[00:00]<fuysyvj>+I'll be back in some weeks connected with my macbook.
[00:00]<zyzxzzmp>+heh
[00:00]<dzugcgg|bsd>-david eddings is okay.. they released the compilation versions of the main series.. 4 volumes for everything
[00:00]<zyzxzzmp>+what do people recommend for good scifi?
[00:01]<dzugcgg|bsd>-I'm running Win2k->VMWare->WinVistaB2->PuTTY->FreeBSD x_x :D
[00:03]<dzugcgg|bsd>-Time to shut off the PC.. getting too hot in here
[00:06]<dzugcggdjguv>+well, that was "fun"
[00:10]<dzzygg>+it's getting hot in here
[00:10]<dzzygg>+so shut down your windows
[00:13]<dzugcggdjguv>+F$*king thing BSOD on shutdown AGAIN -_-;
[00:14]<sxzzcxzv>+RichardP: that intel core duo monitor tells you current cpu speed also
[00:18]<sxzzcxzv>+i dont see how the imac can remain so cool without the least bit noise, even after running full buck for a weekend, no fan noise or anything
[00:18]<sxzzcxzv>+while the notebooks are getting close to 80 C
[00:18]<sxzzcxzv>+sure, smaller case, but... jeeze
[00:19]<xasv>+RichardP: read john le carré; tinker tailor soldier spy, and smiley's people are *excellent*
[00:19]<xasv>+just finished re-reading them
[00:20]<fuysyvj>+RichardP: another question: what about the battery time?
[00:20]<sxzzcxzv>+that is what i am wondering, i get insane times out of my 1.5 ghz 12 inch power book
[00:21]<sxzzcxzv>+over 4 hours under normal use, about 5.5 hours really babying the settings, and just udner two hours playing world of warcraft
[00:22]<fuysyvj>+sharkhat: yep, the g4's gives a lot of battery time
[00:22]<mgvjgsvw6>+sharkhat: I get five out of my iBook
[00:22]<mgvjgsvw6>+sharkhat: No matter what I do
[00:22]<sxzzcxzv>+and for a notebook, what else is the most important feature?
[00:22]<sxzzcxzv>+nothing if you ask me
[00:22]<sxzzcxzv>+devonst17: every play world of warcraft on it?
[00:22]<fuysyvj>+I hope this macbooks to be something like that
[00:22]<sxzzcxzv>+or unreal tournament 2k4
[00:22]<mgvjgsvw6>+sharkhat: Why would I want to loose my soul to that game?
[00:22]<sxzzcxzv>+lol
[00:22]<mgvjgsvw6>+sharkhat: Yea, I tried UT2004 once, but it froze my system
[00:22]<sxzzcxzv>+to replace it with a level 60 druid soul
[00:23]<sxzzcxzv>+lol
[00:23]<sxzzcxzv>+those games make battery life disapear
[00:23]<mjvyvn>+then plug it in..
[00:23]<sxzzcxzv>+they run the GPU at full tilt
[00:23]<sxzzcxzv>+on this imac intel, i cant even get the fans to the point where i can hear them
[00:24]<fuysyvj>+I don't play
[00:24]<sxzzcxzv>+and by using the powerbook as a 100 gig ipod, it lasts about 7.5 hours
[00:24]<sxzzcxzv>+err 6.5
[00:25]<fuysyvj>+well RichardP have a macbook but it seems to be away
[00:25]<xasv>+sharkhat: really? I have a g5 imac, and while the fans don't spin much I can hear them on 'idle'
[00:26]<sxzzcxzv>+hjst: yea we have 2 imac g5's here.. you can hear the fans on those kinda ticking..
[00:26]<sxzzcxzv>+even on idle
[00:26]<fuysyvj>+I don't care about hearing the fans as long as the don't sound like a vacuum cleaner
[00:26]<sxzzcxzv>+like the powermac g5, when you take off the plastic shield inside?
[00:27]<xasv>+I put an ubuntu live cd in my powermac in the office today and it made more noise booting than I've ever heard it make under osx
[00:27]<sxzzcxzv>+list doesnt support the fan functionality,
[00:27]<xasv>+but then I guess linux doesn't have the fan control code that osx has
[00:28]<sxzzcxzv>+the best linux distro to make macs little features work is yellowdog linux
[00:28]<fuysyvj>+how does photoshop works on the mackbook
[00:28]<fuysyvj>+?
[00:28]<xasv>+it sounded like an airplane taking off, I'm glad I run osx on it
[00:29]<xasv>+luisito: I imagine it works the same as it normally does, except that it runs under rosetta so it's a bit slower
[00:29]<mjvyvn>+i run PS cs and it works fine.. the slightest bit slow starting but not that bad
[00:29]<sxzzcxzv>+http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/support/hardware/breakdown/
[00:30]<fuysyvj>+Motive: so you think it can be faster than an ATHLON XP 2000+ desktop with 256MB Video and 1GB RAM. (as my machine is)
[00:31]<mgfygcr>+anyone ever heard their /CPU/? I have a PowerBook G4 and I swear in a quiet room I can hear a slight scritching noise that changes slightly depending on activity ...
[00:31]<mgfygcr>+... or did my cereal taste funny today?
[00:32]<xasv>+delinka: disk read/writes? I doubt it's the CPU - no moving part
[00:32]<xasv>+s
[00:32]<sxzzcxzv>+luisito: a mac mini would be faster than that computer
[00:34]<mgfygcr>+hjst: electrical transformers don't have moving parts and they make noise - not the disks, the sound can change with mouse movement (and goes back to the original sound when the mouse stops) - I suspect electrical/magnetic somethings cause the noise
[00:35]<xasv>+delinka: fair point, although I've heard my powerbook's noise fluctuate like that
[00:35]<xasv>+maybe I'm not listening :)
[00:36]<xasv>+I've *not* heard...
[00:36]<mgfygcr>+I starting detecting such noises about the time pentiums started showing up in laptops
[00:36]<v2j>+that is so sad, only in the final match Germany vs. England is possible :-(
[00:36]<xasv>+tbo: aye
[00:36]<mgfygcr>+I can't be 100% sure it's CPU, but I /think/ it is
[00:37]<xasv>+I really thought we had that match won after our second goal
[00:37]<xasv>+I lost £5 on that... :(
[00:38]<v2j>+maybe, we get that and then we get finaly a new goal for years of discussion like the famous goal of wembley in 1966
[00:42]<nwp>-hjst: russia house is pretty good too
[00:44]<xasv>+e1f: cool, I'm reading constant gardener at the moment, and looking for more le carré stuff
[00:44]<xasv>+the tv series with alec guiness are *genius*
[00:44]<xasv>+shame he popped his clogs before they could film any more
[00:45]<nwp>-did you know that tinker tailor was a personal attack on philby?
[00:45]<xasv>+yeah, le carreé worked with him right?
[00:46]<nwp>-le carre was one of the agents whose cover was blown when philby defected
[00:46]<xasv>+or knew him, I seem to recall reading that somewhere
[00:46]<xasv>+ouch
[00:46]<xasv>+an understandable attack
[00:46]<xasv>+tinker tailor is my favourite so far I think
[00:47]<nwp>-the mole in tinker tailor has the same number of syllables in his name as "philby"
[00:47]<nwp>-the other suspect with a two syllable name is "smiley"
[00:47]<nwp>-but we know he's not the mole :)
[00:48]<xasv>+but come one, quite a few of the main characters have 2 syllable names
[00:48]<nwp>-i have the dvds of tinker tailor and smiley's people
[00:48]<xasv>+ditto
[00:48]<nwp>-no, they dont
[00:48]<xasv>+they are *ace*
[00:48]<nwp>-only the protagonist and the antagonist have 2 syllable names
[00:49]<xasv>+actually you're correct. haydo *is* the only 2 syllable name
[00:49]<nwp>-"philby" and "cornwell" (carre's real name) are 2 syllable names :)
[00:49]<xasv>+haydon
[00:50]<xasv>+I should really watch those again, it's been too long
[00:50]<nwp>-i ordered the syriana dvd (it came today) and the book it was based on (see no evil)
[00:50]<xasv>+"There are three of them, and Alleline"
[00:50]<nwp>-will be reading it soon
[00:51]<gunsvt70>-can you use a 2 botton mouse on a mac
