[20:29]<vyrn-vnzsr>Frazzled_Penguin: iptables -t nat -D POSTROUTING 1
[20:29]<vyrn-vnzsr>Frazzled_Penguin: iptables -t nat -nvL POSTROUTING only show one rule now?
[20:29]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>It just returned to the next line
[20:29]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>Yes
[20:30]<vyrn-vnzsr>any joy?
[20:31]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>I'm going to try right now, brb.
[20:32]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>Nope, :(
[20:32]<vyrn-vnzsr>what did you try?
[20:34]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>I plugged into the eth1 port, opened a browser and try to surf to google.com. Couldn't resolve it. tried to ping google.com recieved "Ping: unknown host" then I tried to ping the ip of google.com and 100% packet loss.
[20:35]<vyrn-vnzsr>Frazzled_Penguin: and the node you're doing this on is using the nat box as it's gateway correct?
[20:37]<vyrn-vnzsr>Frazzled_Penguin: plugged what into eth1, you just using a patch cable between the two nodes or something?
[20:38]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>Hey sweet! I must have made a mistake with the ip addy when trying to ping google by ip, cuz I tried it again and it worked!
[20:39]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>I've got my mac laptop plugged directly to eth1 via cable
[20:39]<vyrn-vnzsr>hehe, ya I always use 4.2.2.2
[20:39]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>then I just switch back to my wireless network to chat back here.
[20:40]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>:)
[20:40]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>Cool, well at least I've got outgoing internet traffic, I'm just not sure why dns isn't working.
[20:41]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>well I guess I should be able to specify the linux box as the dns server, I assume that should work, brb.
[20:41]<vyrn-vnzsr>Frazzled_Penguin: what have you set the box up to use?
[20:41]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>It's pulling the dns servers via dhcp
[20:43]<vyrn-vnzsr>Frazzled_Penguin: on the nat box right, what about the client workstation?
[20:43]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>right now, nothing is set. *blush
[20:43]<vyrn-vnzsr>:)
[20:44]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>brb, Going to try this again. :)
[20:47]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>hrm, on the client machine I used the ip address of the linux box (192.168.6.1) as the dns server but it still wont resolve. It doesn't come back with an error though, it just hangs...
[20:54]<tdbnzr>Frazzled_Penguin: net/ipv4/forward=1?
[20:55]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>Yup, that's active now. I've set the dns servers manually to the isp's dns servers and everything is now working. :D
[20:56]<vyrn-vnzsr>Frazzled_Penguin: you need to use dnsmasq package or such similar on the nat box
[20:56]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>ah, i see
[20:57]<frrrrfrm_prrruyr>Well, I've definately learned alot today. Thanks everyone for your help :)
