[15:40]<caayza>that would be backwards
[15:40]<gywgg>yeah i wlays mess up
[15:40]<gywgg>you get my idea :)
[15:40]<gywgg>thanks
[15:41]<caayza>nixen: look into sudo
[15:42]<gywgg>kojiro: (sudo) it's the way i go to "config" but sometime i just whant to "report"
[15:42]<zzsvzz>nixen, listen to kojiro and use sudo
[15:43]<zzsvzz>kojiro, moutain is so high and I am only in my shorts so ... :D
[15:44]<caayza>is it safe to delete ~/.macromedia ?
[15:44]<caayza>should be, right?
[15:44]<svjgnpysx>safe? It's recommended :)
[15:44]<zzsvzz>sure why not ?
[15:44]<zzsvzz>its only local dir for user
[15:49]<rumjpp>hey men, i need know about the number after # in "uname -a" command
[15:50]<dzzcot6q>A quick question, I just installed gentoo ( fresh install) what's first to be done, installing xorg, or I can just right away emerge gnome? Whats the right way to do it ?
[15:50]<caayza>mark8572: x first
[15:50]<caayza>mzbot: gentoo mark8572 xorg configuration
[15:50]<de2jv>mark8572: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml
[15:50]<caayza>mzbot: gentoo mark8572 gnome configuration
[15:50]<de2jv>mark8572: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gnome-config.xml
[15:50]<dzzcot6q>thank you
[15:52]<rumjpp>mzbot: do you know about the number after # in "uname -a"
[15:56]<zzyvs>anyone else getting a Digest Varification error w/ Perl-Cleaner?
[15:56]<caayza>Rudolf: all I can tell you is that it's the first part of the kernel version
[15:56]<caayza>but you probably already knew that
[15:56]<caayza>grits: I emerged it yesterday and didn't get a digest error
[15:57]<rr2r>grits: Yep. Got it at my home box. Removing perl-cleaner package from /usr/portage/distfiles/ and re-emerging perl-cleaner helped.
[15:58]<zzyvs>kojiro/jaba thank i'll give it a shot
[15:58]<rumjpp>kojiro: but this number refer to ID kernel or number that the kernel has compiled?
[15:59]<vjlqqq>Rudolf: It is the version first
[16:00]<vjlqqq>Rudolf: Then the date on which the kernel was compiled
[16:00]<vjlqqq>Rudolf: And finally some information on the system it is running on
[16:00]<vjlqqq>That is, architecture
[16:01]<vjlqqq>After the version, before the date, those parts like PREEMPT refer to how the kernel was configured
[16:04]<znv666>sorry folks, newbie Question... I am tring to move a bunch of stuff from one directory to another, recursivly, I can't use cp -r as there isn't enough room
[16:05]<znv666>and mv -r dosen't work
[16:05]<luyaycl>mv -iv /source /dest
[16:05]<znv666>ty
[16:05]<kydy_r>in an attempt to clean up /usr/src i went throuhg and delted kernels that were not being or going to be used
[16:06]<kydy_r>i accidently deleted the kernel that i'm on
[16:06]<svjgnpysx>the kernel, or the source thereof?
[16:06]<kydy_r>i re-merged the kernel and replaced the sym link, but lost Sytem.map in the process
[16:07]<luyaycl>I dont think System.map is important, except for debugging, which it doesn't sound like you want to do
[16:07]<kydy_r>now i'm having troubles all over the place. is it because of the loss of the original system.map and if so, will recompiling a new kernel resolve the probs?
[16:07]<kydy_r>puijikp: hmm
[16:08]<svjgnpysx>Recompiling is always fun. See what happens :)
[16:08]<-- lyzzv xzs puyv (">php.net")
[16:08]<kydy_r>puijikp: Stonefish: i'm just trying to figure out why all the sudden i'm having trouble running apps that were fine before, and not being able to emerge those sam apps
[16:08]<svjgnpysx>You ONLY deleted stuff from /usr/src ?
[16:09]<kydy_r>and i can't get through a revdep-rebuild
[16:09]<kydy_r>Stonefish: yeah, only from /usr/src
[16:10]<kydy_r>Stonefish: and i had a bback-p of the config for my current kernel. so i did re-compile the kernel to replace the System.map
[16:10]<luyaycl>Kimi_R: you dont really need System.map, I've never installed/needed/used it, for over 6 years
[16:10]<kydy_r>Stonefish: although from what puijikp just said, that shouldn't have been the cause anyway
[16:10]<tfkdfn>Kimi_R: what applications are you having problems with, and what errors do you get?
[16:10]<kydy_r>:)
[16:10]<vzzrjfzr>is there away to rid of kde*-3.4?
[16:10]<vzzrjfzr>since kde3.5 is now in portage?
[16:11]<lrlvjljd>what's the simplest way of making emerge use a different distfile than it thinks it should, if I just drop my (patched) one in then it complains about it being the wrong size
[16:11]<kydy_r>TFKyle: same as yersterday, thunderbird, mozilla so far
[16:11]<dzza_zfna>Varcolac: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/kde-config.xml#doc_chap4
[16:11]<kydy_r>TFKyle: no need to chacke your irc logs
[16:11]<kydy_r>:)
[16:12]<idanjj2-_->I get an error on boot
[16:12]<idanjj2-_->when it's setting up the network
[16:12]<ese>and the error is?
[16:12]<idanjj2-_->"ERROR: Problem starting needed services." ...
[16:13]<kydy_r>TFKyle: they all seem to be libexpat prbs. but i can't get through a revdep
[16:13]<idanjj2-_->""netmount" was not started"
[16:13]<tfkdfn>Kimi_R: what package is it that breaks the revdep-rebuild?
[16:13]<ese>ImANoob-_-, can't you start it manually?
[16:13]<idanjj2-_->how?
[16:13]<tfkdfn>Kimi_R: if its just one package and the reason for it breaking isn't libexpat, maybe just emerge --resume --skipfirst
[16:13]<idanjj2-_->I'm a noob
[16:14]<idanjj2-_->lol
[16:14]<luyaycl>LaptopOm: ebuild foobar-1.3-r3.ebuild digest
[16:14]<kydy_r>TFKyle: right now... it's k3b. before that it was conky. etc
[16:14]<ese>ImANoob-_-, /etc/init.d/netmount start
[16:14]<cryjwrs>any honeyd users around?
[16:14]<kydy_r>TFKyle: there are a bunch of Broken ... reports from revdep
[16:15]<tfkdfn>Kimi_R: ones that aren't related to libexpat?
[16:15]<kydy_r>TFKyle: let me look back up through and see
[16:15]<idanjj2-_->zsz: same message
[16:15]<svzzc>hey guys should i put MAKEOPTS="-j2" in my make.conf file?
[16:16]<tfkdfn>Kimi_R: running it with --library=libexpat.so.0 should only rebuild things that dep on libexpat, and yeah unless you use --as-needed it makes sense that a lot of stuff links against expat (its a very popular xml parsing lib)
[16:16]<idanjj2-_->starting up eth0.... blah blah ERROR...
[16:16]<lrlvjljd>thanks puijikp
[16:16]<kydy_r>TFKyle: yeah k3b is in the list
[16:16]<vuwyac>blah blah errors are the worst
[16:16]<idanjj2-_->yes
[16:16]<idanjj2-_->I hate them
[16:16]<kydy_r>TFKyle: ok, i'll run fevdep again w/thst arg
[16:16]<ese>ImANoob-_-, you might want to paste the full error message to a pastebin
[16:17]<vdx`>blackace: I see that bug wasn't reported. I can't it report bcouse of that I don't account on bugs.gentoo.org, and I'm only on console without browser and X
[16:17]<zzyvs>kojiro and jaba the file size of perl-cleaner-1.03.tar.gz on the GaTech mirror is 4954
[16:18]<tfkdfn>hmm
[16:18]<vdx`>blackace: and lynx don't wonna works with my mail
[16:18]<ese>ImANoob-_-, http://rafb.net/paste/
[16:18]<idanjj2-_->I already am
[16:18]<dyrdrr>Any of you guys using KDE experience the "access keys" getting activated in konqueror 3.5.2 without interaction on your side?
