[13:52]<2frrarrn>tmh`: if there isn't one already, of course
[13:52]<ldrgj2jd1111>blackace: http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/where.xml there, I only see the choice x86 under the live cd, or the minimal install
[13:53]<dac79>blackace: Yes, but the TFTP server costs virtually no room and time to install, as well as a small netboot image. Gentoo should give everyone the choice(!) of netbooting it from a weak/old/small machine. (the target machine must meet the Gentoo requirements, of course)
[13:53]<2frrarrn>pianoboy3333: I see quite a lot under minimal, and yes, the livecd is only for x86 right now, it's experimental for amd64
[13:54]<dac79>blackace: target machine = machine where I want to install Gentoo
[13:54]<2frrarrn>mjk64: you can file an enhancement request bug if you want, but you know you could've built a kernel by now right? ;P
[13:54]<ldrgj2jd1111>blackace: so use the minimal install CD to but it on my sistem?
[13:55]<ldrgj2jd1111>s/sistem/system/
[13:55]<2frrarrn>pianoboy3333: read the handbook, it will help you choose which cd to use.
[13:55]<ldrgj2jd1111>ok
[13:55]<dn_xnzn>wich package provides libgcj.so.5 or how can i search for a package that provides it ?
[13:55]<ydxjvnl>how do I add a package to the world profile again? now, I can't remember
[13:55]<2frrarrn>me_here: grep -r 'libgcj.so.5' /var/db/pkg/
[13:55]<2frrarrn>imhotep: emerge it
[13:56]<dac79>blackace: ;-) Absolutely no space here ... but: Yes, I would file an enhancement request bug, if you happen to have a bug report e-mail address or a BTS URL or something. Otherwise, I'm willing to search for that information, but not longer than 5 minutes. =)
[13:56]<dn_xnzn>blackace: thank you very much sir :)
[13:56]<2frrarrn>mjk64: bugs.gentoo.org
[13:56]<ydxjvnl>some of the e libraries don't get added automatically?
[13:56]<dac79>blackace: Thanks!
[13:57]<2frrarrn>imhotep: dependencies are not added to the world file no, only things you actually emerge are added to the world file...that is the proper behavior.
[13:57]<vdx`>blackace: where I can verify that?
[13:57]<2frrarrn>tmh`: bugs.gentoo.org
[13:58]<vdx`>okay, checking it...
[13:58]<ydxjvnl>blackace: right, but I did a -depclean and I see something in there I don't want it removed, so how do I stop it from doing that?
[13:59]<rggjgg>imhotep: emerge --noreplace $pkg
[13:59]<ydxjvnl>genone: thank you, that's it
[14:02]<svzzc>hey guys, if i use the minimal install, is that just like the livecd but I have to download stage3 from the internet?
[14:02]<xdfan>yes
[14:03]<jjxgzj2nzv>how can I 'reset' configuration files to their package defaults for a certain package like apache2?
[14:03]<svzzc>hylje: so what advantage does it have over livecd, except the fact its a smaller download?
[14:04]<xdfan>smaller
[14:04]<2frrarrn>JohnRobert: re-emerge apache then choose to replace the configs when you run etc-update or dispatch-conf
[14:04]<2frrarrn>stark: the minimal doesn't have the installer.
[14:04]<xdfan>and always up to date
[14:04]<svzzc>blackace: the gui installer you mean?
[14:04]<jjxgzj2nzv>blackace, isn't there an easier (faster) way? :p
[14:05]<2frrarrn>stark: the installer period, it has GUI, CLI, and unattended frontends...the minimal is for the manual installation method.
[14:05]<2frrarrn>JohnRobert: nope.
[14:05]<2frrarrn>JohnRobert: and that's pretty easy :)
[14:05]<czsvnz>tell me what to emerge to get single command that will play wav/mp3/ogg through alsa
[14:05]<2jgsrycyvvgg>Caster, mplayer or amaroK
[14:06]<2frrarrn>JohnRobert: if you have to do it a lot you might consider building a binpkg of apache
[14:06]<jjxgzj2nzv>blackace, just this once
[14:06]<svzzc>blackace: what if one of my packages fail while doing the stage 3 tarball install?
[14:06]<jjxgzj2nzv>[ebuild R ] net-www/apache-2.0.55-r1 +apache2* -debug -doc +ldap -mpm-leader -mpm-peruser -mpm-prefork -mpm-threadpool -mpm-worker -no-suexec (-selinux) +ssl -static-modules -threads 0 kB << any recommendations for better use flags for apache2?
[14:06]<czsvnz>bonsaikitten: something small commandline, to use for KDE system notifications
[14:06]<2jgsrycyvvgg>Caster, mplayer
[14:06]<2frrarrn>stark: what is failing?
[14:07]<ydxjvnl>how can I tell what a package provides before emerging it? For example gentoolkit provides equery, but is there a way to determine that?
[14:07]<czsvnz>mplayer still looks like overkill :)
[14:07]<2frrarrn>imhotep: nope
[14:07]<2frrarrn>Caster: feel free to browse packages.gentoo.org
[14:07]<svzzc>blackace: well i had the livecd installing stage 3 tarball from the internet, and then as it was installing, the emerge failed on mail-mta/ssmtp
[14:07]<rggjgg>imhotep: not ywr
[14:07]<rggjgg>imhotep: not yet
[14:08]<svzzc>blackace: do i need a stage 3 tarball mirror when doing the manual install? anything else?
[14:08]<ydxjvnl>genone: ok, thanx
[14:08]<2jgsrycyvvgg>Caster, mpg123 can only play mp3 etc... mplayer is just a nice tool to play everything
[14:08]<2frrarrn>stark: you need to read the handbook.
[14:09]<czsvnz>bonsaikitten: I just hope it wont impose startup delay or something then
[14:09]<svzzc>blackace: what about my other ques
[14:09]<2frrarrn>stark: and as for your problem with the installer, see bug 125699
[14:09]<annvns>blackace: http://bugs.gentoo.org/125699 nor, P2, x86, jshprentz@his.com->gli-bugs@gentoo.org, RESOLVED, LATER, =mail-mta/ssmtp' is not a valid package atom
[14:09]<svzzc>oh ok
[14:09]<vdx`>blackace: can't find that error, I'll post that
[14:09]<2jgsrycyvvgg>Caster, you may wish to transform all into a singlr format so you can use a small program
[14:10]<vdx`>blackace: from this time when I post a bug when I'll get answer?
[14:10]<2frrarrn>tmh`: there's no set time period...we're all volunteers.
[14:11]<svzzc>anyone have a link to stage 3 tarball?
[14:12]<2frrarrn>stark: handbook, read it, it tells you how to find one.
[14:12]<dac79>stark: ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo/releases/x86/2006.0/stages/stage3-x86-2006.0.tar.bz2 (German mirror)
[14:13]<2frrarrn>and you should really use an i686 tarball if you can
[14:13]<dac79>stark: ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo/releases/x86/2006.0/stages/stage3-i686-2006.0.tar.bz2
[14:13]<lwy>hi all! can anyone help me with a pcmcia problem?
[14:14]<2frrarrn>LWi: don't ask to ask.
[14:14]<rxrjsyvn>LWi: just tell us what the problem is
[14:15]<lwy>ok :-) . i installed gentoo by the handbook with all pcmcia sruff build into kernel and it doesn't work
[14:15]<rxrjsyvn>define "doesn't work"
[14:15]<rxrjsyvn>any error messages?
[14:16]<lwy>Starting pcmcia...
[14:16]<lwy>cardmgr[3130]: cannot access /lib/modules/2.6.16.-gentoo-r8: No such file or directory
[14:16]<czsvnz>bonsaikitten: seems KDE wont play anything anyway with external command :\
[14:16]<lwy>cardmgr[3130]: no socket found
[14:16]<2jgsrycyvvgg>Caster, no? weird, I thought that is configurable
[14:17]<czsvnz>configurable yes, but working not
[14:17]<rggjgg>heh, something you can't configure in KDE? ;)
[14:17]<2jgsrycyvvgg>LWi, you forgot make modules_install I guess
[14:17]<2jgsrycyvvgg>genone, they are adapting to gnome users ;-)
[14:17]<lwy>but i have all stuff build in.
[14:17]<jjvluv>hi guys, in firefox, is there a quick way (keybind?) to disable image-loading in a session?
[14:19]<nfsxrr>hi
[14:20]<aejpp>is there any easy way to remove "packages" from /var/tmp/portage that isn't insalled?
[14:20]<lwy>or do you think it only works with modules?
[14:20]<aejpp>ie. has an older version than the one installed
[14:20]<svzzc>blackace: honestly i can't find the list of mirrors for the stage tarballs?
[14:21]<rggjgg>Azoff: you can generally remove everything under /var/tmp/portage/
[14:21]<aejpp>genone: hmm... isn't it the database of installed packages there?
[14:21]<aejpp>or where is it?
[14:21]<rggjgg>Azoff: nope, that's /var/db/pkg
[14:21]<aejpp>ahh
