[06:30]<crxlpy>? monokrome
[06:31]<gnz0w_>reisio: Hm... Lookin' around. Seems cool.
[06:31]<djgjczjdn>its *.ssm.gz
[06:31]<djgjczjdn>It's an ssm file for spiralsynthmodular
[06:31]<pzjsv2uzg>what's the command to change the gentoo sources, (sym link, etc)
[06:31]<znysyj>kk
[06:31]<djgjczjdn>but I cant decompress it because I dont know how
[06:31]<crxlpy>like mark_alec said gunzip
[06:32]<znysyj>monokrome: y'know tar can do .tar.gz, right?
[06:32]<znysyj>mzbot: gentoo frostburn kernel upgrade
[06:32]<djgjczjdn>Yeah, i've used tar before
[06:32]<de2jv>frostburn: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/kernel-upgrade.xml
[06:32]<djgjczjdn>But tar didn't work.
[06:32]<crxlpy>reisio: it aint tar
[06:32]<znysyj>...yes, I know
[06:32]<djgjczjdn>gunzip didn't say anything
[06:32]<crxlpy>monokrome: gunzip gunzip gunzip
[06:32]<pzjsv2uzg>i've been doing manual kernel upgrades since hmm forever, i just heard there was a command for it
[06:32]<pzjsv2uzg>aside genkernel
[06:32]<crxlpy>gunzip [file].gz
[06:32]<gnz0w_>reisio: How do I unmask sunbird?
[06:33]<crxlpy>reisio> monokrome: y'know tar can do .tar.gz, right? (sorry, I was confused) ;^)
[06:33]<csnzj>frostburn, are you talking about eselect? That can handle the symlink selection
[06:33]<znysyj>ner0x_: echo "~app-office/mozilla-sunbird-bin-0.3_alpha2" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
[06:34]<pzjsv2uzg>ksero, that's the same as just making a symbolic link, right?
[06:34]<crxlpy>is it working monokrome?
[06:34]<sjdncjjf>does anybody know if there is an option so gentoo launch DHCP on boot ONLY if there is a cable plugin ?
[06:34]<gnz0w_>reisio: Thank you.
[06:35]<csnzj>frostburn, yeah... but eselect has a menu!
[06:35]<scugcd>somekool: have a look at ifplugd
[06:35]<rsxrc>somekool, erm, installing netplug might do what you want.
[06:35]<crxlpy>Triffid_Hunter: 70% of pass 3 done and no errors
[06:35]<pzjsv2uzg>ksero, lol, i thought it did some other magical thing, guess not =P
[06:35]<sjdncjjf>thx
[06:35]<2gge006>hi!
[06:35]<sjdncjjf>how about this threaded boot thing to faster startup, is it stable, i cant find the howto anywhere around
[06:36]<2gge006>what's the difference between USE="3dfx" and USE="(3dfx%)" ?
[06:36]<pzjsv2uzg>make all && make install && make modules_install && emerge alsa-drivers <- stupid broken alsa
[06:36]<pzjsv2uzg>oh and make oldconfig before everything'
[06:36]<csnzj>frostburn, it probably has some other functions... haven't really looked into it
[06:37]<rsxrc>somekool, i've not tried it, but I think there's an option that can be simply changed from no to yes in /etc/conf.d/rc, something about parallel startup.... I may be wrong though
[06:37]<sjdncjjf>thanks
[06:38]<rsxrc>nice
[06:38]<pzjsv2uzg>ttuttle, intel or amd?
[06:38]<vvuvvfn>frostburn: Intel Core 2 Duo.
[06:38]<vvuvvfn>frostburn: It's really really really really really fast.
[06:38]<pzjsv2uzg>i've been meaning to get a new laptop, but i want amd
[06:38]<vvuvvfn>frostburn: /me prefers Intel, I dunno why.
[06:38]<pzjsv2uzg>(with linux support)
[06:39]<vvuvvfn>ashak: /me has one of those too (it's 900 MHz).
[06:39]<pzjsv2uzg>ashak, lol i'm on a p3 now =(
[06:39]<pzjsv2uzg>800
[06:39]<rsxrc>luckily mine is jsut for a couple of browser windows. showing our monitoring.
[06:40]<vvuvvfn>ashak: Nagios?
[06:40]<vvuvvfn>ashak: Nagios at my school just caught a huge network outage before anyone else!
[06:40]<rsxrc>ttuttle, and Big brother
[06:40]<vvuvvfn>ashak: (One of our five switches went down.) What's big brother?
[06:41]<pzjsv2uzg>mine is web,irc,gaim, and ssh
[06:41]<rsxrc>ttuttle, www.bb4.com, although looks like it's more of a commercial solution now. We've migrated everything from it to Nagios except temperature sensors and ups'
[06:41]<vvuvvfn>ashak: ah
[06:42]<rsxrc>Nagios is much nicer, at least, nicer that our BB setup
[06:42]<rsxrc>Nagios lets us know fo any probs withing 5 mins, BB can take up to 30 mins.
[06:42]<rsxrc>s/withing/within/
[06:42]<vvuvvfn>ashak: My Nagios seems to be really sluggish sometimes. (It's running on an ancient eMachine.)
[06:44]<rsxrc>ttuttle, our main nagios server is a little sluggish. But it's doing quite alot of work. It's also the one that talks to all the satellite nodes.
[06:44]<rsxrc>Does the job though
[06:44]<mzvyz>for some reason I can't get my mac os x box to connect to my samba server... udp 137-138 and tcp 139, 445 are open
[06:44]<vvuvvfn>ashak: ah
[06:45]<rsxrc>I think my boss wants to replace it really., is it's a crappy old box. If it died we'd be a little screwed :)
[06:46]<2nccs>hi
[06:47]<2nccs>to whom or how do i report inconsistencies in use flags?
[06:47]<crxlpy>3 passes and no errors in memtest86
[06:48]<2nccs>since using enabling dar32 and dar64 at the same time doesnt make any sense, not even because in that case dar64 ist gonna be used
[06:48]<crxlpy>back to the docs
[06:48]<pzjsv2uzg>bekks, probably file a bug report would be your best bet, or keep asking around in here
[06:49]<2nccs>frostburn: ok, i think enabling both on a 32bit platform will result in a bug, I'm gonna report that as a bug then :) thx
[06:49]<znysyj>bekks: http://bugs.gentoo.org/
[06:50]<svnvnn61>i'm trying to emerge --sync and i'm having difficulties. it connects, but it times out on "receiving file list". any suggestions?
[06:51]<kur-rult>try a new resync server
[06:51]<mnmyrrvnm>Do you have preferred mirrors defined in /etc/make.conf?
[06:51]<kur-rult>emerge mirrorselect
[06:51]<svnvnn61>dedicated: no, the gtk installer didn't take care of that
[06:52]<kur-rult>delete the resync server in /etc/make.conf
[06:52]<kur-rult>and use mirrorselect to add a new resync server
[06:52]<mnmyrrvnm>check /etc/make.conf anyway and make sure there isn't one in there...
[06:52]<svnvnn61>KuR-RupT: there's not one in there. and it connects to the server but doesn't seem to be downloading mirrorselect either. is it my iptables?
[06:53]<svnvnn61>it connects but the progress bar sits on zero percent
[06:53]<kur-rult>u have rules set in your iptables?
[06:53]<svnvnn61>sure
[06:53]<kur-rult>it can be your iptables yes
[06:53]<kur-rult>depending on the rule u added
[06:53]<svnvnn61>what would i need for rsync?
[06:54]<kur-rult>well.. i dont think its what u need
[06:54]<kur-rult>i think its what ur blocking
[06:54]<svnvnn61>i'm not blocking anything in particular and i let "related and established" through.
[06:54]<mnmyrrvnm>I'm trying to get 3d acceleration to work. I have followed the guide at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/dri-howto.xml down to where it says to start X. When I try to start X, it complains that there is no "radeon" module. There really is a module called radeon. I know this because it's in use. Anyone have any idea why X can't find it?
[06:54]<kur-rult>Steve973: that should be fine then, did you JUST insatll gentoo?
[06:54]<znd6>I was looking at the info on the gentoo website about portage and I don't know if I missed it, but I couldn't find a place where it explained what the letters after 'ebuild' mean when you do emerge -a whatever. For example, B is for blocked right? what about the rest?
[06:55]<svnvnn61>KuR-RupT: yes, and also in a virtual machine
[06:55]<xmmzjrgg>rem7: U=update N=New S=Slot
