[00:29]<gnvdrsc>hello
[00:46]<dx_fn>hey
[00:46]<dx_fn>does anyone here know what the audio quality is like on the Ipod with standard earbuds?
[01:01]<hjfgfgssggss>mh_le: generally sounds fine to me, but I'm hardly an audiophile
[01:05]<dx_fn>ah okay
[01:05]<dx_fn>at what bitrate do encode your mp3s?
[01:06]<hjfgfgssggss>can't say I really notice a difference over 192
[01:24]<wzpnz>any other hardware probs today?
[01:49]<srrrmurrrrr>is it safe to increase the DDR voltage to 2.7 for old DDR sticks?
[01:51]<srrrmurrrrr>I've got some old DDR sticks on one channel pair and some new ones that recommend 2.7V on the other, and I'm experiencing some stabilty issues with auto voltage
[01:51]<srrrmurrrrr>but I'm using pretty slow timings so I don't get it...
[01:59]<caayza>did anyone see the tomshardware article on in-sync overclocking?
[02:00]<caayza>how you could overclock your P4/motherboard/RAM all together to 1GHz FSB?
[02:04]<wzpnz>i heard something like that
[02:04]<wzpnz>there's just always the risk of frying something!
[02:04]<caayza>sure
[02:04]<caayza>I'm actually not planning to do it, though it was an interesting read
[02:04]<caayza>I'd rather put ethernet cables in my walls atm
[02:05]<caayza>:)
[02:05]<wzpnz>heh
[02:05]<wzpnz>tomsharware usually has some pretty good articles
[02:06]<caayza>You know what would be great?
[02:06]<wzpnz>???
[02:06]<caayza>I want to put eth cables in all my walls, and then have a lightswitch-like switch on each floor that turns the wifi on and off for the whole house
[02:07]<caayza>I'd just leave the wifi off most of the time
[02:07]<caayza>and then turn it on when I want to use it
[02:07]<wzpnz>is it necessary to turn it off when not in use
[02:08]<wzpnz>rather than just securing it
[02:08]<caayza>well, I run a pretty open network, even though my wifi is MAC + WPA, I still don't trust it to be secure
[02:08]<wzpnz>do you have multiple AP's
[02:09]<caayza>yes. WDS
[02:10]<wzpnz>are you running any particular brand equipment
[02:11]<wzpnz>like D-link or Linksys/cisco
[02:11]<caayza>apple :-)
[02:11]<wzpnz>oh
[02:11]<wzpnz>not too familiar with apple
[02:11]<caayza>well, so far the only complaint is that it doesn't configure via the web
[02:12]<caayza>and the "configuration tool" doesn't work on wine
[02:12]<wzpnz>most AP's have a software switch
[02:12]<caayza>but I have windows and OS X boxen, so I don't care
[02:12]<wzpnz>ahh
[02:13]<wzpnz>do you need the wirless devices for normal use or just when using wifi
[02:13]<caayza>I only need them when I'm actually doing wireless
[02:13]<caayza>I have plain wired routers and switches for the wired stuff
[02:14]<wzpnz>then you should be able to set up a switch for the power
[02:15]<caayza>yeah, that's basically the plan
[02:15]<caayza>well, I kinda don't want to mess with the electricity too much because I don't know the Electrical Code, so I might have to hire someone to do that
[02:15]<caayza>which sucks
[02:16]<wzpnz>what about a "under monitor" power station
[02:16]<caayza>but I also want to mount the WAPs in specific places and right now it's difficult because there aren't electric sockets in those places
[02:16]<syfyvzggyjg>Ok, so I'm trying to get SCSI working correctly on one machine here
[02:16]<wzpnz>where you plug things in to the back and have switches on front to turn devices on or off
[02:16]<syfyvzggyjg>I have 4 drives I want to use
[02:16]<wzpnz>and you can use extension cords
[02:17]<wzpnz>sil: built-in or add-on scsi
[02:17]<syfyvzggyjg>one of the drives has a larger cable connector on it however, similar to scsi, but longer with no pins.
[02:17]<syfyvzggyjg>the interface is built into the chipset
[02:18]<syfyvzggyjg>I found a converter to convert this slim no-pins scsi to the regular pinned scsi type, which is causing some problems
[02:18]<wzpnz>the no-pin adapter
[02:18]<syfyvzggyjg>when its disabled, three seagate drives are detected
[02:18]<wzpnz>these scsi drives
[02:19]<syfyvzggyjg>when its enabled, the fourth hard drive seems to like going to position 0 on the chain
[02:19]<syfyvzggyjg>it bumps the other seagate out
[02:19]<syfyvzggyjg>(config shows !# next to the name)
[02:19]<wzpnz>this is the drive with adapter
[02:20]<syfyvzggyjg>this one drive is the no-pin scsi, and i have the adapter on it
[02:21]<wzpnz>so there are 3 seagates and 1 other w/adapter
[02:21]<syfyvzggyjg>yes
[02:22]<wzpnz>have you double checked to make sure all drives are set properly
[02:22]<wzpnz>and scsi is configured
[02:23]<syfyvzggyjg>yes, i believe so
[02:25]<wzpnz>have you tried the 3 by themselves
[02:26]<syfyvzggyjg>yes, they identify ok
[02:27]<syfyvzggyjg>when i try the three seagates, they identify OK
[02:27]<syfyvzggyjg>when I add the other one, ID:0 is replaced with the other one
[02:27]<wzpnz>have you tried changing the id on the other 1
[02:28]<syfyvzggyjg>I'm not sure how to change ID's
[02:28]<wzpnz>there should be a jumper on the drive
[02:29]<syfyvzggyjg>there's jumpers on the little converter thing, and some on the other side of the drive
[02:30]<wzpnz>as long as they're on the correct hd, if you can't figure out from what's there
[02:30]<wzpnz>you might try going to the manufacturer's website
[02:31]<syfyvzggyjg>I'm just wondering if the ID might be changed on the actual hard drive, or this little adapter interface
[02:31]<wzpnz>do a little research on the drive and find out how to set it
[02:31]<wzpnz>i believe you're having an id conflict
[02:31]<syfyvzggyjg>wait a minute, there's spaces on this adapter for "ID0, ID1, ID2, ID3"
[02:32]<syfyvzggyjg>maybe if I pick one that's not being used, it will magically work!
[02:32]<wzpnz>it should have to be in order
[02:32]<syfyvzggyjg>alright.. now i just need to find a jumper...
[02:37]<syfyvzggyjg>bleh, I adjusted the jumper, and now ID4 is conflicting
[02:37]<syfyvzggyjg>i guess this is gunna be trial and error
[02:40]<syfyvzggyjg>alright, everything's on their own ID's.. except the fourth drive still has a !# next to it
[02:40]<syfyvzggyjg>SCSI ID #2: ISM-PSG ST39236LC !# ULTRA@-SE
[02:43]<wzpnz>hmm
[02:43]<wzpnz>do you have an os for them
[02:45]<srrrmurrrrr>did anyone see my ddr voltage question? :-x I'm kind of a noob at hardware issues
[02:48]<wzpnz>what voltage are the sticks rated at
[02:49]<srrrmurrrrr>my new ones suggest 2.7, but I don't know what the old ones are. I can't even identify them.
