[18:32]<azaxjg___>Draconx|Work: I'm not going to reboot the LiveCD.. just kill the shell I was chroot'd into...
[18:32]<syddnee>how can i block outgoing port 3306 but make sure that it is available locally?
[18:32]<dzzajgw|wjzc>Archon___, oh then you'll be fine
[18:32]<azaxjg___>LiveCD still has the same, unchanged LVM2 configuration.
[18:33]<azaxjg___>Draconx|Work: But you're saying if I reboot the LiveCD, I'll have to run those two commands and it'll pick up the drives?
[18:33]<dzzajgw|wjzc>Archon___, yes
[18:33]<azaxjg___>Draconx|Work: Good to know.
[18:34]<caayza>Archon___: by the way, if emerge -e world makes you nervous you can do emerge -e system && emerge -e world. There's some redundancy there, but it's more likely to get to the toolchain packages first.
[18:34]<caayza>Archon___: in my case, I've only ever done emerge -e world if I wanted to rebuild everything for a new gcc or toolchain, and it's never had problems.
[18:35]<s1r>hello people, is there a util in gentoo that shows which cpu is running which threads? I googled, but could not find anything
[18:35]<azaxjg___>kojiro: That does sound more reasonable... Last time I did emerge -e world was when my use flags were hosed (~arch) and I needed to fix GCC itself.
[18:35]<azaxjg___>kojiro: No more USE="~arch" for me.
[18:36]<caayza>Archon___: you mean ACCEPT_KEYWORDS?
[18:36]<azaxjg___>kojiro: Yep.
[18:36]<azaxjg___>kojiro: Baaaaad mojo. ;-)
[18:37]<caayza>Archon___: not necessarily. But it is very hard to revert to stable from ~arch, I'll grant you
[18:37]<caayza>Archon___: that's what package.keywords is for :-)
[18:37]<svumygsygwjzms>mesa is br0ken.
[18:37]<caayza>well, no, package.keywords is to make that unnecessary :-)
[18:37]<azaxjg___>kojiro: Yep.. and there's only one good way to learn that lesson. ;-)
[18:38]<mzzcsyymn>yea, i reverted from ~ to x86, about a 3 month timeframe from when i started to finally finished. i just waited for everything to become stable
[18:39]<fjvnajmnz>i just called ASUS, they told me to call the manufacturers of Gentoo instead
[18:39]<caayza>darksiide: yep, that makes sense -- another way to do it is to put just about everything in package.keywords with a fixed version atom
[18:39]<mzzcsyymn>yup
[18:39]<fjvnajmnz>So, ummmmm... manufacturers of Gentoo? :)
[18:39]<caayza>darksiide: sed awk sort ftw :-)
[18:39]<azaxjg___>kojiro: That's what I'd do.. but the whole 'atom' and 'virtual' thing is still a bit 'rough' in my mind... but I'm gettin' there.
[18:40]<xyacs>lovecoder: 1-800-MYGENTOO
[18:40]<caayza>lovecoder: Daniel Robbins is out at the moment :P
[18:40]<rrgg_mjgpusyjg>why does portage allow the nvidia kernel to be installed but the x11 nvidia drivers not?
[18:40]<mzzcsyymn>lovecoder: don't mention an OS when talking to support OR mention windows only because they is all they know how to work on
[18:40]<fjvnajmnz>hicks: lol, and will I be put on hold for 20 minutes!
[18:40]<rrgg_mjgpusyjg>seems like youd need both to get anywhere?
[18:40]<fusnzusnz>wow I just tried kororaa with XGL, it's simply awsome!!!
[18:40]<jnff-o-fysxy>anybody know of a webmail client that can use a directory of individual vcards as an address book ?
[18:41]<mzzcsyymn>luseruser: yea? so?
[18:41]<fusnzusnz>darksiide: I just wanted to share my enthusiasm
[18:41]<syddnee>how do i stop outgoing connections from my local machine to port 3306? It is a test server and because previous developers didn't document their code, i want to make sure all calls are going to the local machine - by blocking outgoing 3306, i can catch any errors thrown up.
[18:41]<mzzcsyymn>...
[18:41]<flnyfsfyvnn>XGL is cool, but I haven't used it since installing it and playing with it
[18:41]<fjvnajmnz>darksiide and hicks: They said they only support Windows XP and 2003, etc. but I'd have to contact the manufacturer in case of Gentoo
[18:42]<mzzcsyymn>lovecoder: exactly, that is why you don't mention any OS
[18:42]<fjvnajmnz>darksiide and hicks: They didn't push me off to the manufacturer of windows. I wonder why.
[18:43]<ljzmvrg>hi welp[server] :)
[18:43]<ggmmdsgrrjjg>lovecoder, Whats the issue ?
[18:43]<wnfl[snzvnz]>LordVan: how's it going?
[18:43]<fjvnajmnz>darksiide and hicks: Well, I just needed to know if Gentoo has support for the new ASUS AM2 socket motherboards, because I have to buy them today or my funders won't give me the money.
[18:43]<lzr>caze_donfusion, if you install nvidia-drivers you don't need -kernel anymore
[18:43]<mzcxzgmzz>simmerz: Look at iptables
[18:43]<mzzcsyymn>lovecoder: yea, they wouldn't know if gentoo supported that, heh
[18:43]<mzzajwwwot>If I use the GTK+ installer with the GRP can I later upgrade those packages to the newest version with portage?
[18:44]<fjvnajmnz>NeddySeagoon: I just need to know if Gentoo has support for the new ASUS M2V-SLI Deluxe motherboard, because I have to buy it today or my funders won't give me the money.
[18:44]<rrgg_mjgpusyjg>prg: really! thanks!!!
[18:45]<djsdsvnd>it hangs
[18:45]<djsdsvnd>for the second time now
[18:45]<lzr>caze_donfusion, yeah either -kernel and -glx or only -drivers, that's both together
[18:45]<ggmmdsgrrjjg>lovecoder, It will work ... the SLI bit depends on the nVidia binary driver - check the nVidia site for that
[18:45]<caayza>DJSystem: don't use it
[18:46]<djsdsvnd>so what should i use? just the manual approach/
[18:46]<mzzcsyymn>yup!
[18:46]<djsdsvnd>?
[18:46]<caayza>DJSystem: absolutely
[18:46]<ggmmdsgrrjjg>lovecoder, You planning to to do SLI in Gentoo ?
[18:46]<djsdsvnd>can i do that while im in my livecd environment?
[18:46]<fjvnajmnz>NeddySeagoon: thanx, I'm not looking for SLI anyways
[18:46]<ggmmdsgrrjjg>lovecoder, no point in getting a SLI board then - its a waste of money
[18:47]<mzcxzgmzz>lovecoder: M2V has an odd chipset
[18:47]<caayza>NeddySeagoon: SHH, it's corporate!
[18:47]<ggmmdsgrrjjg>lovecoder, get a proper NUMA board ...
[18:48]<cds16t>hello
[18:48]<srmsprn>sheesh.. kde-3.5.2 compile going on 16hrs
[18:48]<srmsprn>sheesh.. kde-3.5.2 compile going on 16hrs
[18:48]<srmsprn>oops
[18:48]<jgggr>hithere
[18:48]<fjvnajmnz>DrChandra and NeddySeagoon: I'm thinking of getting the XFX 7600 GS video card, but not doing any SLI. I'm going after the other features of that motherboard, namely dual Gb Lan and 6 SATA, etc.
[18:48]<djsdsvnd>kojiro, can i install manually from inside the LiveCD environment?
[18:48]<xyacs>lovecoder: searche the forums for this MB?
[18:48]<fjvnajmnz>DrChandra and NeddySeagoon: Hmmm... what's a NUMA?
[18:49]<caayza>DJSystem: yes, one way to get to a regular shell is to pass it the 'nox' kernel boot argument
[18:49]<fjvnajmnz>hicks: did a search, couldn't find anything, it's still pretty new
[18:49]<ggmmdsgrrjjg>lovecoder, NUMA is a muli CPU arch where each CPU has its own local mem ... its faster than SMP
[18:50]<mzcxzgmzz>lovecoder: Memory architecture
[18:50]<djsdsvnd>what i meant was, could i just go to a terminal (ctrl-alt-whatever) and start the installation from there?
[18:50]<ggmmdsgrrjjg>lovecoder, Non Uniform Memory Arch
[18:50]<mzzajwwwot>I want to do the GTK install, but I don't know which ISO to d/l
[18:50]<caayza>DJSystem: sure
[18:50]<mzzajwwwot>I see 4 ISOs
[18:50]<djsdsvnd>hmmm, ok i'll try that
[18:50]<cnzd>just get the live cd
[18:51]<tjcdj>ok , how about PSX emulators on Gentoo ?
[18:51]<cnzd>the gtk install is pretty bad, though
[18:51]<tjcdj>is there any ?
[18:51]<jgggr>I'm trying the diskles boot http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Gentoo_Diskless_Install and it works so far but I get now this error: portmap: RPC call returned error 101 when the system wants to mount / AFAIR means 101 Unreachable Network, but I don't understand that, becourse I already was booting over this network
[18:51]<djsdsvnd>yeah, i've been fighting with the GTK installer all day and its not working
[18:51]<mzzajwwwot>kery, most people only have 700 MB CDs
[18:51]<fjvnajmnz>DrChandra + NeddySeagoon + hicks: I'm totally broke, but I struck a deal with these people, to deliver them a Perl script and in return they will buy me 2 $1000 systems if I order by today, it's a pretty crazy deal.
[18:51]<djsdsvnd>anyway i need to reboot, since i changed partitions Oo
[18:51]<djsdsvnd>bbl
[18:51]<djsdsvnd>thanks kojiro
[18:51]<jgggr>does someone know what could be done about that?
