[00:02]<lzllnz>Excuse me, I think I've forgotten how to access Mac OSX's software restore feature.
[00:07]<dzzydns>Lapper: man asr
[00:08]<wnzwnsw1to>barathron, dude are you there ?
[00:08]<2zzzvxzjg>I am
[00:09]<2zzzvxzjg>did it work?
[00:09]<wnzwnsw1to>did you finish it >
[00:09]<wnzwnsw1to>barathron, I couldnt open the eps
[00:09]<2zzzvxzjg>too bad
[00:09]<wnzwnsw1to>did you do the adjustments ?
[00:09]<2zzzvxzjg>then why bother having me do all that?
[00:09]<2zzzvxzjg>no
[00:09]<2zzzvxzjg>I just converted and sent
[00:09]<2zzzvxzjg>no seense in changes if it doesn't work
[00:09]<lzllnz>mgrimes: That's probably what I'm looking for, but is there a graphical way? A utility?
[00:10]<2zzzvxzjg>you're welcome by the way xerxes1358
[00:12]<rjr2>how much memory would one need on a macbook? i'm thinking either 1 GB or maybe 2 GB. can anyone share some insight?
[00:12]<rjr2>i might want to run parallels once in a while
[00:13]<tjznd>2GB is always better
[00:13]<tjznd>(:
[00:13]<lzllnz>I've seen tests that indicate anything over a gig is virtually worthless, because of how shallow the curve gets after 1.
[00:13]<rjr2>yeah but do you actually need it?
[00:13]<sxzzcxzv>Lapper: what backwards tests were those?
[00:13]<dzzydns>Lapper: that's complete bs
[00:13]<sxzzcxzv>if you like to run more than 2 apps at once, get more ram. never have enough
[00:14]<lzllnz>I don't know.
[00:14]<rjr2>i have 1.25 GB in my powerbook now... but since the macbook has shared graphics memory i should need at least 1 GB, right?
[00:14]<sxzzcxzv>i run out with 2 gigs on this imac
[00:14]<sxzzcxzv>run safari, and parallels and right there is half.. lol
[00:14]<dzzydns>joab: at least
[00:15]<dzzydns>joab: you'll see noticable performance increase between 1 and 2 gigs on a system with shared video mem
[00:15]<rjr2>mgrimes: when will i see those increases?
[00:15]<rjr2>running many applications?
[00:15]<dzzydns>joab: assuming like most you game
[00:15]<sxzzcxzv>safari alone right now is taking 521 mb of ram.. excl taking 181
[00:15]<dzzydns>any graphics intensive app
[00:16]<rjr2>i thought you didn't game on the macbook?
[00:16]<dzzydns>joab: ?
[00:16]<rjr2>since it has shared graphics
[00:16]<sxzzcxzv>http://www.pims.math.ca/knotplot/KnotPlot.html <== not a game.. but graphics intensive
[00:17]<dzzydns>ahh my powerbook has been initiated into real fed work... /me stares at unclassified sticker on his pb
[00:19]<ggrfrvgm>lol
[00:19]<pnvnz66_>so u can get mac os x on pc if u use vnc
[00:25]<zyzxzzmp_>mgrimes: oooh give me ssh access!
[00:25]<dzzydns>heh unclass is synonymous with uninteresting :)
[00:26]<pznmfn>vnc does the trick.. but you won't be running it on the pc.. just controll it.. remote... I hate remote controll in graphical mode
[00:26]<zyzxzzmp_>mgrimes: yes but with ssh access i can install the uber r00tk1t for when you go Top Secret
[00:27]<dzzydns>i am already TS ;)
[00:27]<zyzxzzmp_>you are? are we allowed to know you exist?
[00:27]<dzzydns>of course :)
[00:28]<cryus>RichardP_: you actually think his real name is Mark Grimes?
[00:28]<dzzydns>nothing classified happens on any accessible channel :)
[00:28]<pznmfn>oh boy
[00:28]<zyzxzzmp_>Caius: No, I always thought him more as a 'Pussy Galore'
[00:28]<cryus>RichardP_: damn right
[00:28]<dzzydns>heh
[00:28]<zyzxzzmp_>yes please!
[00:29]<zyzxzzmp_>if you are offering
[00:29]<dzzydns>RichardP_: my goal in life is to do the least amount of classified work possible... it's a real pain in the ass operating in such an environment
[00:29]<dzzydns>what goes in, doesn't come out
[00:30]<dzzydns>not even cd-r's are allowed to come back out
[00:32]<ljjlsdyvx>Mark Grimes is far too unbelievable a name.
[00:32]<ljjlsdyvx>It reminds me of a grease pencil.
[00:32]<ljjlsdyvx>You know, marking someone with grime.
[00:32]<ljjlsdyvx>Total joke.
[00:32]<ljjlsdyvx>His real name can't possibly be that.
[00:37]<sxzzcxzv>i know someone named develin
[00:38]<sxzzcxzv>that is always his screen name, and it is never taken
[00:38]<sxzzcxzv>http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/06/arts/design/06worl.html?ex=1283659200&en=7053c2e95380c600&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss
[00:39]<sxzzcxzv>lol so world of warcraft has been in business, sports, and now arts section of the NYT
[00:39]<ljjlsdyvx>I know someone named Develin, also.
[00:39]<cryus>I know of a devvo
[00:43]<sxzzcxzv>whip it good?
[00:43]<zyzxzzmp_>any of you watch House MD?
[00:43]<ljjlsdyvx>No
[00:44]<cryus>yes
[00:44]<sxzzcxzv>sorry RichardP_ too much drama without the scifi to keep me there (see star trek)
[00:44]<cryus>RichardP_: just finished watching the second series last week in fact
[00:47]<cryus>damn I'm stupid, ITV was showing a picture labelled "hidden camera" and I thought "they haven't hidden it very well, I can see what the camera sees"
[00:48]<pznmfn>lol... dumbass
[00:49]<zyzxzzmp_>Caius: Im watching Season 1 and 2 atm
[00:49]<cryus>RichardP_: :O series II isn't on brit tv ;)
[00:50]<zyzxzzmp_>its on BT tho...
[00:50]<cryus>;)
[00:50]<zyzxzzmp_>it goes via them
[00:50]<cryus>aww poor you
[00:51]<cryus>I hate BT internet with a passion
[00:52]<zyzxzzmp_>hate to tell you this, but your internet connection goes via them as well
[00:52]<wanzcd>"diskutil resizevolume" is supposed to be able to grow and shrink HFS+ partitions now, but I can only seem to shrink them, growing fails with an obscure error. I would think that growing a partiion should be easier than shrinking one, no?
[00:52]<sxzzcxzv>sign me up for one hoo-gie
[00:56]<mrn000>hey guys, what exactly does the CPU option "Allow Nap" do on a G4 ?
[00:56]<mrn000>(in SysPrefs)
[00:57]<mrn000>I mean in detail.. if anyone knows
[00:58]<zyzxzzmp_>da9000: allows the cpu to do nothing
[00:58]<zyzxzzmp_>not even a NOOP
[00:58]<pznmfn>nap.. sleep ;-)
[00:58]<sajvnly>hello, how can i make a hiden user? basicly i want to put a back dore user that cant be seen from the acounts panel
[00:58]<mrn000>RichardP_, so basically a hardware sleep, not a software (nop)
