[11:34]<zfa>so when i do "route"
[11:34]<zzyacfns>xjvf is for .bz2, xzvf is for .gz
[11:34]<zfa>what is it supposed to say in the gateway field on the last line?
[11:34]<zyaxynpzyax>http://bugs.gentoo.org <-- is it being updated ?
[11:34]<tfkdfn>ok, probably not what I was thinking of then :D
[11:35]<dvns>TFKyle: here's ppracer (same error) http://pastebin.com/744351
[11:35]<zfa>isn't it supposed to say the configured gateway address (192.168.0.1) and interface eth0?
[11:35]<zzyacfns>rlj: not necessarily.
[11:35]<tfkdfn>(if you're using file-roller theres an option you have to make sure an option is checked to extract dirs)
[11:35]<zfa>cause it says eth0 but it says localhost on the gateway column
[11:35]<zzyacfns>rlj: in my case it's a server on my provider's network.
[11:35]<zzzzgjg>ok. i got dhcp working, now it is saying netmount isnt loaded
[11:35]<dvns>TFKyle: you don't have my error because opencv starts compiling in your box
[11:35]<tfkdfn>yves: looks like whatever you're using to extract them is breaking the file heiarchy
[11:36]<zzyacfns>rlj: what your gateway is, depends heavily on the network topology and your lan and other geeky stuff
[11:36]<dvns>TFKyle: no : I can "cd src" right after :(
[11:36]<zfa>but i have static gateway configuration
[11:37]<tfkdfn>yves: er, odd
[11:37]<zfa>the gateway, from thie computer's point of view, should always be the "internet gateway" box in the office, that is 192.168.0.1
[11:37]<zzyacfns>arranon: are you using nfs or something like that?
[11:37]<zfa>thus, i have "routes_eth0=("default gw 192.168.0.1")" in my conf.d/net
[11:37]<zzzzgjg>nfs?
[11:37]<zzyacfns>rlj: good enough for me.
[11:37]<tfkdfn>yves: could you pastebin the ppracer Makefile?
[11:37]<zzyacfns>network file system
[11:37]<zzzzgjg>oh, no shouldnt be
[11:38]<zfa>however
[11:38]<zfa>adding the new ns to resolv.conf seemed to speed up nslookup a bit now
[11:38]<zfa>(adding the .3 server first)
[11:38]<dvns>TFKyle: here it is : http://pastebin.com/744354
[11:39]<zzzzgjg>and when i /etc/init.d/netmount start it gives me the same error
[11:39]<zfa>a plain "route" is a lot faster too
[11:40]<zfa>maybe it was just something weird with the isp's dns server then
[11:40]<tfkdfn>yves: hmm, don't think I see anything strange there
[11:40]<zfa>still makes no sense as to why the win98 boxes seem to do alright..
[11:40]<zzyacfns>arranon: did you get any "no such device" error messages?
[11:40]<zfa>thanks alot anyways guys
[11:40]<zfa>btw
[11:40]<zzyacfns>rlj, good luck
[11:40]<zfa>when i change resolv.conf, is it instantaneous?
[11:40]<zzzzgjg>yup
[11:40]<zfa>or do i need to restart all networks?
[11:40]<wnfl>omp, can you check to see if i'm on the gentoo forums memberlist?
[11:40]<wnfl>erm...
[11:40]<zzzzgjg>grickles: yes a ton of them
[11:41]<jdl>welp: okay
[11:41]<zzyacfns>arranon: do an 'ifconfig'
[11:41]<zzyacfns>tell me about eth0
[11:41]<znzjz>rlj: Nope, changes take effect immediately.
[11:41]<jdl>welp: do you live in ipswich?
[11:41]<dvns>the CD command is called in a wrong dir ?
[11:42]<zfa>what about the nsswitch file?
[11:42]<zzzzgjg>grickles: eth0 is the prob. ifconfig just gives me loopback
[11:42]<zzyacfns>arranon: try 'lspci' and see if your ethernet stuff is listed
[11:42]<zfa>are the settings there only for finding local hosts on the lan or does that affect browsing too?
[11:42]<vrdr00>whats a front end for gnu chess?
[11:42]<zfa>i had it configured on the files line to include mdns, but removed it cause i thought that might have been causing the problems
[11:43]<nuzncr>i'm trying to play an rmvb file in xine, it's complaining about the codec drvx.so.6.0, what is going on?
[11:43]<dvns>TFKyle: thank you for checking
[11:43]<dvns>I hope I won't switch distro, cause I need to compile :'(
[11:44]<kjzvxzug>rlj:that will effect "internet hosts" as well. as far as browsing etc, that depends on the browser
[11:44]<vrdr00>whats a front end for gnu chess??
[11:44]<zzyacfns>tama00: it's been so long i don't remember what i used
[11:44]<zzzzgjg>grickles: when i lspci there are too many things listed, i cannot see them all
[11:44]<dj>hey, i got a single .ebuild file here. i moved it to /root/tmp and tried to install trough ebuild package.ebuild fetch ... is this the correct way?
[11:44]<zzyacfns>arranon: lspci | less
[11:45]<sjqnzs_q00q>Hi all
[11:45]<zfa>thank you all
[11:45]<zzyacfns>rlj: luck
[11:45]<dvns>bye everybody !
[11:46]<zzyacfns>good luck, yves
[11:46]<dvns>HTG
[11:46]<dvns>thnk you, I will need luck :)
[11:46]<zzzzgjg>grickles: the only referance to my net card is bridge: nvidia corp ck8s ethernet controller
[11:47]<dj>or how do i handel single .ebuild files which arent in the portage tree?
[11:47]<zzyacfns>arranon: odd. should be a controller in there. like mine: 00:04.0 Ethernet controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 Ethernet Controller (rev a1)
[11:48]<vrdr00>say hell to xboard and yahoo chess:D:D
[11:48]<zzyacfns>arranon: quicky check, try lspci | grep thern
[11:48]<rggvjj>hey guys, i left my box on while installing gentoo stage 3 tarball, and emergine mail-mta/ssmtp failed, what should I do now?
[11:48]<zzyacfns>gentoo: figure out why it failed. look for compile error messages preceding the portage failure mesassgw
[11:49]<zzyacfns>mesassgw = message
[11:49]<rggvjj>grickles: GLI: May 29 2006 14:26:38 - ERROR! : Could not deactivate swap (/dev/hda3)!
[11:49]<vrdr00>gentoo, change your nick name firstly..
[11:49]<zzyacfns>gentoo: i have NO idea what would want to deactivate swap in any ebuild. dig a little deeper?
[11:49]<zzzzgjg>grickles: just bridge: nvidia corp ck8s ethernet controller
[11:50]<zzzzgjg>at 00:05.0
[11:50]<zzyacfns>arranon: very odd. maybe your kernel doesn't have the right driver, or it's in a module that isn't loaded.
[11:50]<zzyacfns>arranon: ls /lib/modules/2.6.9-gentoo-r12/kernel/net/
[11:50]<svzzc>grickles: GLIException("EmergePackageError", "fatal", "emerge", "Could not emerge " + pkg + "!")
[11:51]<svzzc>while emergine mail-mta/ssmtp
[11:51]<kjzvxzug>"Re-caching dependency info (mtimes differ)", I recompiled mysql and this started happening on start and shutdown. Any ideas?
[11:51]<zzyacfns>stark: that doesn't even look remotely familiar, sorry
[11:51]<svzzc>grickles: ok then, what should I do then since my build has stopped emerging?
[11:52]<zzyacfns>stark: you can skip over that one for a while by doing "emerge --resume --skipfirst"
[11:52]<zzyacfns>but it will stop at the next error and you'll have to fix one or the second
[11:53]<svzzc>grickles: yes, but like I said im installing stage 3 tarball, im on a livecd, i can't do emerge -resume --skipfirst
[11:53]<gynfvan>how do I quickly find out which packages are responsible for wanting qt4?
[11:54]<zzyacfns>stark: I have a feeling the real error message precedes any of the error messages starting with "GLI:"
[11:54]<zzzzgjg>grickles: ls /lib/modules/2.6.9-gentoo-r12/kernel/net/ returns 8021g bluetooth ipv4 ipv6 sched sctp sunrpc and xfrm
[11:54]<llz>after changing to gcc-4.1.1
