[20:21]<cmrr>+NeddySeagoon, how crazy it will be to get linux-headers from the LFS project to (co)exist in my gentoo box, anyplace i can read on how to do it?
[20:22]<zgdznwdza1>-dystopianray: When running etc-update
[20:22]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+andrewmac3: if you keep saying yes, you'll hose your systems entire configuration
[20:22]<azgsaggv>-One last petition: Is there anyone willing to assist me directly to install Gentoo?
[20:22]<lnwus>-Cescent: I can help you
[20:22]<zgdznwdza1>-Triffid_Hunter: Thanks, ill cancel it and run the dispatch-conf then
[20:22]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+andrewmac3: you should only update files you haven't changed. dispatch-conf has an option to do that for you in its config, and its also faster to use
[20:22]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+nimda562: one of those partitions will be extended, windows shouldn't have any trouble i don't think, although ive not used it in a long time
[20:22]<azgsaggv>-Thank you lexus, is there a quiet room we can go to?
[20:22]<cmrr>+Crescent, you should stop asking that and ask the question
[20:23]<cmrr>+ops thats sound very personal
[20:23]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+Crescent: if you have an issue just ask the question
[20:23]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+Crescent: everyone here can help if you just ask whatever questions you have
[20:23]<gymmrt7q>-dystopianray, there are 2 primary, the first is a NTFS, the 2. i extended. in the extended partition are all the ext3 (logical) partitions
[20:23]<azgsaggv>-Very well
[20:23]<zgdznwdza1>-Triffid_Hunter: I dont know what i have changed
[20:23]<ggmmdsgrrjjg>+kdag, you should put the LFS kernel into /usr/src and configure it, then edit the freej file to use the headers there. Every kernel provides a full set of headers for itself
[20:23]<lnwus>-Crescent: /j #nic
[20:24]<azgsaggv>-I went to the gentoo site and downloaded the X86 minimum install (because I did not find an x86 universal)
[20:24]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+nimda562: well I can't imagine windows having troublew ith that configuration, are you using grub to boot windows?
[20:24]<mszzzm>+so, if i wan't use the prebuilt for gnome for example, its ok i do emerge --sync after that and install the rest with the net?
[20:24]<mszzzm>+thanks
[20:24]<zgdznwdza1>-Triffid_Hunter: It just says i needed to update 140 files in /etc
[20:24]<cmrr>+NeddySeagoon, tx :)
[20:24]<asvpyfjv>-dystopianray: should acpid be listed in ps aux?
[20:24]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+cstPilot: yes, it's a daemon
[20:24]<azgsaggv>-The instructions for the install on the gentoo site tel lme I need a stage?
[20:24]<asvpyfjv>-well it isnt :D
[20:25]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+Crescent: yes, jsut follow the instructions it'll tell you where to get it and how to extract it to your hdd
[20:25]<azgsaggv>-How can I acquire such a stage from inside the gentoo livecd
[20:25]<mrsrvysvr>+i've asked this many times, but... which package provides the user information module to kcontrol?
[20:25]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+cstPilot: and there is nothing in the logs concerning acpid?
[20:25]<gymmrt7q>-i tryed that to. but the "main" problem is, that windows cant boot itself! :P ... im installing windows first, to save trouble. ..and windows should install its own bootloader, but its bootloader cant boot windows. Im in the installation part where you have to reboot about half ways throught the installation
[20:25]<asvpyfjv>-dystopianray: ok It seems started now
[20:25]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+andrewmac3: yeah.. most packages come with default configurations, but portage isn't stupid enough to overwrite configuration files during routine updates. dispatch-conf allows you to see the old file and the new one, and choose how to proceed
[20:25]<gymmrt7q>-too*
[20:25]<lnwus>-Crescent: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/index.xml
[20:26]<axyffy>-hey can I have gstreamer 10 and 8 installed at the same time? can i get away with just 8?
[20:26]<lnwus>-this is very good documentation
[20:26]<asvpyfjv>-dystopianray: [kacpid] is listed and /etc/init.d./acpid status says its started, but my screen doesnt come on after shutting the lid (must I press a button)
[20:26]<rzrrc2r2d>+anyone know why hal won't mount CDs (USB - iPod works fine)
[20:26]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+cstPilot: that is something else entirely
[20:26]<vxn-wns>-Hi everyone - Is there a util that will upload a directory tree via ftp, including creating new folders as needed?
[20:26]<lnwus>-so read this
[20:26]<azgsaggv>-Im sure it is, and I have been using that very documentation, however it is telling me to go to the cd for the stage, this cd image does not contain the directory they specify
[20:26]<asvpyfjv>-dystopianray: ?
[20:27]<lnwus>-oh, you must download that
[20:27]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+cstPilot: you must have made a mistake with the acpid configuration
[20:27]<lnwus>-cd contains only popular stages
[20:27]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+cstPilot: it should have something in the logs telling you why it's not starting
[20:27]<azgsaggv>-How do I download the stage from within the live cd, lexus?
[20:27]<zgdznwdza1>-Triffid_Hunter: My main problem was that i couldnt emerge ati-drivers, because DRM Module or something
[20:27]<azgsaggv>-(unfortunaely this cd has no stages that i could find)
[20:28]<rzrrc2r2d>+I have hal, udev, dbus, but the CDs don't get mounted anywhere. maually mounting says that the drive is already mounted though
[20:28]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+Crescent: you'l have to download a stage file
[20:28]<lnwus>-go to one of mirrors, download stage and portage tree which you want and burn it on CD
[20:28]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+Crescent: why are you asking questions which are all clearly answered in the install guide?
[20:28]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+crackbaby: they dont' automount, they just provide userspace mounting
[20:28]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+crackbaby: you need ivman iirc
[20:28]<zgdznwdza1>-Triffid_Hunter: so i changed the kernal making drm modular, and tried to mount it but it says its already mounted
[20:28]<zgdznwdza1>-or /boot is busy
[20:28]<asvpyfjv>-dystopianray: I just rebooted and ran /etc/init.d/acpid status and it says it's started
[20:28]<azgsaggv>-I cannot eject the cd tray because i am running the live cd
[20:28]<lnwus>-after that run live cd and copy your files to hdd
[20:28]<pznmmd>-hello 2all
[20:28]<rzrrc2r2d>+dystopianray, this is the first I've heard of it. anything required besides emerging it?
[20:29]<lnwus>-Crescent: I can ... :)
[20:29]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+Crescent: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=5#doc_chap2 <-- right there it tells you how to get your tarball from the 'net
[20:29]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+crackbaby: configuring it?
[20:29]<azgsaggv>-believe me lexus, I would like to very much...
[20:29]<lnwus>-so, burn live cd in session
[20:29]<pznmmd>-how can I compile knetworkmanager from sources? I have no Makefile.cvs nor autogen.sh, heeeelp !
[20:29]<rzrrc2r2d>+dystopianray, right. ok
[20:29]<azgsaggv>-Thank you Triffid
[20:29]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+crackbaby: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_ivman
[20:29]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+freddy: emerge -av knetworkmanager ?
[20:29]<azgsaggv>-this box has basic dvd only
[20:30]<kyddjkd>+Do someone know that does Unreal Tournament 2004: Editor's Choice Edition contain Linux-binary?
[20:30]<lnwus>-and you can have on one cd your stage, portage and everything what live cd contain
[20:30]<syzlznys>+does someone know if i can make kde apps to use the same font settings as Gnome?
[20:30]<syzlznys>+can i do that with kcontrol (even when kde is not installed)?
[20:30]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+sirpreis: gtk-qt-engine, or something?
[20:30]<[m]nzc>+How do you set up the mirrors to use without mirrorselect (I'm installing gentoo while using a knoppix live CD)?
[20:30]<lnwus>-Crescent: go to #nic and I would help you
[20:30]<pznmmd>-anyone can heeeeelp me ?
[20:30]<asvpyfjv>-dystopianray ?
[20:30]<sfdlldz9>+hi, i wanted to do "ln -s /dev/nst0 /dev/tape" , but have it come back after boot. how can i do that?
[20:30]<zzad>+hi ppl. Doom3 ebuild installs to /opt/doom3. Is there a way to change that?
[20:30]<azgsaggv>-ok lexus
[20:31]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+cstPilot: hold on i'll tar.gz my /etc/acpid directory so you can compare
[20:31]<asvpyfjv>-ok
[20:31]<vzyppym_hugvnz>+arcy: that's where binary installs go. if its a problem, symlink the dir to another partition which is big enough
[20:32]<zzad>+Triffid_Hunter, yeah, i can do that. I just don't like having symlinks all over the place....
[20:32]<pznmmd>-how can I compile knetworkmanager?
[20:33]<zsc>-freddy: emerge -va knetworkmanager
[20:33]<rzrrc2r2d>+dystopianray, how come I can't manually mount the drive though. I should be able to fall back to that
[20:33]<xdfan>+where are usb mass storage devices listed
[20:33]<syzlznys>+dystopianray: whats that
[20:34]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+sirpreis: pardon?
[20:34]<mdsvjldzgzzd>+crackbaby: I don't know, that's very odd :S
