[00:01]<zgmznwd>I have a dell here that won't power on.. I tested the PSU and it works. I thought the atx wiring might be bad so I tried using a paperclip to start it, but that didn't work either. The green light on the mobo does come on though.. do you guys think the mobo is bad or what?
[00:10]<srccrvx>lol
[00:11]<srccrvx>dell's suck
[00:11]<zgmznwd>yeah
[00:11]<srccrvx>reseat your memory and cpu maybe?
[00:11]<zgmznwd>i got it for free, so no big deal if i cant fix it
[00:11]<srccrvx>lol
[00:11]<srccrvx>make sure the extra 4pin 12v atx is plugged in?
[00:11]<srccrvx>(if it exists)
[00:11]<srccrvx>does it like not boot, or does it not powero n
[00:11]<srccrvx>as in like
[00:11]<srccrvx>does the cpu and stuff come on but nothing boots
[00:11]<srccrvx>or just nothing works
[00:12]<zgmznwd>it doesn't power on at all
[00:12]<srccrvx>hm
[00:12]<zgmznwd>i press the power button or jump the atx wiring.. nothing
[00:12]<zgmznwd>no fans, no drives, nothing
[00:12]<srccrvx>atx wiring? ;z
[00:12]<srccrvx>um
[00:12]<srccrvx>you mean crossing the jumpers on the front panel thing?
[00:12]<zgmznwd>yeah
[00:12]<srccrvx>you tried crossin all?
[00:12]<zgmznwd>yeah
[00:12]<srccrvx>well good try, thinkin the switch might be dead
[00:12]<srccrvx>that's what i was gonna say
[00:12]<srccrvx>got any other box to swap out some hw w/?
[00:13]<zgmznwd>no, i have all amd stuff
[00:13]<zgmznwd>so all i could test was ram and psu
[00:13]<zgmznwd>it would probably power on with bad ram though
[00:13]<srccrvx>ya at least fans
[00:13]<srccrvx>then just give youa noisy beep
[00:13]<srccrvx>lol
[00:13]<zgmznwd>yeah
[00:14]<srccrvx>you swap psu at all
[00:14]<srccrvx>or just bench it
[00:14]<zgmznwd>i swapped
[00:14]<srccrvx>nothin?
[00:14]<zgmznwd>yup
[00:14]<zgmznwd>did the same thing
[00:14]<srccrvx>:-s
[00:15]<srccrvx>you try reseating cpu?
[00:15]<zgmznwd>supposedly there was a power surge or something, but the mobo looks fine
[00:15]<zgmznwd>no, not yet
[00:15]<zgmznwd>guess i'll try that
[00:15]<srccrvx>do so :-\
[00:15]<srccrvx>not sure if it will help but
[00:15]<srccrvx>best to eliminate it as a possibility
[00:15]<srccrvx>no?
[00:15]<zgmznwd>yeah
[00:16]<srccrvx>lol.
[00:16]<srccrvx>+t ftw.
[00:22]<slcjd2>ChanServ: ops kplzthx
[00:22]<srccrvx>mee tooo
[00:22]<srccrvx>lol
[00:24]<zgmznwd>meh, still same thing
[00:28]<srccrvx>:s
[00:28]<srccrvx>idk man.
[00:28]<srccrvx>maybe someone else can help you better
[00:28]<srccrvx>sorry
[00:28]<zgmznwd>alright, thanks
[00:30]<srccrvx>dont think you wont get help
[00:30]<srccrvx>because i hardly know anythin about hw
[00:30]<srccrvx>im here for help myself
[00:30]<srccrvx>lol
[00:30]<zgmznwd>lol
[00:32]<dzzzjgpdznw1>Hello everyone. I'm a linux user that is helping out a windows friend. He's having what sounds like CPU scaling problems. Basically any time that he does anything, even booting, it seems to use up the CPU power incredibly quickly. That makes his sound skip if he is watching a video, and his explorer take forever to start, and even firefox takes 3 times as long to load as normal.
[00:32]<srccrvx>o.o
[00:35]<dzzzjgpdznw1>The computer in question is a laptop with a turion 1.93 ghz, and 512MB ram. It's running just above the bare installation, with no extras installed beyond the matroska codec pack, firefox, frostwire, and that's pretty much it.
[00:37]<dzzzjgpdznw1>anybody?
[00:38]<slcjd2>task manager doesn't show anything?
[00:38]<slcjd2>cool 'n quiet?
[00:43]<cgwdrg>does anyone here know anything about the Tomtom ONE gps device ?
[00:45]<dzzzjgpdznw1>what is cool and quiet? That is the mode for unplugged on AMD CPUs right?Any way I can access that, as it seems that might be the problem?
[00:46]<dzzzjgpdznw1>Task manager has bare processes running.
[00:47]<dzzzjgpdznw1>SpComb: I think it may be cool and quiet, How do I access that to turn it off?
[00:48]<slcjd2>cool 'n quiet is the thing that underclocks the cpu when not in use / on battery
[00:48]<dzzzjgpdznw1>SbComb: How do I access it?
[00:48]<slcjd2>not sure
[00:48]<slcjd2>probably a BIOS option and a windows driver
[00:49]<dzzzjgpdznw1>SbComb: Ah. I'll google it then. I'll be back if I can't find anything, or if it turns up that isn't the problem. Thanx.
[00:50]<slcjd2>well, I'll be gone soon
[00:52]<a2yzmarrnf>hello
[00:53]<a2yzmarrnf>i have 3 partitions on my harddrive, windows is on one of them, it seems to not be working so well latley, i may have dropped it recently, could just that 1 partition be messed up, or did i just mess up windows somehow, do yo uknow
[00:53]<dzzzjgpdznw1>alright, that's fine.
[00:53]<dzzzjgpdznw1>Thanks for your help SbComb.
[00:54]<a2yzmarrnf>i mean i dont know if its possible to have physically damaged 1 partition on the harddrive without effecting all of it
[00:55]<dzzzjgpdznw1>yes. It could be corrupted.\, which is fully possible without screwing the partition table.
[00:55]<dzzzjgpdznw1>brb
[01:52]<zgsv>damn I was trying to fix the mbr table with test disk, and now is even worse i think
[02:40]<nnw2ynmjj>Can someone help me figure out what power adapter I need to run a Microtech 100mb zip drive? I tried to find the information on their website but no such luck. On the back of their drive it says 5 volt, but I don't know what the wattage is. Fry's has a 5 volt for $16+ ouch. They have some 4.5 and 6 volt multis for $6.99, but again I don't know what the wattage is.
[02:42]<nnw2ynmjj>website is supposed to be www.microtech-pc.com, but the site doesn't have contact information
[02:42]<nnw2ynmjj>They may not be in business anymore
[02:49]<nwljsn>Newbiedoo: Why does the wattage matter?
[02:50]<nwljsn>Newbiedoo: just make sure you have 5V and the max. ampere of the psu you use is high enough.
[02:50]<nwljsn>there will be only as much money drawn as needed.
[02:51]<nwljsn>Newbiedoo: http://www.microtech-pc.com/ is not the website, i can hardly believe that
[02:51]<nwljsn>rather, it for sure isnt.
[03:11]<nnw2ynmjj>How do I know that the maximum ampere of the PSU is high enough?
[03:13]<nnw2ynmjj>anyone home?
