[12:11]<hjfgfgssggss>huh?
[12:11]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>what is a good model of amd for a "medium price" ?
[12:12]<svjgngnwv>WTF komplett.de doesn't sell ram!
[12:12]<svjgngnwv>Hopelessness: the optimisers seem to do a better job at optmising the code with 64bit bins
[12:13]<hjfgfgssggss>well, they have more to work with
[12:13]<hjfgfgssggss>For general usage, any speed increase has absolutly nothing to do with 64-bit support in itself
[12:15]<svjgngnwv>Thanatermesis: GA-K8N51GFM-9, Corsair TwinX Xpert 3200C2, AMD Athlon64 3800+ (not X2) 401.01#
[12:17]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>any link StoneNewt ?
[12:18]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>for look the specs...
[12:26]<svjgngnwv>MSI 915P, Corsair Value Select PC4200 (read slow), Penitum-D 940 396.02#
[12:29]<svjgngnwv>soo let's revisit the AMD solution again... MSI K8NGM2-IL,, TwinMOS PC3200 & Athlon64 X2 3800+ 448.01#
[12:30]<svjgngnwv>with Athlon64 4000+ 302.95#
[12:30]<svjgngnwv>all prices from komplett.de
[12:31]<svjgngnwv>btw a 3800+ X2 delivers aprox 3.5GHz Pentium-D performance...
[12:31]<musafnkym>how can i test if my mobo is damage?
[12:32]<musafnkym>i just rebooted my debian box and now its not booting up
[12:32]<svjgngnwv>why not?
[12:32]<musafnkym>i have no idea my monitor light is blinking
[12:32]<musafnkym>i tested the video card already
[12:33]<svjgngnwv>any beep codes? or led codes on the mobo?
[12:33]<musafnkym>no beeping
[12:33]<musafnkym>and my pc light is steady on
[12:33]<svjgngnwv>hum...
[12:34]<svjgngnwv>tried reseating the graphics card, ram & CPU?
[12:34]<musafnkym>reseating?
[12:34]<svjgngnwv>taking them out and re-inserting them
[12:34]<hjfgfgssggss>yeah, reseat the ram for sure
[12:34]<musafnkym>the ram yes
[12:34]<musafnkym>i removed it and install it
[12:35]<musafnkym>the video card also
[12:35]<musafnkym>hmm.. the cpu? ill reseat it?
[12:35]<svjgngnwv>try disconnecting everything bar the graphics card (unless you have on-board video) and one sick of ram...
[12:35]<hjfgfgssggss>CPU I wouldn't bother with
[12:36]<musafnkym>i have 1 gig of ram an 128mb vc though
[12:36]<musafnkym>ill try it again
[12:37]<hjfgfgssggss>The CPU's in there pretty tight and the pin setup makes it almost impossible for everything to not be in proper contact
[12:38]<svjgngnwv>it can make a diffrence in the bios though...
[12:39]<svjgngnwv>ohh that's a thought clear the cmos
[12:40]<musafnkym>how to clear it?
[12:40]<svjgngnwv>jumper or switch on the mobo
[12:41]<musafnkym>is there a site on how to do that?
[12:41]<svjgngnwv>you need mobo specific instruction
[12:41]<svjgngnwv>s
[12:42]<musafnkym>oh w8 i also tried my cpu in this monitor and it says no powe signal or cable disconnected or power saving
[12:42]<svjgngnwv>hum....
[12:43]<svjgngnwv>no clear path to ground via the graphics card? I can't remember what a display detects for that!
[12:44]<musafnkym>if its power saving it should boot right?
[12:45]<svjgngnwv>powersaving should turn off when the system boots
[12:46]<musafnkym>and also i remove the cable of my hd and the red light is on but not the bright
[12:46]<svjgngnwv>was it like that before you removed yor hdd?
[12:46]<musafnkym>yeah
[12:47]<svjgngnwv>hum.. that's intresting...
[12:47]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>exist motherborads with more than 4 slots for RAM, no ?
[12:47]<svjgngnwv>yes but you're into server boards and all kinds of chipset fun
[12:48]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>i need more a "workstation" than a server but well.. i think to its the same thing
[12:48]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>its expensive motherboards then ?
[12:48]<svjgngnwv>intel or AMD?
[12:49]<svjgngnwv>single or dual CPU?
[12:50]<svjgngnwv>oh quick check says no single CPU boards AMD or intel with more than 4 dimm slots
[12:50]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>amd... after to ear the things about intel... :)
[12:51]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>maybe dual, or if i can posible add it "after" (dual = 2 cpu's separately or in the same piece?)
[12:52]<svjgngnwv>two seperate CPUs on the board
[12:52]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>well, sounds good :)
[12:52]<svjgngnwv>often you need to install cpus in pairs else you'll be chasing CPUs of the same stepping all over the place :(
[12:53]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>kernels with SMP = working both CPUs in the same process/job ?
[12:53]<svjgngnwv>depends on the application
[12:57]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>do you think to its a good moment for buy hardware or is better to wait "windows vista" ? :) lol
[12:59]<svjgngnwv>duno...
[13:00]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>this is the shop where i buy hardware (belgium), do you think to it has good prices ? http://www.shscomputer.be/prix.php?idcat=CPUAMD
[13:00]<svjgngnwv>it's not in th UK I duno
[13:01]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>well, aparently windows vista needs a very powered computer... then "we" really need this hardware, maybe we have better hardware in a cheap price in a little time :)
[13:17]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>any link of morhterboards for servers prices ?
[13:32]<svjzc>when buying a sound card, should i go for retail or OEM?
[13:33]<svjgngnwv>retail... ;)
[13:33]<svjzc>aww okay
[13:33]<svjgngnwv>unless you are sure that the oem card is identical to the retail...
[13:34]<svjgngnwv>(I've been caught with the manu doesn't release drivers for the oem revision of the soundcard issue)
[13:34]<svjzc>yikes.
[13:35]<svjzc>damn, scan.co.uk ran out of DDR PC3200 512mb ram sticks :\
[13:37]<svjzc>hmm
[13:38]<svjzc>StoneNewt, is it a bad idea to have one 512MB stick and one 1024MB stick? (DDR PC3200)
[13:38]<lsd`>Stork: not really, no
[13:39]<svjgngnwv>Stork: in what?
[13:39]<svjzc>my compuper
[13:40]<svjgngnwv>erms... isn't that S939 dual core?...
[13:43]<lsd`>Thanatermesis: I'd suspect that most of todays gaming PCs have more than enough grunt for Vista, the subsystem it thrashes the most is the video and if a video card can handle most of todays games at relatively high dtail then Vista will be a walk in the park
[13:44]<lsd`>wb
[13:44]<svjzc>StoneNewt: in my compuper
[13:44]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>hum... this is true
[13:44]<svjgngnwv>erms... isn't that S939 dual core?...
[13:44]<svjzc>indeed it is StoneNewt
[13:44]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>well, maybe we have more than 4 slots for RAM thanks to vista then :D hehe
[13:44]<svjzc>X2 4200+ oc'ed a little bit
[13:44]<svjgngnwv>then you should match the dimms
[13:44]<svjzc>okay then
[13:44]<svjzc>corsair value select 512MB it is
[13:44]<vxzgzvnzdnsys>"epox" is good motherboards ?
[13:45]<svjgngnwv>that CPU is gonna easily get starved of mem I/O :(
[13:45]<svjzc>how do you mean StoneNewt ?
[13:45]<svjgngnwv>it can easily get limited by the speed of the memory
