[08:25]<mygmhrac>yeah, but the newsletter I linked was april 1st 2003
[08:25]<rrsxdjgnd>ahh
[08:25]<vmz>ok, i can stop planning to google for a new distro
[08:25]<mygmhrac>It got me when I read it 3 years ago
[08:26]<mu2m>I just upgraded to kde 3.5. Now I want to do a emerge --prune to unmerge kde 3.4, but this tries to unmerge another 11 apps that I do need. What can I do?
[08:26]<mygmhrac>thats the way I felt too! I hate rpm
[08:26]<mu2m>Don't want to do it one by one
[08:29]<zzzzgjg>sweet, worked. i got my cdrom mounted, and altered the fstab
[08:30]<2-_-m>an you have xorg composite and glx at the same time?
[08:30]<mygmhrac>hehe, you just joined the channel and already mid-conversation ;)
[08:32]<drxnr>hey guys, i just tried to emerge -uD world, and i get the new perl-cleaner digest verification failed. whats going on?
[08:32]<drxnr>Reason: Filesize does not match recorded size
[08:33]<sazy2n|a>hi!
[08:34]<2r2rly>u0
[08:34]<gysgg>Just out of interest, what is the the least tedious way to migrate to the new portage use flag policy? Toggling all the flags manually is quite a bit of work.
[08:35]<gxajg>howdeh.
[08:35]<gxajg>How can I pass the --enable-threads options through to the mysqltcl ./configure when installing from ebuild ?
[08:35]<pzfzzys>hello~~~
[08:35]<fjw>hello
[08:35]<pzfzzys>nvidia error~~~
[08:36]<pzfzzys>my lsmod
[08:36]<gxajg>lol~~~
[08:36]<rpvnzdnrvx> eXcon: you mean ebuild or emerge?
[08:36]<pzfzzys>nvidia 3916316 0
[08:36]<pzfzzys>nfsd 93416 13
[08:36]<pzfzzys>exportfs 5504 1 nfsd
[08:36]<pzfzzys>lockd 55688 2 nfsd
[08:36]<pzfzzys>nfs_acl 3968 1 nfsd
[08:36]<pzfzzys>sunrpc 130236 10 nfsd,lockd,nfs_acl
[08:36]<gxajg>AfterDeath, yep
[08:36]<gxajg>AfterDeath, I need to --enable-threads... omg.
[08:36]<pzfzzys>sorry T.T
[08:36]<rpvnzdnrvx>you might me able to do it from a USE variable
[08:37]<pzfzzys>my linux' box is nvidia module open
[08:37]<rpvnzdnrvx>USE=$USE+" pthreads"
[08:37]<pzfzzys>but startx error ...T.T
[08:38]<pzfzzys>riva tnt2 xrog-7 and not bad?
[08:40]<va2w1>hey guys, i have this php script that requires me to enable file_get_contents() and says i need to enable it in the server config
[08:40]<va2w1>but where do i do that
[08:40]<va2w1>this is for php btw
[08:40]<svuup>php.ini?
[08:40]<txdspfrd>Hi, is thr any1 here that can help?
[08:40]<va2w1>stuuf oh cool, thanks
[08:40]<txdspfrd>I want to convert to Gentoo but I don't know how to get a proper installation cd.
[08:40]<srmvxnbfrmnw>cahoot, ever used it to do FLAC --> mp3?
[08:41]<va2w1>where is php.ini
[08:41]<fjw>ThisPlay, what CPU architecture do you have?
[08:41]<svuup>tjb13: /etc/php/apache2-php[45]/
[08:41]<va2w1>thanks!
[08:41]<txdspfrd>I have x86 P4 HT 2.8Ghz
[08:41]<mygmhrac>ThisPlay, go to gentoo.org, and find the link on the left that says gentoo handbook
[08:42]<fjw>mzbot, ThisPlay handbook
[08:42]<fjw>poo
[08:42]<txdspfrd>I already had that handbook and it didn't serve me so well...
[08:42]<svuup>? handbook
[08:42]<annvns>http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/index.xml
[08:42]<txdspfrd>The problem is that the x86 does not have a Universal CD.
[08:42]<svuup>use the minimal
[08:42]<txdspfrd>But the minimal does not have GUI at all.
[08:43]<fjw>ThisPlay, use the minimal if you've got a wired net connection
[08:43]<ajn_usnz>ThisPlay: http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/where.xml
[08:43]<fjw>ThisPlay, the GUI was not meant for people who have never installed Gentoo before
[08:43]<txdspfrd>I don't know my way out without GUI.
[08:43]<va2w1>stuuf: unfortunately, there is no where to enable file_get_contents
[08:43]<fjw>ThisPlay, do you have experience with any Unix-like system?
[08:44]<svuup>tjb13: http://www.php.net/file_get_contents maybe?
[08:44]<txdspfrd>The shortest experience you can ever find.
[08:44]<fjw>ThisPlay, in that case, I'd suggest you try a more new user friendly distro
[08:44]<fjw>ThisPlay, for example Ubuntu or Fedora Core
[08:44]<svjgnpysx>What the lol?
[08:44]<svjgnpysx>Don't do that to him.
[08:45]<vxjdrsd|2usd>ubuntu is great for first timers
[08:45]<fjw>Stonefish, ?
[08:45]<svjgnpysx>ThisPlay: Do you have the ability to read and think for yourself?
[08:45]<drxnr>Hey, anyone know how to fix this? perl-cleaner digest verification failed. Filesize does not match recorded siz
[08:45]<svuup>but gentoo is *so* much more fun
[08:45]<txdspfrd>I had Fedora Core (III for that time), and I had SuSe 9.2 and Mandrake 10
[08:45]<rpvnzdnrvx>FC3 is an excellent start
[08:45]<va2w1>stuuf yeah i duno
[08:45]<va2w1>thanks
[08:45]<rpvnzdnrvx>and a miserable, pathetic end :-D
[08:45]<gysgg>mchea: just delete the file from distfiles
[08:46]<drxnr>eisen: erm...like...unmerge the original? and delete from "world" ?
[08:46]<svjgnpysx>ThisPlay: As long as you're capable of reading and thinking, you'll get by just fine with Gentoo, and won't pick up any nasty habits from Fedora
[08:46]<txdspfrd>Anyway, I could use the minimal installation CD but in that manner, I'd have to configure my internet connection.
[08:46]<fjw>Stonefish, Gentoo is a good distro, and the installation is fairly friendly to new Linux users, however it's not the friendliest; taking someone used to Windows and the GUI and giving them a text install isn't exactly the best
[08:46]<jrvrvyjus>mchea: i'd suggest doing an emerge --sync again, if that doesn't fix it, check which file(s) is failing the check
[08:46]<zzzzgjg>so to install KDE i would log in and emerge --usepkg kde?
[08:47]<fjw>Stonefish, and Gentoo is great for a more hands on experience, but that's not for everyone
[08:47]<drxnr>octavious: ok, ill try that
[08:47]<txdspfrd>Ok. I think I confused you a bit.
[08:47]<svjgnpysx>Sure, but if you don't want hands on, then you don't want Linux :)
[08:47]<txdspfrd>I'm not a rookie when it comes to computers and development.
[08:47]<fjw>Stonefish, that sounds kind of elitist to me
[08:47]<vxjdrsd|2usd>thats not true stone fish.
[08:47]<rmrv>Is there some terrible bug with the unflagged lirc in portage? It compiles but won't load with the latest kernel. (I'm trying the flagged 0.8.0 now)
[08:47]<rpvnzdnrvx>ne1 know how I can rotate my X display by 90 degrees CCW
[08:47]<txdspfrd>It's just that I'm not used to Linux.
[08:47]<vxjdrsd|2usd>why can't linux be as easy as other operating systems?
[08:47]<svjgnpysx>We're not elitist in here? Did I miss a memo? :)
