[06:19]<fysxyy>it's definelty neither of 'em...
[06:19]<mzzvxlupp>blackace: =\
[06:19]<2frrarrn>Doomhammer: bah, that was a little teeny tiny one :)
[06:20]<mzzvxlupp>ok
[06:20]<djjdxzddnz>blackace: lol
[06:20]<xrds>darthpuff: probably no
[06:20]<mzzvxlupp>is it possible to copy my entire root directory over to another partition
[06:20]<mzzvxlupp>to make way for windows?
[06:20]<mzzvxlupp>and then copy it to another partition that is extended
[06:20]<mzzvxlupp>and boot linux from that?
[06:20]<2frrarrn>darthpuff: sure, just keep a livecd handy to re-install grub after windows wipes it out.
[06:20]<mzzvxlupp>blackace: =\
[06:20]<lzzcnz`>blackace, Kaphecs: if my memory test comes out clean, what should I do? I could try to reburn the CD, but I strongly doubt that's the problem since I've booted this CD about 5 times already
[06:20]<mzzvxlupp>but i can copy linux over to another partition? and it wont kill it?
[06:20]<xrds>darthpuff: I think you may be conflating some things but I may just not understand your question
[06:21]<prjem2jv_vre>darthpuff: maybe it works to install windows on a primary partition and then copy it over... but i dunno, haven't tried it yet :)
[06:21]<jjxgsgzgyacfg>Just to get this strait having the framebuffer work will just make my text smaller in the console, right? being as I have no X
[06:21]<fysxyy>blackace
[06:21]<fysxyy>i'm such an idiot
[06:21]<prjem2jv_vre>darthpuff: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314458 ;)
[06:21]<2frrarrn>darthpuff: the copying linux part is easy, either make the same size partition and dd it over, or make a partition, make a filesystem, mount it, and cp -a
[06:21]<fysxyy>i changed permissions, emerged it again, but watched the wrong terminal (where i still got the old error msg).
[06:21]<xrds>darthpuff: do what blackace said and then you edit your /etc/fstab file to point to the new partition
[06:21]<fysxyy>its working now *g*
[06:22]<xrds>cp -a or cpio i think some people use
[06:22]<2frrarrn>johahatl: smaller and thus fit more of it, yes, as well as allow for graphical splash themes, and the use of links2 -g in framebuffer, X in framebuffer, etc.
[06:22]<mzzvxlupp>blackace: cp -a will copy it all over =)
[06:22]<2frrarrn>darthpuff: ...and?
[06:22]<mzzvxlupp>blackace: i was just repeating to confirm
[06:22]<jjxgsgzgyacfg>OK so how should I start diagnosing this problem?
[06:23]<2frrarrn>darthpuff: yes, you can see if there are any other flags you want to use by reading 'man cp'
[06:23]<xrds>cp -a / /path/to/new/drive
[06:23]<fysxyy>but blackace: i have antother question. how can i add my user to the portage group? gpasswd didn't work....
[06:23]<2frrarrn>Fishii: gpasswd -a user group
[06:23]<xrds>cp -avp is what I use and I think the p is redundant
[06:23]<2frrarrn>Fishii: you need to be root.
[06:23]<fysxyy>i did as root
[06:23]<myrryxrv0>whats up people
[06:23]<2frrarrn>Fishii: and you put the args in the correct order like that?
[06:23]<2ggfrcg>Obfuscate: when I look at screen caps, I often see some system monitor app watching disk/cpu/mem usage in a graphical form. What might that be called?
[06:23]<jjxgsgzgyacfg>If i have no X xan I still view websites and stuff or maybe watch movies? I dont want to, I am just wondering If X is needed for all that
[06:23]<mzzvxlupp>hays: thanks
[06:24]<fysxyy>gpasswd -a sevi portage
[06:24]<fysxyy>sould be correct?
[06:24]<2frrarrn>Fishii: yep
[06:24]<prjem2jv_vre>benlake: gkrellm2
[06:24]<prjem2jv_vre>benlake: is one of them :)
[06:24]<2frrarrn>Johnsernickle: web browsing using links, and movies using mplayer are possible, yes.
[06:24]<xrds>darthpuff: and then edit /parth/to/place/etc/fstab and lilo/grub to the new partition
[06:24]<2ggfrcg>fnordbot_tgz: cool, I'll take a look
[06:25]<myrryxrv0>can some one help me with a problem im having
[06:25]<fdnfmd>i installed some fonts. lots of them. none of them show up in openoffice, not a single additional one. what am I missing?
[06:25]<2frrarrn>diggihav0: don't ask to ask.
[06:25]<myrryxrv0>< new to gentoo
[06:25]<djjdxzddnz>blackace: just tried that command and it's saying that i used the wrong emerge usage
[06:25]<2frrarrn>Fieldy: mkfontdir?
[06:25]<fysxyy>blackace, have a look at this: http://rafb.net/paste/results/r1Gmj919.html
[06:25]<fdnfmd>blackace: standalone command?
[06:26]<o2pusrrvn>benlake: If it's embedded on the desktop it's probably karamba
[06:26]<jjxgsgzgyacfg>How can i check to see if i compiled framebuffer support in my kernel?
[06:26]<2frrarrn>Doomhammer: show me or pastebin the output of: echo "$(find /var/db/pkg/ -mindepth 3 -maxdepth 3 -type f -name "CONTENTS" -exec grep -l '^obj[[:space:]]/lib/modules/' {} \; | sed -e 's/^.*\/\([^\/]\+\/[^\/]\+\)\/CONTENTS$/=\1/' | sort -u)"
[06:26]<myrryxrv0>well i've got external 200gig hardrive i want to be able to use with windows and linux just as a storage drive music... what would the best way to go about that/
[06:26]<2frrarrn>Fieldy: ehm, is it a standalone command? yes
[06:26]<lzzcnz`>diggihav0: FAT32
[06:26]<ygvnzajjf>diggihav0: fat32
[06:26]<wwbmastwrw0w>Yo. I'm trying to install Linux on an older computer, but it does not see the cdrom at boot. Does any one know of a floppy image that will just load that and then boot to the cdrom?
[06:26]<fdnfmd>blackace: looks like it takes some args, enough to confuse me. are you aware if it's run at boot up at some point?
[06:26]<djjdxzddnz>blackace: it echoes nothing
[06:26]<2ggfrcg>Obfuscate: it's gkrellm I've been seeing, but that does remind me to look at karamba :) thanks
[06:27]<myrryxrv0>intercool: but i want to be able to rip some movies(that i own on that drive) which are over 4 gig's
[06:27]<2frrarrn>Doomhammer: ah, well then no package installed has installed kernel modules.
[06:27]<djjdxzddnz>blackace: aaahhhh right
[06:27]<tfkdfn>blackace: why not use equery for that? (sounds like something equery could do)
[06:27]<ygvnzajjf>diggihav0: then ntfs might work, but its not the most stable solution.
[06:27]<prjem2jv_vre>W3BMAST3R101: for gentoo, try: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=8690 or http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=27951
[06:28]<xrds>portage is weird sometimes.. openssl needed to merge before nvidia-glx and nvidia-kernel
[06:28]<prjem2jv_vre>W3BMAST3R101: but maybe this will help you in general....
[06:28]<[sa]pjjcd>What's the system moniter/RSS feed reader on the right side of this screenshot? http://gentoo-wiki.com/images/e/e1/Xfce_g0ph3r%27s_desktop.png
[06:28]<2j2wxjjls>How do I get shockwave for firefox? I thought I just emerged netscape-flash and it would detect it
[06:28]<mzzrgv>anyone know what's going on with udept?
[06:28]<2frrarrn>Fieldy: it should be enough to simply run it on the directory you put the fonts in and add that directory to your FontPath's in xorg.conf
[06:28]<fdnfmd>dgrant: can you be more specific?
[06:28]<wwbmastwrw0w>fnordbot_tgz: thanks a lot dude
[06:28]<xrds>bobwhoops: I think there is a USE flag or package for it like netscape-flash or something
[06:28]<djjdxzddnz>bobwhoops: afaik there isn't a shockwave player for linux
[06:28]<fdnfmd>blackace: not sure where they went, used portage. i'll mess with it later
[06:29]<prjem2jv_vre>W3BMAST3R101: but maybe u should change your nick ;)
[06:29]<myrryxrv0>intercool: how to to mount under linux i know it is located at /dev/sda but do i need to fdisk to what type to be the correct
[06:29]<mzzrgv>Fieldy: none of the sources seem to be available
[06:29]<2frrarrn>TFKyle: I don't use equery, and I don't think equery even has a way to do that or help to do it.
[06:29]<tfkdfn>[SA]Pooky: maybe adesklets, gdesklets or superkaromba(sp?)
[06:29]<de2jv>TFKyle: superkaromba: superscribe, supremo, supremal, supremo's, Sparkman
[06:29]<fqrffq>hey guys does anyone know if mythtv works with Conexant CX23880/1/2/3 PCI Video and Audio Decoder
[06:29]<o2pusrrvn>benlake: conky and gkrellm are the more tolerable of the monitors, imo
[06:29]<fdnfmd>dgrant: try GENTOO_MIRRORS= emerge whatever , if it still can't get the sources, please file a bug
[06:29]<fqrffq>i checked in mythtv-users but nobody is there
[06:29]<fdnfmd>the space after = is important
[06:30]<[r]>qball2: if the kernel supports it under video4linux, then it does
[06:30]<ygvnzajjf>diggihav0: if its one partition, and formated with ntfs, just mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 should work.. If you have loaded ntfs module or buildt in ntfs support in kernel..
[06:30]<2ggfrcg>Obfuscate: ooo, conky looks nice
