[00:00]<rrgjsvyr>Valken: it's ok :)
[00:00]<rrgjsvyr>synd`: Dunno but it has to be possible
[00:00]<rrgjsvyr>It's basically just an interface on top of Darwin right?
[00:00]<smgm`>agnostia: You can't "disable" Aqua and get, say, Platinum
[00:00]<smgm`>Like when people disable Luna or whatnot.
[00:00]<zyzxzzmp_>synd`: no, but it would be fucking helpful for those running OSX on older hardware
[00:00]<rrgjsvyr>synd`: What's Platinum?
[00:01]<vrfcgg>agnostia, found it...
[00:01]<vrfcgg>http://www.bash.org/?244321
[00:01]<vrfcgg>:D
[00:01]<rrgjsvyr>:D
[00:01]<smgm`>agnostia: OS 9's interface
[00:01]<smgm`>RichardP_: I run OS X on an iMac G3 500MHz and it doesn't need to be "dumbed down"
[00:01]<rrgjsvyr>Valken: That's awesome
[00:01]<vrfcgg>so, will I be allowed by apple to ask for disc replacment or other stuff as a ACLT ?
[00:01]<vrfcgg><AzureDiamond> awesome!
[00:02]<rrgjsvyr>synd`: Ofcourse you can't get Platinum as that won't even work on Darwin so?
[00:02]<smgm`>Hell, even Tiger ran *better* than Panther did on the iMac G3
[00:02]<mycn>i run os x on a dual 2.0 ghz imac and macbook. so ghetto
[00:02]<smgm`>agnostia: That's not my point
[00:02]<rrgjsvyr>synd`: But i'm sure it's possible to turn Aqua off
[00:02]<smgm`>agnostia: I've never seen a single example of that
[00:02]<wjgcgu>yes it is possible
[00:02]<rrgjsvyr>And just use the terminal of darwin
[00:02]<wjgcgu>but if you turn off aqua
[00:02]<mycn>from da streetz
[00:02]<zyzxzzmp_>synd`: im betting that OSX doesnt have Quartz acceleration enabled or coreimage
[00:02]<wjgcgu>you will have only a tty env
[00:02]<smgm`>RichardP_: Right, and neither does my iBook G4
[00:02]<zyzxzzmp_>synd`: just like you increase the specs for Vista, you get fancy stuff enabled
[00:03]<smgm`>But it's still Aqua
[00:03]<rrgjsvyr>synd`: Me either, but that kind of statement is bound to be disproven. As there's no way they can prevent you from turning off Aqua if you don't want to use it in an operatingsystem
[00:03]<wjgcgu>(look macosxhints for purpose about windowserver)
[00:03]<vrfcgg>Your right hand is... the one with the thumb on the left... but, first, make sure your thumbs are inside (oriented inside).
[00:03]<vrfcgg>:d
[00:03]<zyzxzzmp_>synd`: and just like vista, OSX will work on older hardware without those fancy bits
[00:03]<wjgcgu>yep osx works on my g3 500mhz ati 8MB
[00:03]<smgm`>RichardP_: But it is STILL Aqua
[00:03]<wjgcgu>i don't expect vista could run on a p3 500
[00:03]<wjgcgu>with an ati 8Mb
[00:03]<smgm`>RichardP_: You are not running Aero, are you?
[00:03]<zyzxzzmp_>who really gives a fuck except for trolls like you WHAT is actually providing the fucking interface?
[00:04]<rrgjsvyr>I don't see why you need to hate an operatingsystem
[00:04]<smgm`>My point is that Aero needs shit ton of resources to run
[00:04]<sjzanznzx>wonknu: it'll *run*
[00:04]<zyzxzzmp_>I mean, does it really matter to the end user what precisely is happening in the background? no
[00:04]<rrgjsvyr>Both Windows and Mac OS X has it's strong points, and purposes
[00:04]<wjgcgu>SorcererX, when i see windows xp...
[00:04]<vrfcgg>I had tiger on a g3 450 and I can insure you it was not fun at all. had to keep it for 3 months until I got my mac mini (intel). It has only 20GB hard drive, etc etc....
[00:04]<vrfcgg>really not nice.
[00:04]<wjgcgu>yes it will run, but incredibly slowly
[00:04]<zyzxzzmp_>synd`: yes, its still aero, just with certain features missing
[00:04]<cydyvrcr>Good afternoon all
[00:04]<mycn>windoze is laem </jk>
[00:04]<sjzanznzx>wonknu: WinXP *runs* with 20 MB RAM.
[00:04]<wjgcgu>lol so usable
[00:05]<rrgjsvyr>What does it matter anyway?
[00:05]<vrfcgg>ouh, I forget, had also "only" 384MB memory
[00:05]<rrgjsvyr>If you want to go low resource-usage, get a unix-like operatingsystem
[00:05]<kgzggfo7>Valken: i run tiger on a g3 333, runs fine there if you ask me
[00:06]<wjgcgu>Kernel86, have you tweak
[00:06]<wjgcgu>your xnu ?
[00:06]<smgm`>agnostia: Fuck that. I'd rather use Windows than something like Linux.
[00:06]<kgzggfo7>no
[00:06]<rrgjsvyr>synd`: Well then stop complaining about resource-usage :)
[00:06]<vrfcgg>I must also admit that the guy who prepared my box installed all apps my company has
[00:06]<wjgcgu>my main problem is my harddrive
[00:06]<wjgcgu>it decrease a lot the perf :(
[00:06]<rrgjsvyr>synd`: Vista will be easier on the cpu than Windows XP
[00:06]<vrfcgg>from ab menu, x menu, etc etc... to adobe, office, etc etc...
[00:06]<rrgjsvyr>synd`: As long as you have a competent graphics card
[00:06]<zyzxzzmp_>synd`: you have 4 different interfaces provided on Vista - Aero, Standard (aero without transparancies, window animations, flip3d etc and it still uyses the desktop compositing engine), Basic (aero with everything turned off) and Classic (aero in win2k/XP compat mode)
[00:06]<vrfcgg>now I am just going to use this box as a small shared drive
[00:07]<kgzggfo7>agnostia: thats not saying much for laptops, where it drains batteries like a bitch :-P
[00:07]<smgm`>RichardP_: And you have 1 (one) interface in OS X
[00:07]<zyzxzzmp_>synd`: Vista defaults to one of the first three, with the fourth an option
[00:07]<rrgjsvyr>Kernel86: Nah, won't drain too much to just run the interface on the gfx
[00:07]<zyzxzzmp_>synd`: oh go fuck yourself, dont listen
[00:07]<vrfcgg>so, anyone here knows how I can handle under warranty part replacment ?
[00:07]<kgzggfo7>agnostia: thats why vista drains so much more on lappies
[00:07]<vrfcgg>how can I get this authorization ?
[00:08]<rrgjsvyr>Kernel86: As far as I know, Aqua uses the graphics card?
[00:08]<zyzxzzmp_>agnostia: OSX doesnt do full window drawing on the graphics card
[00:08]<zyzxzzmp_>agnostia: Vista does
[00:08]<rrgjsvyr>Kernel86: Vista would probably just drain batteries on a laptop with a really bad graphics card that's not supposed to do 3D
[00:08]<kgzggfo7>yes of course
[00:08]<-- dvxn|syzzzyus xzs>http://www.bagdadsoftware.de")
[00:08]<rrgjsvyr>RichardP_: What's full window drawing?
[00:09]<kgzggfo7>but it's a fact right now that vista will drain you battery a lot faster than xp if you use areo
[00:09]<smgm`>I must commend Windows for the "productivity paradox" over the years, though
[00:09]<zyzxzzmp_>agnostia: the entire GUI is drawn by the graphics card, not by the processor
[00:09]<vrfcgg>actualy, my major problem with vista is it's licensing system.
[00:09]<rrgjsvyr>RichardP_: Yeah? Doesn't Aqua do that?
[00:09]<wnzwnsw1to>Is there a way to make iPod video read more standards besides .mp4 ? Also is it not so that you should be able to listen your iPod while it is being charged via the USB port?
[00:09]<vrfcgg>but I just heard that, for company they provide stuff like 1/1 (1 license bought, one usable for a collaborator).
[00:10]<zyzxzzmp_>agnostia: no, aqua does some stuff on the card, but does most of it on the processor
[00:10]<smgm`>agnostia: No, that's why Aqua can run quite well on older systems
[00:10]<rrgjsvyr>RichardP_: Ah. Well personally I think full-window drawing is good
[00:10]<rrgjsvyr>RichardP_: Would be good if you could alternate though
[00:10]<svunnnm>scuze the pun but tulane is one fucked up university or at least some of the administartion there
