[14:47]<pusn`>Failed to read read or parse configuration '/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf'. [ !! ]
[14:48]<pusn`>It points me to README, but I can't find what I need...and to be honest I don't know what I need.
[14:48]<dyrdrr>Check your /etc/wpasupplicant.conf
[14:48]<dyrdrr>Or was it wpa_supplicant.conf?!
[14:48]<dyrdrr>"SIM" is wrong.
[14:49]<dyrdrr>Check for examples in /usr/share/doc/wpa_supplicant-*/wpa_supplicant.conf.example
[14:49]<pusn`>It also complains about FAST
[14:50]<pusn`>By the way, which is the best method to unpack .gz files?
[14:50]<dyrdrr>Can you dcc your wpa..conf? And tell me what you want (WPA/TKIP)?
[14:50]<pusn`>tar.gz is unpacked by 'tar zxvf' but just gz files like that example ?
[14:50]<dyrdrr>gunzip ;)
[14:50]<dyrdrr>fuse`, some editors do that automatically. Like vim
[14:51]<dyrdrr>So you can open a gzipped text file in vim.
[14:51]<pusn`>Thanks. I like that gunzip method and then nano. :)
[14:51]<dyrdrr>:)
[14:52]<dyrdrr>But be careful. gunzip will remove the .gz file by default I think. :)
[14:52]<dyrdrr>Not that it matters much, but just that you know ;=
[14:52]<dyrdrr>;)
[14:52]<pusn`>Yes it did.
[14:52]<dyrdrr>Same goes for bunzip
[14:53]<pusn`>But did I catch it right from manual that with wpa_supplicant I can only connect to networks which has preconfigured ?
[14:53]<dyrdrr>Another good way of reading gzipped/bzipped text files would be "gzcat/bzcat <text.gz>|less"
[14:53]<dyrdrr>fuse`, preconfigured?
[14:54]<pusn`>So if I go to some cafe and I haven't configured it, then I can't use it ? About year or half ago I configured wireless on my sisters laptop and if i'm right, it can connect to any network without configuring.
[14:54]<pusn`>preconfigured like I add info about network to conf file and then pc can connect to it
[14:56]<dyrdrr>fuse`, you can emerge wpa_supplicant with qt3 in USE. That'll give you a gui. And then there's an option in wpa...conf that tells wpa_supp who can access its control interface from userspace. Say you tell it everyone in group "wheel" should be allowed and your user is in this particular group, then your user can use the gui (wpa_gui I believe) to scan for networks and connect to them. I didn't use it myself yet, but I guess it'll work.
[14:57]<dyrdrr>There's also a cli tool if you don't want qt I believe (wpa_cli?).
[14:57]<pusn`>I trid wpa_gui few minutes ago...it doesn't show my interface...that's one big problem. :)
[14:58]<dyrdrr>fuse`, wpa_supplicant has to be running for it to work. So /etc/init.d/net.ath0 has to be working.
[14:59]<dyrdrr>Maybe it works once you setup your wpa_s..conf properly.
[14:59]<pusn`>Yes and that's what I don't have working...I'm trying to figure out wpa_supplicant.conf... currently it's same like the example one...but I don't know what I need to change or add.
[15:00]<dyrdrr>fuse`, dcc it to me, maybe I'll see something.
[15:00]<pusn`>k
[15:00]<dyrdrr>Get rid of passwords before you send it ;)
[15:00]<dyrdrr>Allthough I doubt I live anywhere near you of course ;)
[15:00]<pusn`>I didn't set any password for my wifi.
[15:01]<pusn`>I'll do it soon but not right now.
[15:01]<dyrdrr>You're not using WEP/WPA/WPA2? What do you need wpa_supplicant for then?
[15:02]<pusn`>I should be asking it. :( I'm so confused.
