[00:00]<smgm`>lewiz: What are you trying to run Aperture on?
[00:00]<fnwye>synd`: It might be called a Hackintosh. Trying to get a feel for the whole OS. But it's a dual core 2.66GHz P4 with 2GB of RAM.
[00:01]<smgm`>Oh, jeez.
[00:01]<fnwye>synd`: The actual processing was fairly fast... just the UI that was slow.
[00:01]<smgm`>Reminds me of the kid in my class who has OS X running on a ThinkPad.
[00:01]<pzjjmyrg>lewiz: get the fuck out
[00:01]<smgm`>I regret not *accidentally* knocking it off his desk
[00:02]<zjzw>the lazy linking and dynamic runtime of Obj-C will make it a bit slower than something with Carbon/C.
[00:02]<zznd->Chousuke: http://www.beatnikpad.com/archives/2006/06/04/firefox-1504
[00:02]<cxjusucn>lewiz: You might save yourself by apologising immediately. Heh :P
[00:02]<cxjusucn>grey-: hmm.
[00:02]<fnwye>froodian: Heh, why? I can't afford to splash out $lots on a MbP without knowing it suits my needs first, right?
[00:02]<zznd->synd`: dude, I would've swiped it, not broken in.
[00:02]<pzjjmyrg>lewiz: fuck you
[00:02]<zjzw>froodian: quit it
[00:02]<pzjjmyrg>sorry
[00:02]<zznd->OSX on thinkpad > shittyapplehardwarew/oclit.
[00:02]<zznd->thinkpad = clit + two button mouse!
[00:03]<zsgnmmnzs>lewiz: irrelevant. you've still broken the law.
[00:03]<pzjjmyrg>lewiz: I apologize, i'll be more friendly to worthless crackers in the future
[00:03]<smgm`>grey-: I prefer the clits on my woman :(
[00:03]<zznd->synd`: I can't get enough clits.
[00:03]<zznd->I AM THE CLIT COMMANDER!
[00:04]<pzjjmyrg>haha
[00:04]<smgm`>Optimized Firefox for Mac?
[00:04]<cgzsdjgcq>heh, i was waiting for that
[00:04]<smgm`>Oh, right. Because Mozilla couldn't get it right the first time.
[00:04]<cgzsdjgcq>jay and silent bob reference, right??
[00:04]<zznd->kersmonk2: yup
[00:04]<fnwye>gsnedders: Hmm, you're right. Not that it is any defence, but I'm just trying to get a feel for it. I don't mind buying an Intel Mac when they come out in non laptop form. But I want to know if it's good for me ;)
[00:04]<cgzsdjgcq>woot!
[00:04]<smgm`>lewiz: There are 2 Intel Macs in non-notebook form
[00:05]<pzjjmyrg>lewiz: they already have non laptop intel macs
[00:05]<smgm`>Mac mini and iMac
[00:05]<fnwye>synd`: Mac Mini is too slow for image editing and an iMac isn't compatible with my dual monitor setup.
[00:05]<pzjjmyrg>lewiz: I didn't know if I liked money, so I robbed a bank. I have no trouble with getting a job, but I wanted to make sure that I liked money first
[00:05]<smgm`>lewiz: I've got my iMac doing a tri-monitor setup before
[00:06]<cxjusucn>grey-: heh. cool :P
[00:06]<fnwye>synd`: Really? How does that work? Will it do dual DVI?
[00:06]<cxjusucn>grey-: too bad it's only a superficial change.
[00:06]<sfrmn>excellent
[00:06]<sfrmn>keep going
[00:06]<sfrmn>HARDER!!
[00:06]<smgm`>lewiz: Nope, not dual-DVI
[00:07]<fnwye>froodian: Hmm. I don't think your argument is quite right. But rest assured I *will* buy a fast Mac when they come out, if I can last another week with this one ;)
[00:07]<smgm`>Yeah. Trash that P4 and get a *real* Intel.
[00:07]<fnwye>synd`: Oh, that's a bit annoying. Admittedly I'm running right now with DVI+RGB and it's actually okay. But the Minis don't have too much space for storage and other stuff.
[00:08]<smgm`>lewiz: I always put my Mini on an external drive (which it boots from too)
[00:08]<smgm`>The internal drive is too slow and too small, I agree.
[00:08]<fnwye>synd`: How did you do multiple displays then?
[00:09]<zrmznwrud>Anyone know off hand if Mac The Ripper is UB?
[00:10]<smgm`>lewiz: I can't remember the name of the gadget I used
[00:10]<smgm`>I'm trying to Google it
[00:10]<fnwye>synd`: Ohh... was it that thing you plug in and you can then plug three monitors into?
[00:11]<smgm`>lewiz: Yes, I believe
[00:11]<smgm`>andrewguy: I know that Handbrake is
[00:11]<fnwye>synd`: Ah, they look good... but I figured it showed up to the OS as a single display, so you can't maximise stuff, etc.
[00:12]<smgm`>lewiz: I can't remember if mine did or not
[00:12]<dzzydns>mac the ripper 3.0 beta is universal, but not the current stable release
[00:12]<zrmznwrud>cool thanks, didn't wanna check version tracker figured someone would know offhand. I'm buying a MacBook friday
[00:12]<zrmznwrud>:D
[00:12]<smgm`>Handbrake > MacTheRipper
[00:13]<zrmznwrud>synd`: really, how so?
[00:14]<zyzxzzmp_>mgrimes: is it stil lfree?
[00:14]<smgm`>andrewguy: I've just had much better success with Handbrake
[00:14]<vxadrsan>is their some standard ssl support in osx which can be reset?
[00:14]<zyzxzzmp_>thomasje: huh?
[00:14]<fnwye>Oh, I know. Anybody know a good mail client that has IMAPS support (and maybe some integration with the other stuff). Can't be Mail.app because it can't thread messages properly.
[00:15]<zrmznwrud>synd`: I've personally had no problems with Mac the Ripper but I'm gonna try out Handbrake. Downloading now.
[00:15]<vxadrsan>yeah my ssl seems to not work anymore in xchat
[00:15]<dzzydns>RichardP_: dunno i use handbrake
[00:16]<fnwye>andrewguy: I ripped a DVD with Handbrake yesterday and I found out it had skipped all of the B frames. Must have been something I did, but it wasn't obvious at the time.
[00:16]<zyzxzzmp_>mgrimes: i just want something that will extract the main title with english 5.1, because i have my own mencoder scripts for the hard stuff
[00:17]<dzzydns>yeah i'm glad i bought this philips dvp642 -- just d/l, burn and play downstairs on the tv
[00:18]<smgm`>That's a sweet player
[00:18]<vxadrsan>philips roooocccckkkkssss
[00:18]<dzzydns>can't beat the price -- $60
[00:19]<smgm`>Plays every damn thing you can throw at it
[00:19]<sfrmn>if i throw myself on it, will it play me?
[00:19]<smgm`>Probably
[00:22]<cxjusucn>It makes sense?
[00:22]<fnwye>synd`: Heh. That's not an OS X "invention". ^Q and ^W have been around for ages ;)
[00:22]<smgm`>You have a ton of windows open for a certain app on XP. You have you press alt-F4 a number of times until every window is closed for the app to close
[00:22]<fnwye>synd`: No, that's ctrl-F4 to close a window.
[00:22]<cxjusucn>Then again, it's pretty easy to typo Cmd-W
[00:23]<fnwye>synd`: Although you might be right. Recently some Windows apps seem to have forgotten about ctrl-F4.
[00:23]<fnwye>^W and ^Q are better anyway.
[00:23]<smgm`>lewiz: Most apps use alt-F4 to close the window
[00:23]<cxjusucn>though easier to typo
[00:23]<cxjusucn>:P
[00:23]<cxjusucn>Usually it doesn't matter though
[00:23]<smgm`>I've not seen one app use alt-F4 to entirely quit the application
[00:24]<fnwye>How do you alt+TAB through the different windows of an open programme, anyway?
[00:24]<smgm`>lewiz: alt-`
[00:24]<smgm`>Erm
[00:24]<smgm`>cmd-`
[00:24]<cxjusucn>You and your weird layouts
[00:25]<fnwye>synd`: Ah, okay. That works pretty well. Can you do it from the cmd-TAB list there? It's really unfriendly with multiple terminals.
[00:25]<fnwye>Chousuke: Nah, it's me. I'm using a Windows keyboard so it's not really alt :P
[00:25]<cxjusucn>no, I mean cmd-`
