[11:26]<mzvymhkmzpjwnzs>i don't know why
[11:27]<20rv>"mix together"? Do you mean overflow? Maybe. You need to give the cells widths then.
[11:27]<20rv>Otherwise they stretch.
[11:28]<20rv>And I'm wondering if a table is even appropriate
[11:28]<mzvymhkmzpjwnzs>yes, mix means they coincide together
[11:29]<mzvymhkmzpjwnzs>i have given Hello a width="10" but it still stretch
[11:29]<2fygm>define it in your stylesheet
[11:30]<mzvymhkmzpjwnzs>what's the difference?
[11:32]<2fygm>one is in your stylesheet
[11:32]<2fygm>one is not
[11:32]<2fygm>O_o
[11:33]<2fygm>I don't know the technical explanation behind it, but in my experience, straight html markup is more of a "guideline" than a layout, and the page will break it if it sees fit.
[11:34]<mzvymhkmzpjwnzs>:( i think that html is more difficult than other programming languages, say, php, java
[11:34]<2fygm>lawl
[11:34]<2fygm>nope.
[11:34]<20rv>HTML is not a programming language.
[11:34]<2fygm>tis a markup language
[11:34]<mzvymhkmzpjwnzs>this language is more difficult than other languages
[11:35]<2fygm>have you tried chinese?
[11:36]<mzvymhkmzpjwnzs>i am
[11:36]<mrmfyfjv>heh
[11:37]<2fygm>Madpilot ftw.
[13:09]<gjss>bing badabom. im bored.
[13:12]<gjss>are there any browser security settings that will complain if i redirect a form post/get to another domain?
[13:13]<gjss>i just downloaded the 0.5Gb of compressed aol searches.
[13:14]<gjss>and felt motivated to monitor what my users search for, but still use google for searching
[13:41]<raymagc>hello - I have severe routing problems. Anyone who cannot access http://witte-consulting.com/ ? It should be impossible at least for AOL users.
[13:48]<znfraxs>i cant access the site, my ISP is AOL, right A O L
[13:48]<znfraxs>acidjnk
[13:58]<znm2frmns>Hi, I had a rather distubing thought.
[13:59]<znm2frmns>What will happen if I use a font like Trubuchet Ms, and my page is viewed on a Mac?
[13:59]<znm2frmns>Or, whenever the font is unavailable?
[13:59]<20rv>If they copied the font over, then whatever you styled to use it will show it.
[14:00]<mjzwzzm>redblades: Then they are Trubuchet Ms if its installed, and the next in the list if it isn't, until they hit the end of the list and revert to the default.
[14:00]<znm2frmns>Is it usually installed on Macs?
[14:00]<znm2frmns>And, if not, what is a similar looking font that will almost definately be?
[14:00]<20rv>It might come with MS Office.
[14:01]<znm2frmns>That's cool... (although I use OpenOffice 8p)
[14:02]<znm2frmns>(that was a face with a tongue sticking out, not OO version 8P
[14:02]<znm2frmns>Hee
[14:10]<raymagc>thx relachs
[14:11]<znfraxs>np
[14:35]<znm2frmns_>Hello?
[15:35]<sgjz>hi, if i have lots of <td></td> tags and want to make a "newline", enter, change row. How do i do it?
[15:35]<mjzwzzm>snor: You write a macro for your editor that convers a new line to a </tr><tr>
[15:36]<mjzwzzm>converts*
[15:36]<sgjz>dorward: great thanks didnt think of a macro :)
[16:12]<wg22gg>Does anuone know of anything with which to validate modular XHTML against an XML Schema
[16:13]<wg22gg>?
[16:14]<znysyj>ask #web
[16:18]<wg22gg>ah, this is strictly html4 ... thanks for the heads up :)
[16:19]<znysyj>no it's not that
[16:19]<znysyj>people in #web just generally know more about things like that
[16:20]<wg22gg>oh okay
[16:30]<ggmzr>lol imagine he goes to #web, asks the question and you answer him there :P
[16:56]<zjw>I have a random issue where someone using IE6.0 is gettiing some input boxes with yellow background yet no one else is, what would cause that?
[16:56]<zjw>is it todo with some kind of auto complete enabled on persons browser?
[16:57]<mjzwzzm>row: Google Toolbar informing the user that it can autocomplete.
[16:57]<zjw>ah
[16:57]<zjw>if I set background colour will google toolbar still do that?
[16:58]<mjzwzzm>row: Pretty sure it will
[17:00]<wg22gg>Dorward: Google Toolbar adds further autocompletion to the UAs autocompletion?
[17:01]<mjzwzzm>webben: Yes. Does IE do "Oh, this field looks like a name field, and my user entered their name on another website, its probably the same name here"?
[17:02]<wg22gg>Dorward: i don't know. I don't use IE except for occasional testing and browsing msdn.
[17:02]<mjzwzzm>webben: Ditto
[17:02]<wg22gg>i wonder if Google Toolbar pays attention to the autocomplete attribute
[17:02]<mjzwzzm>I hope not
[17:07]<zjw>ggrrrr
[17:08]<zjw>stepped in my bin while not looking and tripped over with a pint of water landing right on my laptop keyboard
[17:08]<zjw>lucky turned it upside down in time
[17:08]<eyaexj>Heh.
[17:09]<zjw>having one of those days
[17:11]<wg22gg>row: hope it gets better (your day, i mean)

[18:23]<xrrcr>troll maybe
[18:23]<mjzwzzm>row: Please don't feed the trolls.
[18:23]<xrrcr>fool.. um.. no
[19:20]<zzjcgg>can anyone help with some xml in here?
[19:21]<mjzwzzm>groken: I suspect its a bit off-topic for #html, you might try #web
[19:21]<zzjcgg>ok, ty
[20:42]<wrxfnn>i recall that char such as ~ in url needs to be encoded as hex i.e. %7E, but apparently the validator says ampersand should be encoded as &
[20:45]<mjzwzzm>xahlee: Some characters have special meaning or are forbidden in URLs and must be represented with %?? (~ isn't actually amoung them)
[20:45]<mjzwzzm>xahlee: Some characters (including &) have special meaning in HTML and have to be represented as &???;
[20:46]<mjzwzzm>xahlee: If you are writing a URL in HTML then you must first represent any special characters as %?? so its a real URL, then you must represent that URL in HTML by converting any characters that have special meaning in HTML.
