[06:34]<fcaw>Oops. Sorry, didn't mean to ask the same question in another channel you were on.
[06:34]<pfd2rac>avr is nice
[06:34]<pfd2rac>little 8 bit risc mcu
[06:34]<pfd2rac>very speedy
[06:38]<szzzz_>I don't get it... Is SuSe linux free, or do you have to pay for a copy?
[06:39]<szzzz_>Whoops, wrong channel
[06:40]<fcaw>Sarra_: OpenSuSe is, the Pro isn't
[06:40]<szzzz_>Ah, thanks
[06:40]<fcaw>and Novell want to charge for support
[06:42]<szzzz_>That won't be a problem
[06:42]<szzzz_>I'll run ISO's into VM Ware, and if I like it, I'll burn, partition, and install it
[06:43]<fcaw>Cool.
[06:43]<szzzz_>BBL
[06:43]<fcaw>:)
[06:52]<pfd2rac>http://www.eetimes.com/news/semi/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=192700709
[06:56]<szzzz_>Thanks for the link, flyback
[06:57]<szzzz_>Maybe I can buy a bunch of that and make a 4 gig SATA storage drive out of it
[06:59]<2zzmm2z>hi guys.. I have a motherboard that lets me enable raid in the bios.. is this form of raid supported by linux?
[07:36]<-- rfgw_yjggsru xrs>http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/ <- 3,400,000,000+ users can't be wrong")
[07:38]<svjzdsrrln>damn computer
[07:39]<svjzdsrrln>I can't enter my BIOS
[07:39]<svjzdsrrln>it just gives a flashing cursor
[07:46]<szzzz_>Have you done a reset? Move the jumper to Reset CMOS?
[08:39]<-- rfgw_yjggsru xrs>http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/ <- 3,400,000,000+ users can't be wrong")
[10:08]<rrvn>any recomendations on wlan usb adapters for linux?
[11:34]<svjggggwv>erms don't!
[11:34]<svjggggwv>get a PCI or PCMCIA card!
[14:06]<cjrgjulijw>hey, i've got this hard drive in my PC now, it used to be the primary drive, but after a while, it stopped working so we took it to the repair shop and the guy said that (translated from another language), the first sectors of the disk had been damaged, so it cant boot the OS anymore, and he replaced it with a fresh one (under warranty)
[14:06]<cjrgjulijw>but he never took the old HD out, its still in my computer, and it can be seen by windows
[14:06]<cjrgjulijw>apparantly its been partitioned too
[14:08]<cjrgjulijw>my question is: do you think this drive is still usable?
[14:08]<cjrgjulijw>i don't know if he ever formatted it, but a good portion of all our old files are still on here.
[14:08]<svjggggwv>CoRnJuLIOx: do a good surface scan on the drive!!
[14:09]<cjrgjulijw>ok. i'm trying that right now
[14:09]<svjggggwv>makesure it's /dev/hda not /dev/hda1 for instence!
[14:11]<cjrgjulijw>XP
[14:12]<svjggggwv>linux disk abstraction is much easer to spec exactly what you want than window's ;)
[14:13]<cjrgjulijw>ironically, the whole idea of me checking this disk is so i can install ubuntu on it :-O
[14:13]<svjggggwv>got a CD burner?
[14:13]<cjrgjulijw>got the cd already
[14:13]<cjrgjulijw>i've tried running it off the cd
[14:13]<cjrgjulijw>horribly slow
[14:17]<svjggggwv>RAM is good for that kinda thing,,,
[14:18]<cjrgjulijw>256 MB of PC-100 RAM :-( my computer is pathetic at this point
[14:18]<svjggggwv>offloading 1GB of CD into ram helps things imensly if you've got 2GB ot more
[14:18]<cjrgjulijw>its hard to believe that at one time, this PC was bleeding edge
[14:18]<svjggggwv>:( aww not good
[14:19]<svjggggwv>I've got an 800MHz R600 when it was release it was 'imposibly quick'
[14:19]<svjggggwv>now ultraportiables ship with 1.83GHz dual core CPUs!
[14:21]<cjrgjulijw>and quad SLI graphics :-)
[14:21]<svjggggwv>UPs don't do descrite graphics yet :p
[14:22]<svjggggwv>what gets me is this. people are going on about how laptops can equal desktops for gaming performance but actually they can't... cause you're stuck at that config... where with a PC it isn't too hard to turn something up a knotch or 5 if it gets to slow
[14:37]<gnvdrsc>hello
[14:38]<cjrgjulijw>sup
[14:40]<gnvdrsc>what coolers do you recommend for athlon 64 3000+? i'd prefer one with low rpm (to reduce noise)
[14:42]<cjrgjulijw>dunno much about coolers....i'd think you should go for a good copper one
[14:42]<cjrgjulijw>an all-copper one
[14:43]<gnvdrsc>hum... I was thinking about the zalman ones, but I don't know which one to choose...
[14:45]<svjggggwv>Zalman 7000B-Cu
[14:46]<svjggggwv>the 7700B-Cu can be fun on cerain mobos
[14:47]<gnvdrsc>why?
[14:48]<kyffgzdgdjg>netmask, use the stock cooler :)
[14:48]<gnvdrsc>KillerDemon: the stock cooler isn't enough... I'm getty 70-75C
[14:49]<kyffgzdgdjg>lol thats high
[14:49]<gnvdrsc>Stonenewt: just sawn my mobo doesn't show on the compat list
[14:49]<kyffgzdgdjg>a zalman wont do much better then a ams stock cooler
[14:49]<kyffgzdgdjg>*amd
[14:49]<cjrgjulijw>question: i have two computers connected to a router right now, how do i share a printer thats connected to one of the computers, and since i'm connected does that automatically mean i can play stuff like UT with the other computer?
[14:49]<kyffgzdgdjg>try a thermaltake netmask
[14:50]<gnvdrsc>KillerDemon: interesting suggestion... I had a tt for my old sempron, but it was too noisy
[14:50]<cjrgjulijw>netmask: think about water cooling?
[14:51]<kyffgzdgdjg>netmask the new thermaltakes are less noisy, and they make silent versions too
[14:51]<gnvdrsc>CoRnJuLIOx: I know nothign about water cooling, but I'm also afraid of it because I have cats at home :P
[14:52]<cjrgjulijw>shouldn't be a problem, unless you let your cats sleep inside your PC
[14:53]<svjggggwv>netmask: the 7700B-Cu is HUGE!
[14:53]<svjggggwv>problem with the compat lits is that it's only confirmed supporting mobos
[14:55]<kyffgzdgdjg>thermaltake makes ready-to-use watercooling too
[14:55]<kyffgzdgdjg>for not much money
[14:56]<gnvdrsc>CoRnJuLIOx: afaik, water cooling needs some conection to an external water pipe... isn't it?
[14:56]<cjrgjulijw>no
[14:56]<kyffgzdgdjg>you just fill it
[14:56]<cjrgjulijw>the kits that you buy come with internal resoirvoirs
[14:56]<kyffgzdgdjg>and clean the water once in a while
[14:56]<cjrgjulijw>and add coolant
[14:56]<cjrgjulijw>(optional)
[14:57]<gnvdrsc>hum
[14:57]<gnvdrsc>interesting
[14:57]<cjrgjulijw>indeed
[14:57]<cjrgjulijw>7700B-Cu doesn't look that huge
[14:57]<gnvdrsc>wow... water coolers are expensive...
[14:57]<cjrgjulijw>isn't it supposed to be a low-profile cooler?
[14:58]<kyffgzdgdjg>zalman chipset cooling sucks ass by the way
[14:58]<svjggggwv>CoRnJuLIOx: 7700B = 148mm dia!
[14:59]<cjrgjulijw>how many mm in one cm?
[14:59]<svjggggwv>10
[14:59]<svjggggwv>almost 15cm
[14:59]<cjrgjulijw>ok, that is big
