[22:39]<xdfan>+hmm, what do i do to mount a cd-rom
[22:40]<2zfmuzc>+does anyone know how to get analog sticks to work with epsxe? either on a joypad or just via keyboard
[22:40]<qrrcjrrq>+can grub boot a livecd that is located on another machine?
[22:41]<-- dyzyvzf00 xzs fuy>http://www.digital00.com <-- NEW!")
[22:41]<adjurrww>+FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.16-gentoo-r6/modules.dep: No such file or directory : how do I get the modules installed to this location? I don't know why they aren't there in the first plac3e
[22:42]<adjurrww>+after running modprobe ntfs
[22:42]<drrrrdn9>+is there a GUI 2006 installer torrent?
[22:42]<mrvrs>+benkong2: I do not think so but what would it be good for?
[22:43]<ez2zmjz>-metas: ok im kinda new to linux still so i might need further instruction, ill do my best to do it on my own tho
[22:43]<tdrg>+can I get a ballpark for how long OOo takes to compile?
[22:44]<qrwqq>+7 hours?
[22:44]<rxrgrnqw0t>+jyoungxx: Sounds to me as if you didn't issues "make modules_install" when you compiled your kernel. But just to check: cd /lib/modules/, then uname -r .. then ls -l. Check to see if there's a directory that's named the same as the uname -r output.
[22:44]<mrvrs>+7 hours? I envy your machine
[22:45]<qrwqq>+thats what ive heard, prolly quicker with -java
[22:45]<qrwqq>+but why?
[22:45]<adjurrww>+no there isn't
[22:45]<rxrgrnqw0t>+It takes me 4 hours using a single sparc processor .. surely people with fast amd64 boxen do better
[22:45]<adjurrww>+would that happen if I had menuconfig going in another console page?
[22:45]<qrwqq>+ACTION loves risc
[22:46]<rxrgrnqw0t>+jyoungxx: Ok. Well, to get on the same page here ..you've finished installing gentoo, compiled a kernel, and are trying to read some ntfs media/partition for the first time?
[22:47]<xdfan>+how users mount CD-rom -- it doesnt let me even when user is in cdrom group
[22:47]<rxrgrnqw0t>+jyoungxx: .. and you've rebooted successfully into your gentoo install?
[22:47]<adjurrww>+yes I have had gentoo up for a while
[22:47]<adjurrww>+yes I haven't used ntfs yet
[22:47]<rxrgrnqw0t>+jyoungxx: Ok. When you compiled your kernel, and copied the kernel image and all that jazz .. you forgot to issue "make modules_install".
[22:47]<adjurrww>+yes rebooted succesfully
[22:47]<mrvrs>+hylje: mounting CD-roms does not depend on you being in the group
[22:47]<zjznztt>+hylje, make an entry for it in /etc/fstab
[22:48]<mrvrs>+you need to add the option to fstab
[22:48]<adjurrww>+i'm pretty sure I did though I tried it again hold on
[22:48]<zjznztt>+hylje, like: /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro,users 0 0
[22:48]<rxrgrnqw0t>+jyoungxx: I would go back to your kernel source .. do make menuconfig .. check your options. Then make clean, and recompile your kernel. Copy your kernel image as needed, and then be sure to issue "make modules_install" at the end of that process before rebooting. That will give you the ntfs module you're looking forl
[22:48]<adjurrww>+ok it is there niow
[22:48]<adjurrww>+now
[22:49]<adjurrww>+ok thx
[22:49]<rxrgrnqw0t>+jyoungxx: You probably are "working" now, but I recommend that to make sure no issues crop up in the future.
[22:49]<adjurrww>+ok
[22:50]<drssygn>+hi everyone
[22:51]<ez2zmjz>-metas: how would i go about chrooting into my system?
[22:52]<mrvrs>+zabador: follow the guide http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=6
[22:53]<dnvy>+im trying to set up a raid following this guide: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=8813, but mkraid fails, "cannot determine md version: no MD device file in /dev" - the guide says i should "modprobe md" though, but theres no such module
[22:53]<mrvrs>+zabador: you of course need to mount your disks
[22:53]<mrvrs>+first
[22:53]<ry2j>+yeti, modules_update then modprobe ...
[22:53]<adjurrww>+I'm getting a permission denied after mounting ntfs
[22:54]<ry2j>+yeti, don't forget, for 2.4 kernel u need defsd and for 2.6 - udev
[22:54]<adjurrww>+I mounted with mount -t ntfs /dev/sda3 /mnt/tmp -o ro
[22:54]<ry2j>+and?
[22:54]<dnvy>+aibo: im using the 2.6 livecd
[22:54]<ry2j>+you mounted it ReadOnly
[22:54]<txnznzfzjzzj>-does anyone have it where the latest ebuild of wxWidgets doesnt work right
[22:54]<ry2j>+yeti, minimal installcd/
[22:54]<rxrgrnqw0t>+jyoungxx: NTFS partitions mount by default so that only root can view them. (looks for a link to how to fix it)
[22:54]<mrvrs>+jyoungxx: can you read the partition as root?
[22:54]<ry2j>+yeti, ?
[22:54]<txnznzfzjzzj>-I go to compile a program and it still uses the older one
[22:54]<dnvy>+aibo: ah yeah, the installcd, yes
[22:55]<dnvy>+aibo: don't tell me the install cd lacks the md module :/
[22:55]<mrvrs>+jyoungxx: this is what I do in fstab: /dev/hda1 /mnt/c ntfs user,uid=MYUID,gid=MYGID 0 0
[22:55]<adjurrww>+ok it works in root
[22:55]<ry2j>+yeti, I dunno, really, never had raid-setup experience
[22:55]<adjurrww>+ok
[22:55]<adjurrww>+thx
[22:56]<dnvy>+aibo: ok thx
[22:56]<txnznzfzjzzj>-err
[22:56]<txnznzfzjzzj>-nvm
[22:56]<ez2zmjz>-metas: im just gunna say bugger it and reinstall, there were a few things i wanted to change neways
[22:56]<dnvy>+so anyone else knows why i can't modprobe md, in order to create a raid, with the 2006.0 install cd?
[22:56]<mrvrs>+zabador: ok, good luck then
[22:58]<wnfl>+any rack server experts around?
[22:58]<znmfnzznz>-anybody know if you can install or set up a gentoo installation by copying the files over from another linux install?
[22:58]<znmfnzznz>-the 2006.0 boot cd can't detect my hard drives
[22:59]<ry2j>+redlegger, what dmesg tells ?
[22:59]<ry2j>+redlegger, u need just extract stage 3 and install kernel, etc, not so much work
[22:59]<znmfnzznz>-i did
[22:59]<znmfnzznz>-i can't do it with 2006.0 though, and then i get this error when i try to chroot
[23:00]<znmfnzznz>-let me find where i wrote the bloody thing down
[23:00]<ry2j>+ok
[23:00]<znmfnzznz>-k, i tried using the 2005.1 cd, since that detected everything no problem, and then i just downloaded the snapshot/portage i needed, when i got to the chroot, i just go "Exec format error"
[23:00]<myllggvzjl>+redlegger: do other liveCDs work?
[23:01]<mrvrs>+redlegger: try to use another live CD, maybe you get more luck with Knoppix
[23:01]<znmfnzznz>-it didn't like something about /sbin/bash, or /sbin/sh
[23:01]<myllggvzjl>+redlegger: KNOPPIX or Ubuntu or something like that?
[23:01]<znmfnzznz>-i tried a helix one, but i think it didn't like x64, as it was an x32 livecd
[23:01]<myllggvzjl>+'cause gentoo can be installed from pretty much anything with disk and net..
[23:02]<znmfnzznz>-well, i got the drive i want it on partitoned and put reiserfs on it, i was wondering if i could copy the files over from my fedora core 5 install, and then point grub at it, boot in and finish the install
[23:02]<znmfnzznz>-gentoo files, not fedora files i mean
[23:02]<ry2j>+redlegger, u just need SOME livecd to fetch stage3 and then choot for installing kernel and some other things like udev, etc..
[23:03]<znmfnzznz>-i'd be happy to try the 2006.0 cd again if i could figure out why it kept thinking i had no media to put the kernel on
[23:04]<mrvrs>+redlegger: so you can install from 2005.0 but can't chroot, right? defective HD maybe?
[23:04]<znmfnzznz>-i tried going with the 2005.1 cd with docache, and then switching cds to the 2006
[23:04]<zncsnzs>+how much space in /var does openoffice take for compilation?
[23:04]<znmfnzznz>-but then i couldn't nmount it
[23:04]<znmfnzznz>-i'm using that HD right now
[23:04]<znmfnzznz>-that's the thing, i tried it on 3 different hard drives, an IBM, Samsung and a maxtor
[23:04]<rxrgrnqw0t>+redlegger: There was a period of time .. I had a computer whose IDE chipset refused to work with the Gentoo livecd's. So I just burnt Knoppix, and installed that way.
[23:04]<myllggvzjl>+redhook: why would you try to "switch CDs"?
[23:05]<rxrgrnqw0t>+redlegger: Might be a workable option for you here.
[23:05]<myllggvzjl>+redlegger: why would you try to "switch CDs"?
[23:05]<rssjryrvnx>+Hello people
