[17:55]<vzzrjfzr>does netbsd have console framebuffer, like there is in gnu/linux?
[17:56]<xdlgj>actually, there is.
[17:56]<xdlgj>at least on i386.
[17:56]<iggns>hypno: -v
[17:56]<vzzrjfzr>reall :)
[17:56]<xdlgj>Innes: +xyz?
[17:57]<iggns>hypno: i meant verbose please
[17:57]<vzzrjfzr>hypno, so when kernel is loading it will appear as nice/small text ? :)
[17:57]<auxn>And will it have a little devil in top left corner? :-)
[17:58]<iggns>hypno: with -v i did want to express that i am curious and would like to ask you for more information on fb
[17:58]<vzzrjfzr>;)
[17:58]<rflxrwrvns>Innes> during your absence there where bans...
[17:59]<xdlgj>well, it's basic VESA support.
[17:59]<auxn>hypno, is it described somewhere? (some pointer to fm would be fine :) )
[18:00]<vzzrjfzr>yeah, fbsd doesnt seem to have it, and console is horrible on laptop lcd
[18:01]<xdlgj>http://www.invisible.ca/core/VESA_Framebuffer_console_in_NetBSD
[18:01]<xdlgj>trying to find those damn screenshots.
[18:01]<xdlgj>it looked quite cool.
[18:02]<auxn>nice, what I need is to update to current (and I'm a bit feared of it - I'm lazy do often updates)
[18:03]<xdlgj>you can always do a binary update.
[18:03]<xdlgj>(build.sh seems to work 1 out of 10 trials. ;)
[18:04]<auxn>Yeah, that's what I am fearing of :-)
[18:05]<auxn>anyways, everybody seems to use build.sh, I tried it twice or so and it failed, so I just do "config ...; make depend all"
[18:07]<vrf>Does anybody know anything about getting NetBSD running on Sun Cobalt RAQ 550(P3) - On http://www.netbsd.org/Ports/cobalt/ i can't seem to find anything about RAQ 550
[18:11]<rflxrwrvns>Innes> but maybe you dont care?
[18:11]<iggns>AlphaWaves: i dont have the required power for it :)
[18:11]<iggns>AlphaWaves: but i am sure that yazzy cannot decide for the whole channel
[18:11]<ddnsr>vaq you need to do a netinstall
[18:12]<vrf>dmesg: Could you explain more?
[18:13]<ddnsr>vaq you need to setup a server to do a net install , install over the net
[18:13]<ddnsr>vaq look in google about net install
[18:14]<vrf>Well after that will NetBSD boot on Raq 550 without modifying the kernel and stuff?
[18:15]<vzzrjfzr>hmm, im going to have to try netbsd on one of my systems, i havent messed with it in years. wonder how the /ports compare to fbsd's
[18:20]<slwnw>varcolac: "have to"?
[18:21]<vzzrjfzr>:) yeah
[18:21]<vrf>dmesg: I will try the NetBSD Cobalt Restore CD - ftp://ftp.se.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/misc/cdi/cobalt/NetBSD3.99.17-restoreCD.iso
[18:21]<slwnw>varcolac: how comes?
[18:21]<vzzrjfzr>because i like framebuffer
[18:21]<dydyc>hey guys
[18:22]<vrf>dmesg: However im not sure how the Cobalt should be prepared to this? Should i just plug a netcable in the cobalt and.. ?
[18:22]<slwnw>varcolac: what? do you mean console?
[18:22]<dydyc>RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!
[18:22]<rflxrwrvns>who use mutt / html fallback?
[18:22]<ddnsr>vaq you need to install via terminal
[18:22]<vzzrjfzr>linux suck on the laptop as harware is concerned and fbsd doesnt seem to have framebuffer
[18:22]<ddnsr>vaq firts start the machine via terminal
[18:22]<vrf>dmesg: Well i cant plug a screen to the cobalt nore a keyboard?
[18:22]<slwnw>varcolac: what do you mean by framebuffer?
[18:23]<vjgyj>AlphaWaves: what is this html fallback ?
[18:23]<vzzrjfzr>small font, text
[18:23]<vrf>dmesg: Ohhh the cobalt? With the old RedHat OS ?
[18:23]<slwnw>varcolac: fbsd has that
[18:23]<vzzrjfzr>i guess linux slang
[18:23]<ddnsr>vaq you just need to start whith the eeprom
[18:24]<vrf>dmesg: eeprom? Well i should bootup the Cobalt with the old redhat os which it comes with default. And then run the command eeprom?
[18:24]<vzzrjfzr>sphex , will it work at boot up.. meaning while kernel is loading?
[18:24]<ddnsr>vaq the eeprom is like the bios on ultra sparc
[18:24]<slwnw>varcolac: would that have any point?
[18:24]<ddnsr>vaq you cant started when is starting then press stop+a
[18:25]<ddnsr>then you get ok prom to boot
[18:25]<vzzrjfzr>sphex, for neatness :)
[18:25]<slwnw>varcolac: I think you'll be happier with Linux.
[18:25]<slwnw>and Linux will be happier with you, too.
[18:26]<vrf>dmesg: There are no stop buttom on my cobalt. Only a S and a F buttom. And 4 arrows. And ofcourse the power buttom
[18:26]<rflxrwrvns>textnews.news.cambrium.nl
[18:26]<ddnsr>vaq you need to get a sun keyboard to access the eeprom
[18:26]<rflxrwrvns>tonio> its to be able to watch a message in html under mutt
[18:27]<vzzrjfzr>sphex, believe me, nope, it hate this laptop. it cant alloacate two pci resources, touchpad is crasy, keyboard multiplys charater when using pcmcia slots
[18:27]<vzzrjfzr>ive tried several distro's
[18:27]<vjgyj>AlphaWaves: i simply has text/html; w3m -dump %s; copiousoutput; description=HTML Text; nametemplate=%s.h
[18:27]<vjgyj>tml
[18:27]<vrf>dmesg: Hmm that's not possible for me... Hmmm do i have to use eeprom?
[18:27]<vjgyj>in my .mutt/mailcap
[18:28]<slwnw>varcolac: if it's that buggy under Linux, chances are it'll be under netbsd too. and what you really want is Linux anyway, you should try to fix it instead of changing it.
[18:28]<ddnsr>vaq yes, is the only way to boot the machine from
[18:28]<vzzrjfzr>sphex, it isnt in fbsd
[18:28]<vzzrjfzr>or solaris
[18:29]<slwnw>varcolac: if you want non-X11 graphics, then you should probably stick to them then.
[18:29]<vrf>dmesg: Well okay, then i would try install Gentoo on it instead. There it's not needed.
[18:29]<ddnsr>vaq :O does it has cdrom?
[18:30]<vrf>dmesg: No, but i could just pullout the harddisks, and install Gentoo and it and modify it.
[18:30]<vrf>on it*
[18:30]<ddnsr>vaq try the same way then :)
[18:30]<vrf>dmesg: All ready did that. But the NetBSD default i386 kernel does not boot correctly on it.
[18:31]<vrf>dmesg: and the bootloader on the Cobalt machine looks for the kernel in /boot with the name vmlinuz.gz (It have to be gzipped)
[18:31]<ddnsr>vaq then you need to boot from the eeprom
[18:32]<vrf>well ye aparrently it's needed for NetBSD.
[18:32]<ddnsr>yeah
[18:33]<rflxrwrvns>tonio> ah ok its .mutt/mailcap
[18:33]<vrf>sad
[18:33]<vjgyj>AlphaWaves: the default value is probably ~/.mailcap
[18:34]<rflxrwrvns>no it doesnt werk
[18:34]<ddnsr>vaq just buy a keyboard on ebay like for 10 box
[18:34]<iggns>tonio: yo how are you doing
[18:35]<vjgyj>Innes: fine. a lot of work
[18:35]<rflxrwrvns>tonio> you sure its .mutt/mailcap?
[18:35]<rflxrwrvns>your own config?
[18:36]<vjgyj>AlphaWaves: i have set mailcap_path=~/.mutt/mailcap
[18:37]<rflxrwrvns>doesnt make sense
[18:37]<rflxrwrvns>it doesnt handle it
