[02:34]<sbzzzgjpp>I, dorkily, named my big machine I use most of the The Mothership, so SpaceDock.batcave just seemed appropriate
[02:34]<vxyrrpysx>Southern_Gentlem: I don't blame her. That blowing a hole into the floor gets kind of loud.
[02:34]<sbzzzgjpp>That's a good idea. I'll have to suggest it though to my housemates... maybe they'd let me.
[02:35]<vxyrrpysx>I am boring and just let the installer name my machine for me.
[02:35]<sbzzzgjpp>Hookay, changed it to 127.0.0.1 SpaceDock.batcave SpaceDock localhost.localdomain localhost -> same problem with my Administration tools
[02:35]<ljlxknd>thers a disused underground station in central london that would make an AMAZING data warehouse
[02:35]<vxyrrpysx>SBaranoff: you need to restart networking.
[02:36]<vxyrrpysx>at least, I think.
[02:36]<sbzzzgjpp>I'll just restart the comp. Idiot me just logged off and back into gnome ><
[02:36]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>SBaranoff, ifconfig eth0
[02:36]<sbzzzgjpp>Hang on, doing a full restart - it's just safer. Can you tell I'm still hanging to window's roots?
[02:36]<vxyrrpysx>hey it was cool that I saw /etc/init.d/<service> <action> works in FC.
[02:37]<vxyrrpysx>I actually like fc5 quite a bit.
[02:37]<vxyrrpysx>I really don't see how they keep on top of all this new software.
[02:37]<sbzzzgjpp>It looks really nice. I've liked FC since I started using it last year. I got 2 months to play with it last summer and now I'm back at learning.
[02:38]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>SBaranoff, i thought i reconized that nick
[02:38]<sbzzzgjpp>Hmm?
[02:38]<vxyrrpysx>well it's gnome 2.14 that looks nice.
[02:38]<agv2>thingfish: maybe all of us help by installing using asking questions
[02:38]<sbzzzgjpp>Wait wait wait - where do you live Southern?
[02:38]<vxyrrpysx>although I guess fc pretties up a lot of things.
[02:38]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>Virginia
[02:39]<sbzzzgjpp>Hmm, first time in here and I don't know any one in Virginia. Where do you think you recognize it from?
[02:39]<agv2>me I am determined to install in my cusomers' machines as many FC5 as possible , so far 5 installed
[02:39]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>i thought you were in here last summer
[02:39]<agv2>still there are catches
[02:39]<vxyrrpysx>cntb: oh really? production environment?
[02:40]<agv2>laymen would not guess how to install flashplayer
[02:40]<sbzzzgjpp>Hmm. I don't think so. Last summer was installing FC3, learning how to set up apache, downloading FC4, pounding nails into my eyes to set up WebDAV with apache. I didn't think to check the IRC channel until tonight ><
[02:40]<sbzzzgjpp>Okay, full restart and the same thing - doing an ifconfig
[02:40]<agv2>channel here pointed me the http://fedorasolved.org which is a splendid step-bystep source
[02:40]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>cntb, after you get one installed do nfs installs on the rest
[02:41]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>cntb thank you
[02:41]<agv2>Southern_Gentlem: pls explain the NFS install a bit more
[02:41]<agv2>1more sentence pls
[02:41]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>on behave of the fedora Unity project
[02:42]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>mount and copy dvd to the harddrive export via nfs
[02:42]<agv2>Southern_Gentlem: ru a packager or a developer ?
[02:42]<vxyrrpysx>fedora unity project? oh you all are nasty people.

[02:44]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>hmmm i think there is a nfs howto on fedorasolved.org
[02:44]<agv2>k trying
[02:45]<vxyrrpysx>hey Southern_Gentlem, where is everyone?
[02:45]<sbzzzgjpp>Oh I'm so lost on this. Maybe just reinstalling FC5 would be easier? *sigh* But then what would I learn?
[02:45]<axn>evening
[02:45]<sbzzzgjpp>Evening Che
[02:46]<axn>SBaranoff, whats the prob?
[02:46]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>SBaranoff, ok etho is getting an ip address
[02:47]<vxyrrpysx>take it easy folks
[02:48]<lguvv>any body know any thing about the winbound w86c940
[02:48]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>SBaranoff, ok etho is getting an ip address
[02:48]<sbzzzgjpp>Oy, I'm back
[02:48]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>SBaranoff, how does eth0 get its ip
[02:48]<sbzzzgjpp>Static
[02:49]<sbzzzgjpp>I defined it, but it's getting on the net just fine
[02:49]<lguvv>or where would be a good place to start on getting info on getting my niccard to work
[02:49]<sbzzzgjpp>For Che: Heh. Trying to set up a brand new FC5 box (almost.) The short and sweet: Install FC5, install tightvnc server/viewer. Run server, tried to connect, couldn't. Opened System->Administration->Network checked my IP, it was right. Closed that. Opened System->Administration->Security Level and Firewall and it won't open. Now I can't get any of the system-config-* files to open.
[02:49]<sbzzzgjpp>That's where I'm doing the posts to the dump site from, is the fc box
[02:50]<axn> what happens if you try to start system-config-* on a terminal?
[02:50]<sbzzzgjpp>Nothing
[02:51]<sbzzzgjpp>interestingly enough /usr/bing/pirut won't open either.
[02:51]<sbzzzgjpp>It flashes as if it were opening something and then nada
[02:51]<axn>ps aux |grep python
[02:51]<axn>output?
[02:51]<sbzzzgjpp>Southern_Gentlemen has me check /etc/hosts - was set to 129.0.0.1 instead of 127. I fixed that, did a full restart. One sec, let me do that
[02:51]<lguvv>any body know any thing about the winbound w89c940 nic card
[02:52]<sbzzzgjpp>root 2654 0.0 0.2 3908 716 pts/2 S+ 15:53 0:00 grep python
[02:52]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>che /sbin/fixfiles relabel ?
[02:52]<axn>only if theres AVC messages
[02:52]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>pnutt nope
[02:52]<lguvv>grrr
[02:52]<axn>pretty hard to tell what the user really did :)
[02:52]<lguvv>how anoying
[02:53]<sbzzzgjpp>Yes yes, I know, running as rood, bad idea. I had the box up for about 3 minutes before it did this to me.
[02:53]<axn>did you login graphically as root?
[02:53]<sbzzzgjpp>*nod*
[02:53]<sbzzzgjpp>I did
[02:53]<axn>are you still logged in graphically as root?
[02:53]<sbzzzgjpp>Yes
[02:53]<axn>log off and log back on as user
[02:53]<agv2>SBaranoff: maybe try sudo till you give the right permissions to regular user
[02:53]<sbzzzgjpp>Ookay, let me make one
[02:54]<axn>su - on a terminal will do
[02:54]<sjuvxgzg_gggvfgd>pnutt, sorry you got a cheap window ethernet card
[02:54]<agv2>many linux problems are premissions problems
[02:54]<agv2>am I right experts ?
[02:54]<axn>cntb, why setup sudo for a single user box when you also have the root pass.
[02:54]<sbzzzgjpp>*tries to do it graphically* darnit...
[02:54]<axn>cntb, many linux problems are handling problems.
[02:54]<axn>cntb, wrong way of doing :)
