[09:16]<fy2nz>just normal use until I learn Gentoo better
[09:16]<dzzzyp>Garibaldi, (nice nick!) i haven't had a problem with reiser, then again, i haven't had an install of linux last more than a full year :\
[09:16]<fy2nz>like surfing and chatting
[09:16]<fy2nz>opening word docd
[09:16]<gzzy2zfmy>mngrif: reiserfs is not *bad*
[09:16]<fy2nz>docs*
[09:16]<gzzy2zfmy>but I've had problems with it on power failures
[09:16]<gzzy2zfmy>and their fsck sucks
[09:17]<gzzy2zfmy>so, on data partitions, I use ext3
[09:17]<dzzzyp>Fiber, i suggest resier then. reiser is better for small (<~4K) files than anything else out there, which makes emerge --rsync so much faster
[09:17]<fy2nz>So now where can I see all the /home and / list
[09:17]<dzzzyp>Fiber, small = cluster size = 4K in most cases
[09:17]<2fjrrsyn>otoh Reiser4 appears to be both very fast and virtually bullet-proof
[09:17]<gzzy2zfmy>Fiber: maybe consider having a /usr/portage partition that's reiserfs
[09:17]<gzzy2zfmy>heh
[09:17]<gfvggsvzz>what about a reiserfs /tmp ?
[09:17]<yntzq>Garibaldi: I havn't had much problems with power outages & reiserFS... maybe you are relating to reiser4?
[09:18]<gzzy2zfmy>ElvenStar: ext2 for /tmp
[09:18]<fy2nz>What is usr stand for
[09:18]<mgyvzzyjg>MissActek: I can't find it. I suggest just picking one of the tools that `eix -S sfv` finds you.
[09:18]<gzzy2zfmy>YeTr2: no, reiser3
[09:18]<fy2nz>user?
[09:18]<gzzy2zfmy>YeTr2: and it's pretty well known
[09:18]<gzzy2zfmy>at least here
[09:18]<myssaavnc>deitarion: Okay, thanks.
[09:19]<gfvggsvzz>i never had problems with reiser4 ... cept that once where i deleted the wrong partition but that was my fault
[09:19]<fy2nz>How do I list all stuff in /dev/ I type ls /dev/?
[09:19]<mgrm_ogg>sure
[09:19]<fy2nz>or I go in dev
[09:19]<gfvggsvzz>ls /dev/
[09:19]<gzzy2zfmy>ElvenStar: issue is it looks like it'll be a long time before reiser4 is merged into the mainline kernel
[09:19]<mgrm_ogg>you can cd /dev and then ls or you can just ls /dev from anywhere
[09:19]<gzzy2zfmy>the reiserfs folks have p-ed off some of the kernel devs
[09:19]<gfvggsvzz>yer
[09:20]<svgvggd>Hi. Using Radeon driver with MergedFB for a dual-headed setup. KDE compiled with xinerama support, but kwin does not recognize that there's 2 screens and maximizes windows across both. Metacity works fine in this case, so but kwin won't recognize there's 2 monitors. Any ideas?
[09:20]<gfvggsvzz>nitro sources used to include the reiser4 kernel patch
[09:20]<fy2nz>Dead_One I see a lot
[09:20]<fy2nz>no /home or /usr
[09:20]<mgrm_ogg>what are you trying to do?
[09:21]<fy2nz>So should I go reiser for all three partitions?
[09:21]<fy2nz>boot swap and root
[09:21]<gfvggsvzz>no
[09:21]<gfvggsvzz>ext3 for /
[09:21]<fyznsymn>SWEET!!!! theres an xfire plugin for gaim in portage
[09:21]<gzzy2zfmy>Fiber: ext3 for any partition where you don't want to lose data
[09:22]<vnpnzy`>i just wanted to recommend to everyone the game "neverball" in portage.
[09:22]<2fjrrsyn>mm-sources have Reiser4, also the RR4 and kororaa Live CDs
[09:22]<vnpnzy`>its pretty sweet.
[09:22]<gzzy2zfmy>might be slower, true, but is more stable
[09:22]<fy2nz>wait hdb1 is /
[09:22]<mgrm_ogg>/boot
[09:22]<mgrm_ogg>you made boot first, then swap then / right?
[09:23]<fy2nz>Yes
[09:23]<mgrm_ogg>hdb1 should be /boot then
[09:23]<fy2nz>yep
[09:23]<fy2nz>and swap is hdb2
[09:23]<mgrm_ogg>mke2fs /dev/hdb1
[09:23]<mgrm_ogg>mkswap /dev/hdb2
[09:23]<fy2nz>so /boot is know as /
[09:23]<mgrm_ogg>you're reading the install handbook right?
[09:23]<fy2nz>Yep
[09:24]<mgrm_ogg>/ is known as root
[09:24]<fy2nz>I know the commands for those
[09:24]<fy2nz>o
[09:24]<fy2nz>so hd3 is /
[09:24]<fy2nz>hdb3*
[09:24]<mgrm_ogg>/boot is were you put all your at boot required files, like grub configs kernels and whatnot
[09:24]<mgrm_ogg>nod
[09:24]<gzwdfwg>hey
[09:25]<gzwdfwg>is there any app for testing keyboard buttons? :P
[09:25]<gzwdfwg>i got ~ 9 keyboards i gotta test
[09:25]<gzwdfwg>^_^
[09:25]<gzwdfwg>some of them have a layer of vanilla coke inside
[09:25]<gzwdfwg>i need to seperate the working ones from the vanilla coke ones
[09:25]<fy2nz>lol
[09:25]<gzwdfwg>=-)
[09:25]<gfvggsvzz>lol
[09:26]<mgrm_ogg>how old are they keyboards?
[09:26]<fyeevslrwg>Gr3ml1n: console or kwrite ;p
[09:26]<vrfdghrfadjg>gnite folks
[09:26]<fy2nz>so / as ext3 and boot and swap as reiserfs?
[09:26]<gfvggsvzz>nn ValinHalcyon
[09:26]<gzwdfwg>different
[09:26]<gzwdfwg>i got me a logitech elite keyboard
[09:26]<gfvggsvzz>swap as mkswap
[09:26]<mgrm_ogg>if they're just plastic layer ones, not the old clickety push ones with metal springs... you can just wash them out
[09:26]<gzwdfwg>its the shiat. it's got protection for fluids.
[09:26]<gzwdfwg>but i gotta get rid of the older ones
[09:27]<fy2nz>ok
[09:27]<gfvggsvzz>Fiber> mkswap /dev/hdb2
[09:27]<fy2nz>so only boot is reiserfs
[09:27]<gfvggsvzz>yep
[09:27]<fy2nz>Should I activate swap too
[09:28]<gfvggsvzz>yes
[09:28]<mgrm_ogg>boot should be just ext2 but you can do whatever you want, (make sure you build with reiserfs in kernel not module)
[09:28]<fy2nz>swapon
[09:28]<gfvggsvzz>swapon /dev/hdb2 ?
[09:28]<fy2nz>Yea
[09:28]<gfvggsvzz>yep
[09:28]<fy2nz>yeesh
