[00:00]<dzzajgw|wjzc>djbeenie, what does "readlink /dev/cdrom" say?
[00:00]<ma2gggyg>DraconxWork: sr0
[00:00]<dzzajgw|wjzc>djbeenie, hm well that's right then
[00:01]<ma2gggyg>DraconxWork: i have my player set to that...what is the directory then?
[00:01]<rgmxr_>anyone know why when i startx as a normal user i get Cannot move old log file ("/var/log/Xorg.0.log" to "/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old"
[00:01]<fjw>Andha_, probably some permission problem
[00:01]<dzzajgw|wjzc>Andha_, that sounds like X has lost its setuid root bit
[00:01]<dzzajgw|wjzc>Andha_, either that, or root doesn't have write access to /var/log somehow
[00:02]<2fuz2>jetsar:edim: http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
[00:02]<bynnnx>be warned, those drivers dont really like amd64 or smp
[00:02]<ma2gggyg>DraconxlWork: i have my player set to that...what is the directory then?
[00:02]<ma2gggyg>ack
[00:02]<fjw>Andha_, what does ls -l `which Xorg` say?
[00:02]<bynnnx>they "work" but they are about as stable as an italian taxi driver
[00:02]<rgmxr_>FoW, its k fixed it now
[00:03]<rgmxr_>thankyou Draconx|Work
[00:03]<fjw>Andha_, 'kay :)
[00:03]<dzzajgw|wjzc>Andha_, it was the setuid?
[00:03]<rgmxr_>setuid bit worked :P
[00:03]<dzzajgw|wjzc>heh
[00:03]<rgmxr_>i dunno hwo it lost it
[00:03]<rgmxr_>cause i did nothing
[00:03]<rgmxr_>just been running for 16 days, andrebooted and it was brokened
[00:03]<rgmxr_>but meh
[00:03]<rgmxr_>works now
[00:04]<dzzajgw|wjzc>Andha_, two reasons a setuid bit can change besides random corruption: 1) the file was changed, 2) the bit was accidentally removed by something.
[00:05]<dzzajgw|wjzc>Andha_, i'd doublecheck to make sure it wasn't #1 ;)
[00:05]<caayza>!seen marienz
[00:05]<annvns>marienz (i=marienz@gentoo/developer/marienz) was last seen quitting from #gentoo-qa 1 day, 13 hours, 43 minutes ago stating (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)).
[00:06]<rgmxr_>you mean file being changed?
[00:06]<ma2gggyg>anyone...what is the directory for /dev/sr0
[00:06]<dzzajgw|wjzc>Andha_, yeah if someone modifies a setuid file, it loses the setuid bit for security reasons.
[00:07]<tfkdfn>djbeenie: /dev?
[00:07]<rgmxr_>Draconx|Work, aye but noone will / has unles it was me :)
[00:07]<dzzajgw|wjzc>heh
[00:07]<fxfyvn>hey anyone know if there is a performance factor with partition size?
[00:08]<dzzajgw|wjzc>phlite, partitions with lots of free space generally perform better than partitions with little
[00:08]<pfjmyg>phlite: if your partition is smaller it will probably perform worse
[00:08]<rgmxr_>although there might be alot of things that have lost there setuid now :P, cause i accidently ran a chmod 0711 * in /usr/X11R6/bin while i was trying to fix it :) so yeah oh well :P
[00:08]<dzzajgw|wjzc>Andha_, well that'll do it
[00:08]<rgmxr_>yeah Draconx|Work that was after i encountered the problem though
[00:09]<dzzajgw|wjzc>yikes there's quite a few files in ther
[00:09]<rgmxr_>theres no way to restore original attrs is there?:P
[00:09]<lzgssggvgz>can somebody see this: http://rafb.net/paste/results/jNvZX656.html
[00:09]<lzgssggvgz>?
[00:09]<dzzajgw|wjzc>Andha_, re-emerging packages with files in there is probably the easiest way
[00:10]<rgmxr_>Draconx|Work, is there a list of installed packages held anywhere?
[00:10]<dzzajgw|wjzc>Andha_, qfile /path/to/file will tell you what package owns a given file, so if you scripted around that
[00:10]<rgmxr_>aye
[00:10]<dzzajgw|wjzc>Andha_, (qfile is part of portage-utils)
[00:11]<rgmxr_>ok duck
[00:11]<fxfyvn>Draconx:Work: really ...
[00:11]<fxfyvn>Draconx:Work: im talkin about a 4.77TB partition, prolly still ok?
[00:11]<rgmxr_>ahhhh
[00:12]<dzzajgw|wjzc>phlite, you will need to enable "Large Block Device" support in your kernel, but i should be OK
[00:12]<dzzajgw|wjzc>phlite, i hear ext3 isn't so great at sizes like that, though
[00:12]<fxfyvn>Draconx|Work: kk thx
[00:12]<nwjmus>phlite: use reiserfs
[00:12]<dzzajgw|wjzc>phlite, reiserfs will take you all day to mount that
[00:12]<fxfyvn>exodus: ya im using ext3 on it atm
[00:12]<dzzajgw|wjzc>phlite, unless you run -mm, in which case you're crazy
[00:13]<rgmxr_>meh never good at scripting heh
[00:13]<nwjmus>phlite: if you have a mail cluster on ext34
[00:13]<nwjmus>ext3*
[00:13]<nwjmus>then you are limited
[00:13]<nwjmus>to 32 thousand sub folder files
[00:13]<fxfyvn>Draconx|Work: -mm ?
[00:13]<fxfyvn>this be used for a NAS
[00:13]<nwjmus>and postfix will complain after 32k mails addresses
[00:13]<dzzajgw|wjzc>phlite, the most unstable of the development kernels
[00:14]<dzzajgw|wjzc>phlite, they made reiserfs mount fast in recent versions though ;)
[00:14]<nwjmus>reiserfs has a 10-20x performance boost over ext on small files
[00:14]<ma2gggyg>i emerged the xmms cd play plugin...that seems to work way better than KsCD
[00:14]<ma2gggyg>cds are playing again
[00:14]<fxfyvn>Draconx|Work: k
[00:15]<lzjvnw>What's the KDE equivalent to Firestarter?
[00:15]<nwjmus>phlite: i assume you're using raid right?
[00:15]<lzjvnw>Oh okay got it. It's guardog
[00:16]<fxfyvn>exodus: yes raid5
[00:16]<nwjmus>phlite: reiserfs will help you, i can assure you
[00:16]<fxfyvn>exodus: so ext3, or reiserfs, no performance considerations with partition size?
[00:16]<dzzajgw|wjzc>phlite, mounting a reiserfs partition like that will take at least a few minutes though, so be warned.
[00:16]<nwjmus>phlite: reiserfs is faster
[00:16]<nwjmus>phlite: they used enhanced b-tree indexing
[00:16]<fjw>exodus, ext3 has enhanced b-tree indexing
[00:17]<nwjmus>FoW: reiserfs has b-*tree
[00:17]<fjw>I don't even know what a b-tree is, so I'll not say any more ^_^
[00:17]<nwjmus>even the gentoo people recommend it
[00:17]<nwjmus>FoW: it's used for file indexing
[00:17]<caayza>who are these mysterious "gentoo people"?
[00:18]<nwjmus>kojiro: who me?
[00:18]<caayza>do they have antennae and look like purple blobs emerging from a target painted on the ground?
[00:18]<-- svgvsdyzgjvr_ xrs>/dev/null")
[00:18]<tfkdfn>FoW, exodus: afaik its a method of doing lists or something
[00:18]<pfjmyg>kojiro: it's a group of strange people who live on the other side of the island
[00:18]<nwjmus>TFKyle: you could say that..
[00:18]<jmvygm>Hi ppl, I'm unable to select my favorite terminal bitmap font in Konsole for some reason. I'm addicted to misc-fixed-6x13 (standard x11 font), but the right size is _not_ available. It's working nicely in Emacs, which isn't fontconfig-based AFAIK. Any hints ?
[00:18]<nwjmus>to make it simple..
[00:18]<vuwyac>gentoo people are ricers!
[00:18]<pfjmyg>kojiro: they walk around whispering "reiserfs... reiserfs..."
