im not patronising you, im trying to make you understand
[15:03]<fyguw_drgau>stark, Check your /etc/sysconfig/iptables file for any rules
[15:06]<am2jj>I updated my fc4 to fc5 (I use vmware to run software test on other os) now my vmware doesn't work (any know fix for vmware on fc5)
[15:12]<svzzc>hey guys
[15:12]<svzzc>found the problem, it was in it was in /etc/sysconfig/iptables.config
[15:12]<svzzc>thanks who ever mentioned it
[15:13]<eusr>*sigh*
[15:14]<svzzc>actually
[15:14]<svzzc>problem might still be here
[15:14]<svzzc>lol
[15:32]<sgrg11>having problems with changing the defaults in /etc/pam.d/vsftpd seems that the alternative suggested contents just doesnt work
[15:32]<sgrg11>it was sugested that i use :
