[00:04]<d2ysxjl>er
[00:04]<d2ysxjl>ncurses isn't a frontend? heh
[00:07]<zfrufj>no, it's a backdoor
[00:17]<xsrfyrc>hi
[00:17]<xsrfyrc>Witigonen: smb is great for file shares, so much better than nfs
[00:18]<xsrfyrc>and you dont get any of its problems.
[00:18]<wyvyrjggg>That's what I've heard.
[00:19]<xsrfyrc>i stream videos to my xbox, have music shares , file shares, home brew frontends for starting and downloading torrent/files via the intranet etc , partially over wireless etc
[00:19]<xsrfyrc>its also much better if you are in a heterogenous netbsd/windoze environemtn
[00:19]<wyvyrjggg>For these purposes, I'm not, but I potentially might.
[00:20]<xsrfyrc>yes exactly, so go for smb , its quite easy to setup. you also would want smbfs in the kernel though its worth a recompile.
[00:20]<xsrfyrc>but thats only if your client is netbsd
[00:21]<xsrfyrc>hmm ffs journal, wonder how nice its going to play with softdep
[00:23]<xsrfyrc>I will be back from the 1024x768 framebuffer console <3 bless the man who implemented fb support in netbsd
[00:24]<dydyc>i wonder if there's fbi bsd
[00:24]<dydyc>;p
[00:25]<vyavjzy_>I wish osx's restore utility would read netbsd dumps
[00:25]<vyavjzy_>pity it is not the case
[00:27]<xsrfyrc>hmm xen3 dom0
[00:28]<rraffsax>that reminds me, I need to work on that
[00:28]<myvn-j>nice, a -current kernel on a 3-stable userland wasn't a problem... gonna update userland soon, first I'm transferring everything from my old 250s to the new 750s
[00:28]<xsrfyrc>jakllsch: its in the middle of my TODO stack as well
[00:28]<myvn-j>and so far the SATAIITX4 seems to be working just fine
[00:28]<xsrfyrc>thats the problem, my TODO is a stack not a queue
[00:29]<myvn-j>my TODO is more of a bucket, perhaps a dumpster
[00:30]<xsrfyrc>you just reminded me of a HashMap() a java collections object, and thus work tomorrow.. i feel sad now
[00:30]<xsrfyrc>my hacking time is limited as it is
[00:31]<myvn-j>my hacking time pretty much died once I started working 12 hour shifts, since all I want to do is sleep on off days
[00:31]<myvn-j>hopefully I'll be getting moved to a devel position at our main office, which would mean a raise, my own place, and better hours
[00:32]<xsrfyrc>hacking on C code is golden, i go to work and come back home with all eagerness to hack but find myself just to tired to go on.
[00:32]<xsrfyrc>i end up doing nothing
[00:32]<myvn-j>I miss having the time to hack on C code
[00:33]<myvn-j>same thing for me... or I'll come home, start working on something, and just lose all motivation
[00:33]<d2ysxjl>pfft
[00:33]<xsrfyrc>dive-o: yeha
[00:33]<xsrfyrc>dive-o: i wish i was like a cyborg, maximising my time to the last minute
[00:33]<xsrfyrc>mbishop: oh?
[00:33]<myvn-j>the new hsaliak model 5000 ultracoder
[00:33]<xsrfyrc>why are you so strange?
[00:34]<d2ysxjl>hsaliak: because I like lisp :P
[00:34]<myvn-j>oh, you're one of THOSE people
[00:34]<xsrfyrc>mbishop: scheme is pretty sweet
[00:34]<xsrfyrc>dive-o: i like lisp too
[00:34]<rfrumyj`>wtf pfft
[00:34]<d2ysxjl>scheme is ok, but I like cl better myself
[00:34]<rfrumyj`>?
[00:34]<myvn-j>I got bored at work yesterday (slow day) and vnc'd into my box at home, fired up ucblogo, and hacked around with that for a while
[00:34]<xsrfyrc>i used to do a bit of the abomination known as elisp.
[00:34]<rfrumyj`>bu, anyway..
[00:34]<d2ysxjl>heh yeah, elisp is horrible :/
[00:34]<xsrfyrc>then a friend turned me onto scheme and im picking it up
[00:35]<xsrfyrc>I'm using ERC Version 5.0.1 $Revision: 1.726.2.3 $ with GNU Emacs 21.4.1 (i386--netbsdelf, X toolkit, built 2005-03-06)!
[00:35]<xsrfyrc>hehe :D
[00:35]<rfrumyj`>does anyone can give me a good URL about gap buffer implementation?
[00:35]<d2ysxjl>I'm using ERC Version 5.1.2 with GNU Emacs 22.0.50.2 (i386-unknown-netbsdelf3.0, X toolkit) of 2006-07-02.
[00:35]<xsrfyrc>nice
[00:35]<myvn-j>then I had some crazy 2nd grade logo flashbacks and told my girlfriend I want to quit my job and go back to elementary school.
[00:35]<xsrfyrc>mbishop: i have that package in wip
[00:35]<xsrfyrc>do you want to update it
[00:35]<xsrfyrc>with 5.1.2
[00:36]<xsrfyrc>im distracted by scheme though my focus should be on valgrind
[00:36]<d2ysxjl>meh, I have a little shell script that fetches emacs from cvs for me, and ERC is included in cvs emacs now
[00:36]<xsrfyrc>mbishop: i see thats nice
[00:37]<xsrfyrc>i basically did the package because it works with base emacs
[00:37]<xsrfyrc>i have it setup the way i want and so cvs emacs is not really a big deal
[00:37]<xsrfyrc>they need to have v.22 out soon
[00:37]<d2ysxjl>I got used to cvs emacs so going back to 21.4 would suck heh
[00:37]<asjpv>:)
[00:37]<xsrfyrc>Stallman is nuts
[00:38]<asjpv>Is he? Seriously?
[00:38]<xsrfyrc>I would never have guessed it myself but someone told me jsoft
[00:39]<asjpv>Goodness no
[00:40]<xsrfyrc>its true
[00:45]<d2ysxjl>heh indeed, I'm glad I'm not longer affiliated with gentoo :P
[00:45]<xsrfyrc>i know a few gentoo devel from singapore
[00:46]<xsrfyrc>mbishop: its all good, netbsd is a nice place to be
[00:46]<d2ysxjl>indeed
[00:47]<xsrfyrc>but gentoo no longer being the fad of the season must be doing the project good i suppose
[00:48]<asjpv>gentoo is awesome! its the best server/firewall/minimalist distro ever.
[00:48]<d2ysxjl>last I knew, the graphical installer came out, everyone using it was compelete tards, the devs would hide from users, and the good devs left
[00:48]<xsrfyrc>it must be getting better from the "i use gento therefore im l33t" days you must admit there was a period of that. now im sure only the really good ones are in it, the project despite all the hype had its good points.
[00:48]<zfrufj>just to be against everyone, gentoo sucks.
[00:49]<xsrfyrc>by hide you mean have a splinter channel ?
[00:49]<xsrfyrc>rpaulo: heh i never used it, so i can only offer speculative comments.
[00:49]<d2ysxjl>hsaliak: yes, there are tons of #gentoo-foo channels
[00:49]<xsrfyrc>i was already a netbsd user before the first gentoo came out
[00:49]<asjpv>I tried gentoo ages ago, thought it was complete arse... why should I spend my time working so hard to get a system going?
[00:49]<xsrfyrc>why have bread when you can have cake, ( and a nice 1.6.x installer which used to crash when you chose to show the sets that were being untarred )
[00:50]<asjpv>:)
[00:50]<asjpv>netbsd needs obsd's single floppy installer :) obsd's installer it the best installer ever :)
[00:50]<xsrfyrc>jsoft: its probably from 1.4.x days
[00:50]<xsrfyrc>but netbsd's 2 floppy installer is still fantastic
[00:51]<asjpv>nah, it means i have to find TWO reliable floppys instead of just one
[00:51]<xsrfyrc>no gripes about netbsd's installer , i personally think 1.5.x installer was the ultimate
[00:51]<xsrfyrc>jsoft: i have had one box and 1 reliable floppy and done this before
[00:51]<asjpv>I dont like it. I still think obsd's is WAY quicker and easier.
[00:51]<xsrfyrc>load one , go to the other box copy the 2nd image into the first disk
[00:51]<xsrfyrc>jsoft: yeah but it has as much options as netbsd?
[00:51]<xsrfyrc>jsoft: also maybe the case that our INSTALL kernel is fatter
[00:52]<xsrfyrc>muchos fattos , like 4 meg
