[01:39]<wxrvs_yg_r_grdn>-from nvidia.com
[01:40]<wxrvs_yg_r_grdn>-the nforce 4 amd, or the nforce 4 amd/intel x16

[01:56]<vvuvvfn>+Hey, I have an Asus laptop, and the screen hinge is broken on one side. It's only attached at the ends, so it's basically attached only on the left, plus it's held a little in the middle. It got dropped off a bed, so there's no way this is under warranty. The hard drive on the laptop could also use replacing. I think it would cost about $400. I'm definitely buying a laptop within a year (I'm entering senior year in high school this fall, and I'm
[01:58]<pfd2racw>+ttuttle did you try online part stores
[01:59]<vvuvvfn>+flybackx: I've tried Google, a little... it didn't find much.
[01:59]<vvuvvfn>+flybackx: I don't trust myself not to break it in the process though.
[01:59]<pfd2racw>+well I am buried tonight so I can't help but mabye in a few days
[01:59]<pfd2racw>+well it's broken already
[02:00]<vvuvvfn>+flybackx: Yeah but I don't wanna spend $$$ on parts and then break them :-b
[02:00]<pfd2racw>+well just case parts and hinges shouldn't be bad
[02:01]<vvuvvfn>+flybackx: The place that was going to fix it said probably more than $100. They were the original builder of the laptop (they're an Asus reseller) so I don't know if that's with a lot of markup or not.
[02:04]<vvuvvfn>+flybackx: Eek, none of the first few stores I've looked at on Google carry my laptop's parts. They all carry Asus, but none carry parts for the M2400Ne.
[02:05]<svjgngnwv>+ Asus laptops seem to be a total bitch to track down :(
[02:05]<pfd2racw>+bbl
[02:05]<vvuvvfn>+flybackx: k
[02:05]<vvuvvfn>+StoneNewt: I hate this one.
[02:06]<vvuvvfn>+StoneNewt: I don't *want* to pay $400 to fix it (I'd rather get a new one) but my dad is like "If you fix this one and wait a year, you'll get a better one later." No shit. But I don't want to pay to fix this one *and* for a new one. Then the $2000-ish I was planning on spending becomes $1600, or rather if I spend $2000 on the new one, I'm actually out $2400.
[02:17]<vvuvvfn>+StoneNewt: What do you think? Is it stupid to buy a new one now? (I might wait until Merom [a.k.a. Core 2 Duo) comes out.)
[02:19]<gsn>+what does a continuous beep at bios startup means?
[02:20]<dzrajgyaus>+Want to hear a funny story?
[02:20]<gsn>+the computer of my friend froze. and now it do not boot anymore, black screen, both of the leds are on
[02:20]<vvuvvfn>+Draconicus: sure
[02:20]<gsn>+yes, sure
[02:22]<vvuvvfn>+Draconicus: well...?
[02:22]<dzrajgyaus>+Working on it.
[02:22]<vvuvvfn>+Draconicus: k
[02:23]<dzrajgyaus>+I built this computer two years ago. I thought it was a drastic improvement from the Pentium II Compaq Deskpro that I had been stuck with before that. I didn't think to save the packaging for the processor, and I quickly forgot what the exact model of my AMD Athlon XP was. Eventually, I decided that it was an Athlon XP 1600. Even for such a speed, it started to seem very slow, even if it was running along with a lousy 256MB stic
[02:23]<dzrajgyaus>+k of 166MHz DDR.
[02:23]<dzrajgyaus>+Today, I realized that it had been running at half speed this whole time, thanks to a mistake in the BIOS settings.
[02:23]<vvuvvfn>+Draconicus: hahahahahaha!
[02:23]<dzrajgyaus>+It's a 3200+.
[02:23]<vvuvvfn>+Draconicus: Good thing you noticed!
[02:24]<gsn>+and what about my continuous beep. what does it mean?
[02:24]<dzrajgyaus>+nse: Something is horribly wrong.
[02:24]<dzrajgyaus>+Count the beeps and look up the codes.
[02:25]<dzrajgyaus>+Yeah. I didn't know about the settings in the BIOS. I had, after two years of suffering, assumed that I had just purchased an outdated, cheaper CPU, being the newbie I was.
[02:26]<dzrajgyaus>+A friend actually helped me out, with that. We figured out that it wasn't running to its full potential by comparing the info and such with that of his friend's, which was an identical CPU.
[02:27]<dzrajgyaus>+I should have realized something was completely wrong when "cat /proc/cpuinfo" told me it was an AMD Athlon, and not an Athlon XP, though.
[03:30]<mfy>+strange turion x2 is ignored by most computer manufacturers
[05:40]<pypuydpprsdrppjw>-got a hardware question- I seem to have an issue with my hard drive subsystem- there's a problem somewhere between the motherboard and my hard drives (but I know the drives are okay.) Windows XP only boots in safe mode... Ghost will only apply an image if UDMA is disabled in the BIOS, and Vista won't load at all. I have no idea what's going on...
[05:45]<pfd2racw>+uhh
[05:45]<pfd2racw>+vista isn't even out
[05:46]<pypuydpprsdrppjw>-Vista beta :P duh
[05:46]<pfd2racw>+it's going to be buggy and incomplete
[05:46]<pypuydpprsdrppjw>-I know that
[05:46]<pypuydpprsdrppjw>-but I have issues with everything else
[05:46]<pypuydpprsdrppjw>-too
[05:46]<pypuydpprsdrppjw>-so
