[14:23]<zfgwzgmzj>Hi all. Does anybody know how to write programs with libsmbclient and use configfile other, than system and ~/.smb/smb.conf? I try export and set dyn_CONFIGFILE before smbc_init, but it's don't work...
[14:27]<ysr>hi. i am using samba 3.0.14a-Debian. I would like to view logfiles from a windows workstation. the logfile is on a samba share. as some process is writing to the logfile all the time, i always get a "permission denied", when i try to open the logfile in my editor. does anyone have an idea, how to watch files, while they are written? (i would only need read-access)
[14:35]<sggmzj>isa, use bash
[14:36]<sggmzj>and tail -f file.log
[14:39]<ysr>sendro: thats what i would do, but a windows-user would like to view it in an editor :)
[15:05]<nyccn>I got a strange issue
[15:05]<nyccn>smbclient -M localhost works fine. smbclient -L mymachine works fine. smbclient -M mymachine -> connection failed
[15:06]<nyccn>not firewalled
[15:09]<zfgwzgmzj>eikke: nmblookup -A mymachine, does mymachine 0x03 present in list?
[15:10]<nyccn>looking up 127.0.0.1, no reply from same ip
[15:10]<nyccn>doesnt work for "localhost" either
[15:11]<zfgwzgmzj>mymachine and localhost is the same machine,
[15:11]<zfgwzgmzj>?
[15:11]<nyccn>yes
[15:11]<zfgwzgmzj>what name resolve order?
[15:11]<zfgwzgmzj>in smb.conf
[15:12]<nyccn>not set, looks like default is wins lmhosts bcast ?
[15:13]<zfgwzgmzj>nmblookup -A 127.0.0.1 ?
[15:13]<zfgwzgmzj>"no reply from same ip"?
[15:13]<zfgwzgmzj>what interfaces smbd listen?
[15:14]<nyccn>no reply from 127.0.0.1. nmblookup -A on my LAN IP also results in a no reply message
[15:14]<zfgwzgmzj>netstat -na |grep 139
[15:14]<nyccn>i know ;) 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
[15:15]<nyccn>local 0.0.0.0:139 too
[15:15]<nyccn>strange thing is -M on localhost works, not on machine name
[15:15]<zfgwzgmzj>canyou connect by telnet localhost 139 and telnet localhost 445?
[15:16]<zfgwzgmzj>if no, than check firewall.
[15:16]<nyccn>I can connect
[15:16]<nyccn>I havent got a firewall, only one on my wan gateway
[15:17]<zfgwzgmzj>smbclient -M mymachine -I 127.0.0.1 work fine?
[15:17]<nyccn>yes
[15:17]<zfgwzgmzj>ok, this is name resolve order. ))
[15:18]<nyccn>then why does smbclient -L mymachine work fine?
[15:18]<zfgwzgmzj>smbclient -R host -M mymachine ?
[15:18]<nyccn>looks like it tries broadcast lookup when I -M mymachine
[15:20]<nyccn>http://pastebin.com/718564
[15:21]<nyccn>-d4 gives getlmhostsent: lmhost entry: 127.0.0.1 localhost
[15:22]<zfgwzgmzj>may be you try to restart nmbd?
[15:23]<nyccn>you're right, did the job
[15:23]<nyccn>any idea what causes this?
[15:23]<zfgwzgmzj>you restart nmbd and now all work?
[15:23]<nyccn>yeah
[15:24]<zfgwzgmzj>nmbd crash or didn't start...
[15:24]<nyccn>init script gave no errors after doing a restart (which should if the service wasnt running)
[15:25]<nyccn>might be acpi suspend related?
[15:25]<nyccn>anyway, thanks :)
[15:25]<zfgwzgmzj>i don't know, how to say, that "no thanks" ^_^
[15:25]<zfgwzgmzj>))
[15:25]<zfgwzgmzj>my english is not cool at all.
[15:26]<nyccn>heh, its ok, I'm not native either
[15:26]<zfgwzgmzj>try to read logs before lines about restart.
[15:26]<zfgwzgmzj>in /var/log/log.nmbd
[15:34]<ysr>can anyone point me into the right direction with my problem? i have write access on the share and can do anything i want. there is just the problem, that i cant read a file that is actually written too by a process on the linuxmachine. i found something about file lockings but it didnt help me so far ...
[15:46]<wjpprppr>hello, can a samba server authenticate its users from an AD domain server (Windows 2000) using LDAP?
[15:48]<ysr>hi wolfAlfa. should be possible, although i am not familiar with it, i can provide a link: http://us2.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/domain-member.html#id2542454
[15:51]<wjpprppr>isa: already made it work on win2k3, I'm asking if anyone was successful with the win2k setup
[15:52]<wjpprppr>win2k + samba + winbind work also.
[15:52]<ysr>wolfAlfa: oh, sorry then ;-)
[15:53]<wjpprppr>no problem
[15:53]<ysr>i am not sure about that
[15:53]<ysr>but i think its possible with w2k tooo
[15:54]<ysr>as far as i remember you had to do something to get it working with w2k3
[15:54]<ysr>spnego or something like that
[15:54]<ysr>so i think it should work with w2k too, because there was just the spnego modification to get it working with w2k3
[15:59]<wjpprppr>it's just not working
[15:59]<wjpprppr>:( windows installations are just too cryptic
[16:46]<dxvnzzns>morning
[17:06]<wvnax>to have a samba BDC its a must to implement winbind?
[17:10]<||aw>xtech: the only way to have a samba bdc is to use LDAP
[17:11]<||aw>winbind is for getting domain users into unix users
[17:17]<wvnax> <||cw> xtech: the only way to have a samba bdc is to use LDAP : This is not accurate
[17:18]<wvnax>is the best solution, but not the only one
[17:21]<||aw>replicating samba's tdb files is just ugly and prone to corruption
[17:21]<||aw>the only effective way is ldap, with an ldap slave
[17:21]<||aw>anything else is not any better than just making a backup of the files
[17:24]<wvnax>yes, that's it, the LDAP way is the best, but not the onloy way
[17:27]<vafygncs>can samba acting as domain master operate without interferrance within a subnet with a current win2000 PDC if the domain name in the samba conf. is different?
[17:27]<vafygncs>I'm evaluating replacing a win2000 AD setup with sambaPDC/ldap and have them on a separate network currently
[17:33]<ryggeyffr>if it serves another domain it should be no problem
[17:34]<wvnax>Read the documentation, its VERY clear on what samba can do
[17:34]<||aw>tclineks: you should be able to have 2 domains on one subnet, as long as you have a WINS server there shouldn't be a problem
[17:34]<vafygncs>thank you
[17:37]<snjw>hi all
[17:37]<snjw>i have this problem
[17:37]<snjw>sniegas:~# mount -t smbfs -r -o guest //84.240.52.162/mydocuments/ /second/users/darius
[17:37]<snjw>timeout connecting to 84.240.52.162:445
[17:37]<snjw>timeout connecting to 84.240.52.162:139
[17:37]<snjw>Error connecting to 84.240.52.162 (Operation already in progress)
[17:37]<snjw>10661: Connection to 84.240.52.162 failed
[17:37]<snjw>SMB connection failed
[17:37]<snjw>what should I do?
[17:39]<||aw>is the server samba also?
[17:40]<||aw>or windows?
[17:40]<||aw>if it's samba then it's not running, if it's windows, sounds like a firewall
[17:41]<snjw>anyone? :)
[17:44]<fgwdudy>can some1 help me with samba on suse - pdc?
[17:45]<fgwdudy>10.1 as a pdc... xp with requiresignorseal=0, signsecurechannel=0, roaming check disabled... cannot add to "domain" -- any help would be appreciated
[17:45]<znyppnzv>SNow: make 84.240.52.162 to accept incoming packets on udp/445, udp/139 and tcp/445 and tcp/139
[17:45]<||aw>lnxdumi: did you enable samba WINS server and config it on the client?
