[04:06]<rzrrcj>is it possible to turn off font anti-aliasing in all gtk apps?
[05:14]<af2nzvjl>night
[11:06]<-- svgvsdyzgjvr_ xrs>/dev/null")
[15:36]<af2nzvjl>hello
[21:46]<ffjwcyrr>dondek..
[21:46]<ffjwcyrr>lo
[21:48]<ffjwcyrr>The biggest grif i have with OSS today is that more users are using things like PyGTK and other things that have no quality what so ever. I propose a ban on those rotten languages (for the sake of mankind) PS: im _Not_ joking ..
[21:49]<ffjwcyrr>users = newb coders
[21:50]<ffjwcyrr>tv-card watching applications suck aswell... only 2 made in C, fftv and xawtv
[21:51]<ffjwcyrr>myth tv needs some love, thats for sure
[21:52]<af2nzvjl>well doing guis in C is overcomplex...OOP is definetly a must there imho
[21:53]<ffjwcyrr>Nope
[21:53]<af2nzvjl>hehe a clear explanation :)
[21:54]<ffjwcyrr>Use crap and crap is what you will get (immaturity of the languages etc) ... I advice anyone TO LEARN .. not to use inferior technology
[21:54]<ffjwcyrr>Better! :)
[21:54]<af2nzvjl>I agree with that
[21:54]<ffjwcyrr>thanks there Alber..
[21:55]<af2nzvjl>but this doesn't mean you have to manage memory management manually for example if you can use for example stl
[21:55]<ffjwcyrr>Albertop: wanna code some c for me today ? :)
[21:55]<af2nzvjl>hahaha
[21:55]<af2nzvjl>C is the first language I learnt :P
[21:56]<af2nzvjl>but now I'm using mainly c++
[21:56]<ffjwcyrr>Albertop: gtk has: g_strdup_printf("%s %s", "Hello", laketitticake); and g_strconcat(); .. .very handy things
[21:56]<ffjwcyrr>c++ is ok as well
[21:56]<ffjwcyrr>Albertop: did you know that redhat changed the fgets() code in glibc ?
[21:57]<af2nzvjl>hehe yup...but you don't have to go crazy with malloc/calloc whatsoever :P
[21:57]<ffjwcyrr>in glibc-2.4 ... i had to put in checks for reads less then 2
[21:57]<ffjwcyrr>Albertop: what line was that in responce to ?
[21:57]<af2nzvjl>c++ is ok as well
[21:57]<af2nzvjl>:P
[21:58]<ffjwcyrr>Ah, ok
[21:58]<af2nzvjl>Flowking, I don't use RH...it's ehm...well, better not to tell in public :)
[21:58]<ffjwcyrr>So what do you think about redhat changing glibc to non-posix ?
[21:58]<ffjwcyrr>Thats GNU-Glibc Man! :)
[21:59]<ffjwcyrr>I do _not_ like redhat... if they keep that up im gonna get way mad
[21:59]<af2nzvjl>I don't like red hat. It's the king of non-standard linux!
[21:59]<ffjwcyrr>Had to put in checks in 5 of my programs
[22:00]<ffjwcyrr>Thats like 5000 checks maybe
[22:00]<af2nzvjl>they change little things...but damn...key things...hate that
[22:00]<ffjwcyrr>5000 lines to put into the right place before any fgets code
[22:01]<af2nzvjl>actually I don't know how standard suse is (i use suse), but I never had problems there...
[22:01]<ffjwcyrr>I had a discussion with alan cox about it but he appeared to be braindead and also his side-show-blob that said my code was wrong (has worked ok since 1998) :)
[22:02]<af2nzvjl>haha
[22:02]<af2nzvjl>sure...if it doesn't work...it's your fault...seems a MS answer :P
[22:02]<ffjwcyrr>wanna see how it was made and why ?
[22:02]<ffjwcyrr>MS indeed
[22:02]<ffjwcyrr>Fuck MS... i hate those morons
[22:02]<af2nzvjl>hehe
[22:03]<af2nzvjl>ok, let's see
[22:03]<af2nzvjl>what do you thing about c#?
[22:05]<ffjwcyrr>I dont need it... i can code my own functions to act as those from c# if i like them.... have a look at this also, i installed a bareboned OS and ran "yum -y update" .. somehow it wanted to install every package they have http://mange.dynalias.org/linux/misc/FC5_Crazy_RPM_Stuff/Fedora5_updates_non_installed_programs.png
[22:06]<af2nzvjl>ahh I know
[22:06]<af2nzvjl>up2date killed my system on fedora many times...
[22:06]<af2nzvjl>that's why I switched
[22:06]<ffjwcyrr>Not as one would have thought.... one update the packages you have installed (Morons and useless coders alternatively to much 666)
[22:06]<af2nzvjl>now also Novell ehm...did some crap on the package manager
[22:07]<ffjwcyrr>I began with debian... a nice system
[22:07]<ffjwcyrr>Albertop: they use rpm shit ?
[22:08]<af2nzvjl>Flowking, yes, suse is rpm based, but it worked ok till 10.0. Now in 10.1 they replaced the package manager of yast with another one, and it had some bug. Now it seems ok...a bit slow, but ok. They did this to support more repositories formats.
[22:09]<ffjwcyrr>This box is FC5 and it stinks... theyve jumped onto the hardware manufacturers bandwagon (Make slow OSes and we must buy new boxes) ... all my boxes has broken btw
[22:10]<ffjwcyrr>I code on a borrowed computer now
[22:10]<ffjwcyrr>But on the good side ive aquired a paypal thingy to perhaps finance a new one if im lucky
[22:11]<af2nzvjl>suse has always been slow, but actually I had only one broken installation in 3 years...and it was nvidia fault
[22:11]<af2nzvjl>sorry...I'm pretty new here...what do you develop?
[22:13]<ffjwcyrr>Tried that xgl thing yet ? i havnt, no box of my own since the condensators melted on my dual athlon mp a7m266-d board. Went out to buy a new one, the clerk told me that his shit would work ok... didnt support MP and i bought 2 boards. Returned them and got sick of computers so i rebooted the mind a bit by partying wildly :)
[22:13]<ffjwcyrr>the apps on gadmintools.org
[22:14]<af2nzvjl>Flowking, yup...using xgl right now
[22:14]<ffjwcyrr>I watched the video :( .. looked awesome
[22:15]<ffjwcyrr>Chalmers in Sweden was the pioneer i think
[22:15]<af2nzvjl>for being still under development, it's great
[22:15]<ffjwcyrr>I like that
[22:15]<af2nzvjl>only 60% is completed, and it's already usable :)
[22:16]<ffjwcyrr>I showed it to some diehard-blowhard windows monkeys and they switched to linux :P
[22:16]<af2nzvjl>hehehe
[22:16]<af2nzvjl>yes, many vista testers think xgl is getting better than aero :))
[22:16]<ffjwcyrr>Plus the server guis i make... those are needed i think
[22:17]<af2nzvjl>ah definetly!
[22:17]<ffjwcyrr>many have switched because of them i think... maybe i can bet a buck or 2 from that paypal setup ill do next week :)
[22:18]<af2nzvjl>I don't know much of system configuration...just the basics...so I extensively use guis :)
[22:19]<af2nzvjl>well yup...you're doing a great work for users
[22:19]<ffjwcyrr>A pain to learn the servers... yeah. Ive seen "top knotch" admins do small mistakes that makes their boxes hackable. the little things, maybe just adding a virtual homedirectory or so
[22:19]<ffjwcyrr>Oh, thanks mate!
[22:20]<af2nzvjl>it's true...linux need guis
[22:21]<ffjwcyrr>I think so to
[22:21]<af2nzvjl>it's difficult to configure using text files...you don't know them, you risk to make tons of mistakes
[22:21]<ffjwcyrr>Yes, im working on loadbalancing for isc dhcpd atm... its not easy!!! to add :)
[22:22]<af2nzvjl>hehe I bet
[22:22]<af2nzvjl>I work in fluid dynamics...and use linux because all codes work better there...but ehm...configuring for example clusters is painful :)
[22:23]<ffjwcyrr>whats "fluid dynamics" .. ?
[22:23]<ffjwcyrr>realtime clusters of some sort ?
[22:23]<af2nzvjl>high performance
[22:24]<ffjwcyrr>Cool
