[23:26]<azcd>:p
[23:26]<fyeevslrwg>Triffid_Hunter: <<Kiwi
[23:26]<fjwc1d>pretty sure I used the installer off the live cd
[23:26]<_aws_>Arky, yes it will -- a lot of drivers are made only for xorg7 now
[23:26]<fyeevslrwg>we in same season :\
[23:26]<azcd>_AxS_ k, lets test it out
[23:26]<vzyppym_hugvnz>Firztspawn: it'd be a shade cooler down there though i suspect
[23:26]<_aws_>Arky, ...not sure if that includes the latest ati ones or not...
[23:26]<zjznztt>lowk3y, ok first fix your filesystem, then emerge some kernel sources
[23:26]<wucrvu>uhm... there should be some tool to tell you how much a certain package took building last time
[23:27]<_aws_>Arky, but a bit of googling in the gentoo forums should tell you
[23:27]<azcd>_AxS_ need latest one ... I have an X1900...
[23:27]<zjznztt>xukatu, genlop -t
[23:27]<_aws_>Arky, going to xorg7 is not a small process, just so you know..
[23:27]<awnsjdn-jq000>Arky, wow
[23:27]<fyeevslrwg>Triffid_Hunter: just a touch lol, though its sunny here today, but when the wind is westerly I think it is, the cold blows off the mountains
[23:27]<awnsjdn-jq000>100 bucks on ebay
[23:27]<vzyppym_hugvnz>xukatu: genlop
[23:27]<wucrvu>uh,... I'm checkign now
[23:27]<awnsjdn-jq000>I got a 6800gs 512agp and I dont need it no mo
[23:28]<wucrvu>Triffid_Hunter: roger55: does emerge warn you next time, telling you "this will take 2 hours! is that ok to continue?" :P
[23:28]<wucrvu>emerging now genlop...
[23:28]<vzyppym_hugvnz>xukatu: nope, but you can emerge -pv whatever | genlop -p and it'll guesstimate how long it'll take
[23:28]<azcd>Awesome-o2000 , if i cant get it run on linux i'm nothing wih that card :(
[23:29]<wucrvu>Triffid_Hunter: nice, thanks
[23:29]<zjznztt>xukatu, not by default, no. but you can make an alias that will check if you took a shower yet too...
[23:29]<vzyppym_hugvnz>Awesome-o2000: if you were in aus i'd prolly buy it off ya
[23:29]<wucrvu>roger55: nice idea. I think I'll write a nice script... =)
[23:29]<awnsjdn-jq000>arkanoid, thats why I went to nvidia - but it sure was hell on wheels in windows for gaming. It handled everything I could throw at it with everything cranked all the way up
[23:30]<fjwc1d>A really dumb question on fsck. The system im working on has no periferi with the exception of the network cable I have plugged in to it. Can I set fsck to run at reboot? ( since checking a mounted filesystem can thrash it. )
[23:30]<zjznztt>lowk3y, touch /forcefsck
[23:30]<zjznztt>lowk3y, then reboot and it will check
[23:31]<byjhzezzm_>Crap, my network is messed up.
[23:31]<wucrvu>amazing to see how much gcc build times vary
[23:31]<wucrvu>from around 30 mins to over 1 hour
[23:31]<byjhzezzm_>The default gateway isin't working.
[23:32]<_aws_>Arky, well apparently 8.25.18 supports your card (what ati says anyhow).. so if you can install that for 6.8.2 you should be good. it also says it supports xorg 7 so maybe it's worth upgrading anyhow
[23:32]<fjwc1d>touch: cannot touch `/forcefsck': Read-only file system
[23:32]<vzyppym_hugvnz>lowk3y: tried mount -o remount,rw / ?
[23:32]<_aws_>Arky, ...well maybe not.
[23:33]<_aws_>Arky, ati still says the driver might not work beyond a stock 6.8.2 Xorg
[23:34]<axzjg>how can i make a boot script run before or after others
[23:34]<fjwc1d>Triffid: No I had not tried that, but it sys that I must specify the fs type
[23:34]<ygpyzyv>lowk3y, us your root (/) mounted rw?
[23:34]<awnsjdn-jq000>the ati driver from ati worked pretty well on ubuntu
[23:34]<awnsjdn-jq000>I get really nice performance out of it
[23:34]<_aws_>chron, change its dependecies to 'need' stuff it needs and such..
[23:35]<axzjg>i do
[23:35]<_aws_>chron, stuff at boot can start in parallel now so you don't usually want to enfore a specific ordering
[23:35]<axzjg>depend() { need net }
[23:35]<axzjg>it will never start after the net
[23:35]<axzjg>it will start before
[23:35]<vxjdrsd>k guys, i'm trying to comile support for my realtek ALC850 audio. Its onboard 7.1
[23:35]<vxjdrsd>what kernel module do I need?
[23:35]<_aws_>chron, change it to need net.eth0
[23:35]<awnsjdn-jq000>lol
[23:35]<_aws_>chron, net.lo starts way before net.eth0 does
[23:35]<sgvx_pfggg>hello is there somebody experienced in Xorg(Xgl) and can tell me how manage -accel parametr ??
[23:36]<axzjg>oh
[23:36]<fjwc1d>Infirit: Yeah, /dev/hda3 on / type ext3 (rw)
[23:36]<vxjdrsd>"XGL questions: #gentoo-xgl"
[23:36]<awnsjdn-jq000>Seth_Plzen, getting 3d acceleration in xgl but not in your apps?
[23:36]<axzjg>does after * work?
[23:38]<vzyppym_hugvnz>Awesome-o2000: i think it means his video chunks in fullscreen mode
[23:38]<vxjdrsd>anybody know which kernel module will load realtekALC850 audio?? i compiled the kernel before, but there was no sound device.
[23:38]<awnsjdn-jq000>Seth_Plzen, I dont think dri works for apps yet, just for the desktop
[23:39]<crr1>I noticed that when I use optimisations "pentium-m and O3" to install gentoo on my Dell C400 Laptop it screws up. However, my laptop is a pentium-3-m. I managed to get gentoo working using the "-march=pentium3 -O2". Would anyone know some 'perfect' flags to use on the C400?
[23:39]<_aws_>mzbot, wiki kga3 safe cflags
[23:39]<de2jv>kga3: http://gentoo-wiki.com/Safe_Cflags
[23:41]<awnsjdn-jq000>whats the big whoop about modular xorg?
[23:41]<rjpmpysx>Awesome-o2000: MODULES!
[23:41]<bfracgxjsv>nothign really, i hate it :D
[23:41]<pnvn-j>Awesome-o2000: Xorg is no longer one package
[23:41]<rjpmpysx>Awesome-o2000: What's the big whoop about a modular kernel?
[23:41]<pnvn-j>it's several houndreds
[23:42]<nyrxvsxrmjw>hey
[23:42]<awnsjdn-jq000>goldfish, ahh - I didnt realize thats what it meant
[23:42]<czsvnz>it makes your package.keywords 100 times larger!
[23:50]<2zzydd>There are a ton of dist files in portage I will never use, is it safe to delete them or all to slim down the size on disk?
[23:50]<zjznztt>sero, if you give me an url I can try.
[23:50]<awnsjdn-jq000>BlackGhost, wait until I can reskin things into female body parts
[23:50]<swummnzvzyw>sero: "amaroK now supports various new XML playlist formats, like XSPF and SMIL"
[23:50]<snzj>roger55: The file format is RA (real audio).
[23:50]<swummnzvzyw>sero: from the 1.4beta3 release notes
[23:50]<snzj>roger55: OK tnx - I mom pls
[23:50]<bfracgxjsv>obviously
[23:50]<zjznztt>sero, I doubt it.
[23:50]<fdnfmd>mom?
[23:51]<swummnzvzyw>sero: if it's realaudio, it probably won't work in amarok without some tinkering, i believe
[23:51]<zjznztt>ent
[23:51]<vzyppym_hugvnz>bgrimm: you can delete everything in /usr/portage/distfiles and /var/tmp/portage if you need disk space, but emerge will have to re-download anything it needs when next you update
[23:51]<awnsjdn-jq000>I figure thats little wiggle the windows give when moved, stretched, etc would come in handy with that
[23:51]<kydy_r>ok as i hhave trying to follow the talk about X7. is the general consensus that DRI does or does not work
[23:51]<zjznztt>Kimi_R, works for me.
[23:51]<vzyppym_hugvnz>bgrimm: removing other things from /usr/portage/ is fairly futile, as they'll simply be replaced next time you sync
[23:51]<caayza>Klohunt: if you're having problems with a kernel config option not letting you set it as [*], it's because the parent is set as [M]
[23:51]<kydy_r>roger55: good enough fer me
[23:51]<pnvn-j>Okay solved it, for users who cant use XDM with modular xorg do the following, emerge xdm xsession sessreg
[23:56]<swummnzvzyw>Seth_Plzen: that's a negative
[23:56]<awnsjdn-jq000>Apage43, check your bios settings, most likely you have a timing out of whack somewhere...
