[00:06]<azafyvn>IS there a way to push display video out through firewire?
[00:06]<iandat6w>Arclite: don't think so
[00:08]<ndns>Arclite: would require some serious h4x0ring
[00:08]<iandat6w>firewire to vga or s-video.. not possible, firewire to digital.. its possible but I don't think there are any solutions yet
[00:08]<-- rfgw_yjggsru xrs>http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/ <- 3,400,000,000+ users can't be wrong")
[00:09]<azafyvn>I've got a Dazzle box to convert firewire to composite. Problem is, I want to be able to pump my display video to that box, then have the box convert it to composite.
[00:11]<zyzxzzmp_>the display video is in no way linked to firewire
[00:12]<zyzxzzmp_>you would have to install a custom video driver
[00:12]<zyzxzzmp_>do all the compositing and layering etc in software
[00:12]<zyzxzzmp_>and hand it off to firewire, which doesnt have enough bandwidth to do much...
[00:14]<wnffd>RichardP_: so what are you trying to say? not possible?
[00:15]<zyzxzzmp_>very hard to do
[00:15]<wnffd>lol
[00:17]<zjzw>Well, there are video cards that do this, they have Y/C output
[00:17]<azafyvn>Thanks. Didn't think it was possible, but dad didn't believe me. :P
[00:18]<zjzw>And, Apple makes Y/C adapters for some models, models made in the last few years.
[00:18]<azafyvn>Yeah.
[00:18]<zyzxzzmp_>a 1024x768x32 display at 75hz would require 225MBytes bandwidth
[00:19]<azafyvn>They don't have a VGA-composite, unfortunatley.
[00:19]<zyzxzzmp_>rorx: Y/C?
[00:19]<zjzw>RichardP_: another name for S-Video
[00:19]<zyzxzzmp_>rorx: yeah but thats straight off the video port tho
[00:21]<zjzw>Arclite: what do you mean not VGA compatible, they can do both digital and analog on DVI-I no?
[00:21]<azafyvn>VGA to composite, is what I'm saying.
[00:22]<zjzw>I think those adapters do both Y/C and composite.
[00:22]<azafyvn>rorx, yeah, they do, but they don't have one with a VGA half.
[00:22]<zjzw>and if not, you can get a Y/C-composite adapter
[00:22]<zysa>fuck ipods are shit, my 5G just died.... every single ipod I've ever owned has needed to be fixed or replaced
[00:22]<zyzxzzmp_>yes, Apple have adapters to output both Svid and Comp from the VGA port
[00:22]<azafyvn>They have DVI, mini DVI, and mini VGA, but I haven't see a VGA.
[00:23]<zyzxzzmp_>are we guilty of answering the question posed, rather than fulfilling the underlying requirement? :)
[00:23]<zyzxzzmp_>Arclite: what mac is it?
[00:23]<azafyvn>Quicksilver G4.
[00:23]<zjzw>Arclite: VGA half?
[00:23]<zjzw>Arclite: you mean an HD-15 plug?
[00:23]<zysa>work calls have fun all
[00:24]<azafyvn>Crap, I've got the wrong connector type in mind.
[00:24]<azafyvn>Never mind, fixed.
[00:25]<zjzw>hmm, ok.
[00:30]<sczrdx>hi all
[00:30]<sczrdx>i am back
[00:57]<sczrdx>Caius: still around
[00:57]<cryus>aye
[00:57]<sczrdx>i did the links...
[00:57]<cryus>just about to close the terminal though heh
[00:57]<sczrdx>and i try to start itunes and it doesnt work
[00:58]<sczrdx>i guess it doesnt matter since its going to be vnc onluy
[00:58]<cryus>SkramX: guy with external HD?
[00:58]<sczrdx>but how do i copy all the configurations?
[00:58]<cryus>oh, multi user guy?
[00:58]<sczrdx>No.. user switching so I can run VNC on another computer and have dual monitor
[00:58]<sczrdx>yeah
[00:58]<cryus>copy the prefs across from ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist
[00:59]<sczrdx>ok
[00:59]<cryus>from the working account to the new account :)
[00:59]<sczrdx>can i copy all of library?
[00:59]<cryus>you could, as long as its _copied_ and not symlinked
[00:59]<sczrdx>how do i copy directories?
[00:59]<rgmygyus>Still yummy though
[01:00]<sczrdx>mark-s-computer:~ mark$ cp Library/* /Users/mark2/Library/ -R
[01:00]<sczrdx>right?
[01:00]<cryus>if you're in ~ then yes
[01:00]<sczrdx>it says it isnt copying direcotores
[01:00]<cryus>and its better to put cp -R ~/Library/* /Users/mark2/Library iirc
[01:00]<sczrdx>and when i do -R it tells me usage
[01:00]<sczrdx>hmm
[01:00]<cryus>cp dir dir -R might not do it
[01:01]<sczrdx>you are right
[01:01]<sczrdx>okay
[01:01]<sczrdx>thanks
[01:01]<pnvnz66>is it possible to customize OS X?
[01:01]<sczrdx>works in real Linux
[01:01]<sczrdx>haha
[01:01]<cryus>yup, you normally have to put the argument before the directories with most commands
[01:02]<sczrdx>ok
[01:02]<sczrdx>copying now
[01:02]<sczrdx>anything else?
[01:02]<sczrdx>does that include my doc information, etc.?
[01:03]<dznzdnz>Peter77: wanna clarify that a little?
[01:03]<cryus>SkramX: all your preferences, plus all app plugins, etc in ~/Library
[01:04]<pnvnz66>dreamer: is it possible to alter the window decorations, inactive window transparancy etc?
[01:04]<sczrdx>ok thanks
[01:04]<dznzdnz>it's probably possible to alter inactive window transparency. it's definitely possible to alter window decorations. but short of changing them with uno (gui.interacto.net) you need to use shapeshifter, which has a poor reputation amongst many
[01:05]<pnvnz66>oh so OS X doesn't support that itself?
[01:05]<dznzdnz>Peter77: not natively, no
[01:05]<zjzw>nope, that's why it's a bad idea.
[01:05]<cryus>Peter77: sure, go edit the img files in each app and /System
[01:06]<dznzdnz>but then, windows doesn't really either
[01:06]<dznzdnz>uno > * anyway
[01:06]<ffjwnz2zunz>in windows it's as simple as patching one dll
[01:07]<sczrdx>what about Terminal.app and preference pane settings?
[01:07]<cryus>head of msft == programmer, head of apple == designer ;)
[01:07]<sczrdx>:\
[01:07]<ggrfrvgm>head of my cock = in your mom
[01:07]<ggrfrvgm>KEKEKEKEKE
[01:07]<sczrdx>heh
[01:13]<sczrdx>Caius: still there?
[01:13]<sczrdx>when i log out of user2, vnc dies
[01:13]<cryus>aye
