[20:11]<zzxzsvnz>+re-emerge it
[20:11]<rzrrc2r2d>+dystopianray, oh yeah? my big question is why mount says /dev/hdc is already mounted, but mount doesn't show it
[20:11]<zzxzsvnz>+works fine here, on amd64
[20:11]<nzvuznsxzmjw>-richiefrich: for the 5th time then?
[20:11]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+crackbaby: it shows no files at the mount point?
[20:11]<gymmrt7q>-hmm
[20:11]<nzvuznsxzmjw>-ok ill search the boards then
[20:11]<gymmrt7q>-some bad dependencies?
[20:11]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+crackbaby: does the volume actually have any files on it?
[20:12]<vxn-wns>-Hi everyone - Is there a util that will upload a directory tree via ftp, including creating new folders as needed?
[20:12]<zyaxynpzyax>+Natureshadow, i didnt know how many times u have
[20:12]<nzvuznsxzmjw>-richiefrich i know you didnt
[20:12]<asmprxaceee>-Sup richie :)
[20:12]<rzrrc2r2d>+dystopianray, mount (without args) shows no reference to /dev/hdc. yes it has files
[20:12]<nzvuznsxzmjw>-will come back later. cya all
[20:12]<zyaxynpzyax>+hay
[20:12]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+crackbaby: and if you try to mount manually it says it's already mounted? hrrm how odd
[20:12]<rzrrc2r2d>+dystopianray, exactly
[20:12]<[m]nzc>+Can I use march=pentium-m on a 2006.0 install as a flag in /etc/make.conf?
[20:13]<[ugcgjwg]>+ACTION yawn
[20:13]<gymmrt7q>-how do i format my MBR?
[20:13]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+crackbaby: does running mount show an device nodes that are symlinks to /dev/hdc ? like /dev/dvd /dev/cdrom,etc ?
[20:13]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+nimda562: you want to reinstall grub?
[20:14]<rzrrc2r2d>+dystopianray, nope.
[20:14]<zgdznwdza1>-dystopianray: After running that mount command:
[20:14]<zgdznwdza1>-Mount: /dev/sda1 alrady mounted or /boot busy
[20:14]<zgdznwdza1>-Mount: ACcording to mtab, /dev/sda1 is already mounted on boot
[20:14]<gymmrt7q>-dystopianray, no, just format the fucker... long story
[20:14]<gymmrt7q>-:)
[20:14]<rzrrc2r2d>+dystopianray, mount: /dev/hdc already mounted or /media/cdrecorder busy
[20:14]<vxnbnrsv>+Hi
[20:14]<rzrrc2r2d>+dystopianray, lsof|grep cdrecorder shows nothing, so I assume it isn't busy
[20:14]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+nimda562: what exactly do you want to put there?
[20:14]<qrrcjrrq>+ok I admit it i'm lost
[20:15]<rrrjlxjgd>-nimda562: language please
[20:15]<gymmrt7q>-grub later, but i need to format it now. any good tool for that?
[20:15]<gymmrt7q>-cacophony, sry, got carried away
[20:15]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+nimda562: what do you mean by 'format the mbr' exactly? you don't put a filesystem there
[20:15]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+nimda562: do you just want to overwrite it with zeroes ?
[20:16]<gymmrt7q>-i know what it is, but you can erase it..
[20:16]<gymmrt7q>-yes.
[20:16]<duzycs_>-hmm, If I have timidity started rosegarden is supposed to work uh?
[20:16]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+nimda562: you can use dd for that
[20:16]<qrrcjrrq>+Here's what I am trying to do. I have a server running gentoo, I have another machine that I want to build but it has no cdrom and no floppy. Should I be googling for pxe boot or diskless boot or network boot how tos?
[20:16]<vxnbnrsv>+I was doing an 'emerge --options --options --options --blah <target>' and at a certain point something failed compiling. Now, the thing is, I managed to get it fixed, and I did an 'emerge --resume' after that. the emerge process started as usual, from the package that failed compiling. now, my question is, did all those '--options --options --options --options' been passed again to portage?
[20:16]<xdfan>+dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/hda offset=512
[20:16]<gu2nn>-Hello, I have a few questions about prelink.
[20:16]<xdfan>+?
[20:16]<xdfan>+or something like that :x
[20:16]<zgdznwdza1>-benkong2: put in a cd ROM
[20:16]<zgdznwdza1>-lol
[20:16]<qrrcjrrq>+andrewmac3; I was trying to save money
[20:17]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+hylje: I don't think that's right :S
[20:17]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+hylje: that would wipe everything but the mbr..
[20:17]<xdfan>+yes thought about that
[20:17]<qrrcjrrq>+yea I started to do that but then I thought what a great opportunity to learn something new
[20:17]<xdfan>+but wasnt arsed enough to check the fn manual
[20:17]<zgdznwdza1>-benkong2: i see , but you can get one for 20 dollars, and it will save a lot of trouble, just a thought
[20:17]<zgdznwdza1>-benkong2: Fair enough, nevermind
[20:17]<duzycs_>-hmm, If I have timidity started rosegarden is supposed to work uh?
[20:17]<lnwus>-benkong2: try via network
[20:17]<qrrcjrrq>+Lexus; ok thanks
[20:18]<cmrr>+NeddySeagoon, i was chatting with jaromil one of the developers of freej and dynebolic, he tells me that the headers he uses are based on the LFS (linux from scratch) project, is there a way to get this headers to work under gentoo or as a temporary headers for compiling freej
[20:18]<cmrr>+http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-461840.html
[20:18]<azgsaggv>-Hello, I am attempting an installation of Gentoo, can somone assist me directly?
[20:18]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+nimda562: # dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/blah count=1 I think that will work
[20:18]<lnwus>-benkong2: in gentoo documentation is full article about that
[20:18]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+Crescent: read the handbook
[20:18]<zgdznwdza1>-How do i update the files in /etc??? It says 140 Config files in /etc need updating
[20:18]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+andrewmac3: dispatch-conf
[20:18]<lnwus>-Cdrom you can get for about 10$ :)
[20:19]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+andrewmac3: it should tell you to use etc-update, or you can use dispatch-conf
[20:19]<qrrcjrrq>+Lexus; ok searching....
[20:19]<zgdznwdza1>-Triffid_Hunter: Thanks
[20:19]<zgdznwdza1>-hmm, which one?
[20:19]<zgdznwdza1>-lol
[20:19]<qrrcjrrq>+ACTION searching ^u^
[20:19]<azgsaggv>-The manual will not do me much good until I find the correct .iso
[20:19]<asvpyfjv>-dystopianray: for the lid thing, I just closed it and opened it up again and the screen didnt come on
[20:20]<azgsaggv>-Will anyone assist me directly?
[20:20]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+cstPilot: is /etc/acpi/actions/lid.sh executable?
[20:20]<duzycs_>-hmmm
[20:20]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+cstPilot: test vbetool manually first to make sure it actually works
[20:20]<asvpyfjv>-dystopianray: yes
[20:20]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+cstPilot: and you have to maek sure that acpid is actually running
[20:20]<duzycs_>-ok, HELP!!!!!!!!!one!!!!
[20:20]<gu2nn>-Actually, I need to back up a bit. I re-emerged python-2.4.3-r1 because equery check says it has incorrect checksums. Python still works though. But even after a fresh re-emerge I get the same errors from equery. 1891 out of 2867 files good. $ equery list dev-lang/python
[20:20]<gu2nn>-[ Searching for package 'python' in 'dev-lang' among: ]
[20:20]<gu2nn>- * installed packages
[20:20]<gu2nn>-[I--] [ ~] dev-lang/python-2.4.3-r1 (2.4)
[20:20]<duzycs_>-hm, timidity isn't wanting to start
[20:20]<ggmmdsgrrjjg>+kdag, its a while since I looked at LFS, but I recall it uses vanallia kernels. I don't know what version it uses.
[20:20]<gymmrt7q>-its wired, seems its giving me trouble... im doing a partition layout for a friend, where he has gentoo and windows, +3 empty other ext3 drives for later installation of others distros.. when all comes end, there are a totalt of 8 partitions on the 40 gig disk. BUT when trying to install windows fo him, it halts after the reboot windows installtion does. it cant find the operating system so that it can continue. any known problem
[20:20]<gymmrt7q>-with lots of partitions?
[20:21]<mszzzm>+its posible to install the system using only a little one prebuilt packages and then do everything on the net?
[20:21]<asvpyfjv>-dystopianray: will reboot and see about acpid
[20:21]<duzycs_>-I arleady started it, nothing happened, and I can't restart because it can't stop (couldn't kill process: no such process)
[20:21]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+ysgard: you only need the stage file, then the rest can be done just with internet access
[20:21]<zgdznwdza1>-dystopianray: IT asked me to type -3 or -5. SO i typed -3. And now its asking me if i want to overwrite stuff. Should i just keep saying Yes?
[20:21]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+andrewmac3: what ?
