[00:10]<vwymrnv>I have never had an occasion where I've needed to use my
[00:10]<vwymrnv>Sony MPF920 Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive before now, and now that I do I cannot seem to make it work. I'm using Windows XP SP2. In the Device Manager it says it is using the Standard Floppy Disk Controller with a driver by Microsoft v5.1.2600.0. Could someone help me out here?
[00:11]<vwymrnv>Hmmm, must've copied a weird character or something
[00:16]<hjfgfgssggss>what's not working with it/
[00:17]<vwymrnv>It says the disk that's inserted is not properly formatted, but when I attempt to format it, it says there's no disk.
[00:25]<vwymrnv>Okay: known good, DOS-formatted disk inserted and it still says the disk isn't formatted.
[00:26]<vwymrnv>Maybe it is hardware. I'll shut down and look at it.
[00:30]<mmg>hi all
[00:31]<mmg>problem with bios updating on MSI Hetis 865. Process was broken so now I lost computer and can´t recover with ctrl-home keys pressed when turned on
[00:31]<mmg>any ideas?
[00:34]<vwymrnv>Okay... it was PEBKAC
[00:34]<vwymrnv>The power to the drive had somehow, sometime become disconnected. :(
[00:35]<vwymrnv>Like I said: I have never needed it before now so...
[00:47]<-- dvxn|syzzzyus xzs>http://www.bagdadsoftware.de")
[00:57]<dud2xrac>Will a Pentium 4 processor work in place of a Celeron processor? Both are Socket 478, and roughly the same speed.
[01:02]<2zyac> i think same socket => swappable
[01:05]<dud2xrac>awesome
[01:05]<dud2xrac>That's what I thought, but wasn't sure
[01:05]<2zyac>who said i was sure?
[02:13]<ludl>hi everyone
[02:51]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>Hi all
[02:51]<zjjvraanss>hey
[02:51]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>Do any companies still make i386 hardware?
[02:52]<zjjvraanss>idk -- likely expensive if they do...
[02:52]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>Dammit
[02:52]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>I386 should still be made -_-
[02:52]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>It's not like its expensive
[02:52]<zjjvraanss>ebay
[02:52]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>Theres 1 i386 chip
[02:52]<zjjvraanss>hehe
[02:57]<zjjvraanss>http://www.recycledgoods.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=7954 $100 for MB and proc...
[02:58]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>FFS
[02:59]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>i386 should still be manufactured -_-
[02:59]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>It would rule as an embedded CPU
[02:59]<zjjvraanss>pentiums are cheap
[02:59]<zjjvraanss>and can run embeded NT
[03:00]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>Why would anyone want NT on a damm embedded system?
[03:00]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>I'm trying to make an embedded system, are low end pentiums still made?
[03:05]<2zyac>nomadsoul, but they are free if you can find them
[03:06]<2zyac>s/nomadsoul/no/
[03:09]<pfd2rac><solemnwarning> I386 should still be made -_-
[03:09]<pfd2rac>[19:50] <solemnwarning> It's not like its expensive
[03:09]<pfd2rac>actually several companies still make i386 clones for embedded systems
[03:09]<pfd2rac>intel still did till like 2 yrs ago
[03:10]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>Really?
[03:10]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>Are they cheap to buy?
[03:11]<vzyppym_hugvnz>solemnwarning: gumstix no good?
[03:11]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>I want to build a system with no fan that boots Linux from a floppy, has an ethernet port and 2 PS/2 keyboard ports
[03:11]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>Triffid_Hunter: ?
[03:11]<pfd2rac>no they are suually like $50
[03:11]<pfd2rac>well on a board
[03:11]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>£25ish for a CPU mounted on a board? :)
[03:12]<pfd2rac>hang on I will show you
[03:12]<pfd2rac>it's a SOC dude
[03:12]<pfd2rac>everything on chip
[03:12]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>SOC?
[03:12]<vzyppym_hugvnz>solemnwarning: gumstix is a tiny embedded computer, 'bout the size of a stick of gum, with a 200 or 400mhz proc on board, ram, flash, and heaps of extensibility
[03:12]<pfd2rac>http://www.jkmicro.com/products/flashlite.html
[03:12]<pfd2rac>you can get a via mini itx though that is way more powerful and probably cheaper
[03:13]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>I can get a mini ATX system for less then £25? :O
[03:14]<pfd2rac>wtf is that in US
[03:15]<vzyppym_hugvnz>heh i'd rather a gumstix than a machine as fast as my first computer
[03:16]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>But is gumstix cheap? :)
[03:16]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>And can it boot Linux from a floppy?
[03:16]<vzyppym_hugvnz>especially when the gumstix is cheaper
[03:16]<pfd2rac>dude
[03:16]<pfd2rac>floppy is gay
[03:16]<pfd2rac>slow
[03:16]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>And does it have ethernet and the possibility for 2 PS/2 keyboards? :)
[03:16]<pfd2rac>unreliable
[03:16]<vzyppym_hugvnz>solemnwarning: gumstix comes with linux on it already
[03:16]<pfd2rac>did i mention unreliable
[03:16]<pfd2rac>small
[03:17]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>The system is only 12MB
[03:17]<pfd2rac>you can get compact flash to ide adaptors for $13
[03:17]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>*1.2MB
[03:17]<pfd2rac>or a usb stick if the device supports booting from it
[03:17]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>You ranted about floppies yesterday too :)
[03:17]<vzyppym_hugvnz>solemnwarning: one of the addons has ethernet, and i suspect one might have ps/2 but if not you could always just bit-bang it on some of the other general purpose I/O
[03:17]<pfd2rac>sole
[03:17]<pfd2rac>check ebay
[03:17]<pfd2rac>they have sbc'
[03:17]<pfd2rac>all the time cheap
[03:19]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>sbc?
[03:19]<pfd2rac>single board computer
[03:20]<sjfrdrwzzryrr>You mean they have 1?
[03:21]<ludl>I need some help with a pinnacle pctv stereo, does anybody know?
[03:21]<wzpnz>what kind of help do you need
[03:22]<wzpnz>what's the problem with the pinnacle pctv stereo
[03:22]<ludl>i don't have signal
[03:22]<ludl>i know can see in ntsc
[03:22]<ludl>but here the tv is pal, so i see it black and white and with some interference
[03:23]<vzyppym_hugvnz>so change your card's signal type to pal
[03:23]<ludl>but then i won't see anything
[03:23]<wzpnz>there should be a setting for pal....
[03:24]<ludl>yes, there is
[03:24]<wzpnz>pump: when its set to pal you don't see anything?
