[12:23]<rmzyrrg>xorg.conf does not exist and i am running kde how is this possible? is the file somewhere else located?
[12:23]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: in your home directory
[12:24]<rmzyrrg>what_if, /home/ is empty..
[12:24]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: are you logged in as root ?
[12:24]<rjjmy_>is there no jdk >= 1.5.x? in gentoo?
[12:25]<rmzyrrg>what_if, yes
[12:25]<qrwqq>goodi_: you can use the sun-jdk
[12:25]<wxrv_yp>then it will be in that users 'home' directory /root
[12:25]<rjjmy_>bawb2, with emerge or installing it by hand? I tried to install it by hand and use java-config - but it does not accept a 'path
[12:26]<qrwqq>emerging
[12:26]<rmzyrrg>what_if, well theres only 'Desktop' in it
[12:26]<kznrd>hi all
[12:26]<qrwqq>you will have to download the installer file from java.sun.com
[12:26]<rjjmy_>bawb2, I already put a 'dev-java/sun-jdk ~x86' in my package.keywords - but It still tries to install a 1.4.x version (
[12:27]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: hmmm.... that is ood
[12:27]<rjjmy_>bawb2, I got the 1.4.x running - but I need 1.5.x and even with unmasking it tries to install 1.4.x
[12:28]<kznrd>a really unlucky thing happened. I was rebuilding glibc during an emerge -e system and glibc had compiled and installed. Just as the system was regenerating /etc/ld.so.conf the power went and now I cannot boot (init complains of not being able to load libc.so.6 and neither can I chroot into the installation. does anyone have any idea what I should / can do ?
[12:28]<qrwqq>goodi_: gentoo-portage.com says its hard masked, you can add it to /etc/portage/package.unmask to emerge it
[12:28]<qrwqq>goodi_: you may want to see why it is hard masked before you do that
[12:28]<rjjmy_>bawb2, ah, oki - then Ill try to find out why its hard masked :)
[12:29]<rjjmy_>.-)
[12:29]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: ok, type "cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i using"
[12:30]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: the top line will tell you what the running server used for configuration
[12:30]<fjgg>cut
[12:30]<fjgg> qdfml
[12:30]<rrxjjv>what_if: just greppin the log is enough - no cat needed
[12:30]<rmzyrrg>what_if, using vt7
[12:31]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: ok, open a shell
[12:31]<rmzyrrg>what_if, ok
[12:31]<rjjmy_>btw. do I ever have to run emerge -e system again?:)
[12:31]<rmzyrrg>what_if, this might be also good to know: (WW) No FontPath specified. Using compiled-in default.
[12:33]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: if you look throughout that file there are lots of "warnings", they usually dont mean much
[12:33]<rmzyrrg>what_if, ok :)
[12:33]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: errors (EE) are the only ones you need to really worry about
[12:33]<rmzyrrg>what_if, ok
[12:34]<xjffjwsjuf>Kream, /etc/ld.so.conf = a text file with directory locations for librarys etc
[12:34]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: did it give your config file ??
[12:34]<rmzyrrg>what_if, m no
[12:35]<xjffjwsjuf>Kream, want to /join #hollowsoul & i give u an example of mine. should be able to edit the file manually with not much effort to get it to work in chroot & then type env-update
[12:35]<wxrv_yp>are you still booted under the live cd ?
[12:35]<z0ggd>hi
[12:35]<kznrd>hollowsoul: thanks
[12:35]<z0ggd>anyone ver got the folowing error : i915 DRI driver expected DDX version 1-1.5.x but got version 1.4.1 ?
[12:35]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: are you still running under the live CD ?
[12:36]<rmzyrrg>what_if, no i installed gentoo booted run kde and am now in kde on /dev/sda10
[12:37]<rmzyrrg>what_if, do you have Krfb
[12:37]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: well, you can always get out of the GUI and run "xorgconfig"
[12:37]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: yes
[12:38]<rmzyrrg>what_if, let me invite you then?
[12:38]<vnpnzy`>so does anyone else get annoyed that the majority of video porn is in wmv format?
[12:38]<vnpnzy`>i feel neglected.
[12:38]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: ok...
[12:38]<rmzyrrg>what_if, wait i have to open port 0 on my router
[12:40]<vzyppym_hugvnz>teferi`: vlc plays most wmvs fairly well
[12:40]<vnpnzy`>wait, in linux?
[12:40]<vzyppym_hugvnz>teferi`: if you're running in 32 bit mode and have win32codecs on anyway..
[12:40]<vnpnzy`>cause i definitely have win32codecs merged.
[12:40]<vzyppym_hugvnz>teferi`: i run gentoo linux exclusively ;)
[12:40]<rmzyrrg>what_if um how can i pm you in irssi
[12:41]<vnpnzy`>didnt even know there was a vlc for linux, i've been using mplayer.
[12:41]<vnpnzy`>man i owe you so much if this is successful.
[12:41]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: dont know, I use kvirc
[12:41]<vzyppym_hugvnz>teferi`: i have xine, mplayer and vlc installed. I find that when one won't play something, one of the others will.
[12:41]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: you can e-mail me the request to kf4yfd@juno.com
[12:41]<rmzyrrg>what_if, ok
[12:42]<gdffd>Hi folks. I'm trying to update my system, but emerge can't find rgb-1.0.1.tar.bz2 at any server, any ideas ?
[12:42]<vnpnzy`>lol whatever client Adriaan has it doesnt respond to ctcp/version. =[
[12:42]<vzyppym_hugvnz>Gilly: skip the package and check back later
[12:42]<xjffjwsjuf>Gilly, emerge --sync if u havent already. or try to google the filename & download it and save it in /usr/portage/distfiles
[12:42]<dnss>Gilly: Last time I couldn't find a package it was my dns server messed everything.
[12:42]<vzyppym_hugvnz>Gilly: sometimes it takes some time for things to get to the mirrors
[12:42]<gdffd>how do I skip it ?
[12:43]<vzyppym_hugvnz>Gilly: emerge --resume --skipfirst
[12:43]<gdffd>ah, thanks
[12:43]<gdffd>gah :) doesn't find font-util-1.0.1 either...
[12:43]<gzwdfwg>back again
[12:43]<fxugrvx>must not be in the mirrors yet
[12:43]<gzwdfwg>in the house
[12:43]<gzwdfwg>:P
[12:44]<gdffd>Ok, thanks anyways, I'll keep doing --skipfirst everytime it stops from now on and check back later as you suggested :)
[12:45]<rmzyrrg>what_if, send
[12:45]<fxugrvx>gilly: try adding http://gentoo.osuosl.org/distfiles/ to your mirrors
[12:45]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: :)
[12:45]<fjfunsnr>good morning wich channel for questions abous qmail?
[12:45]<fjfunsnr>about *
[12:46]<vnpnzy`>so i tried that World of Warcraft how-to in the gamers subforum. i was so impressed at how easy and quick it was to actually get it working that flawlessly.
[12:46]<wxrv_yp>Adriaan: I received your local IP address
[12:46]<vnpnzy`>in wine even.
[12:46]<myk[1]ee>hi all, if i want to have win and gentoo on one disk, can i have gentoo on the first partition?
[12:46]<rmzyrrg>what_if, note what i v written in the mail
[12:47]<vzyppym_hugvnz>MiK[3]Zz: i know gentoo doesn't care where its put.. i've no idea about windows though
[12:48]<myk[1]ee>Triffid_Hunter: that's what i meant, if i created gentoo partition at fisrt 8 partition on disk and then created win partition, windows install recognized it, but couldn't continue due to the MBR
[12:49]<[lyguw]>hello, how long does x-org take to install?
[12:49]<aygvwj>MiK[3]Zz, yes you can put gentoo on the first. I would recommend (not necessary though just a bit less painful :-) that you put windows on the first and gentoo after that
[12:49]<myk[1]ee>[Linux]: lol? try to describe your comp and then ask again
[12:49]<rmzyrrg>[linux], depends on your processor waht processor do you have?
[12:50]<[lyguw]>intel celeron
[12:50]<[lyguw]>2.8 ghz
[12:50]<wxrv_yp>[Linux]: it will take hours
[12:50]<[lyguw]>erf :/
