[00:37]<dynvnz2n>damn
[00:37]<dynvnz2n>anybody can help me?
[00:38]<dynvnz2n>i've set security to user, but i just cant login, even when explicitly entering a username and password
[00:38]<dynvnz2n>the user exists both on the linux system, and on the samba
[00:38]<dynvnz2n>with the same password
[00:47]<||aw>Dieterbe: that's the logs say?
[00:47]<||aw>what's^
[00:47]<pz2-wjzc>screw it, I'm getting the damn svn source, this is rediculous
[00:50]<dynvnz2n>||cw: http://pastebin.com/738099 <-- weird though, it shows the automatic tries of my OS, cause i'm atm logged in as Diet (which doesnt exist on the linux/samba box), but i've tried to login as user dieter on the samba server, but the log doesnt mention that :/
[00:51]<dynvnz2n>or isnt the loggin "realtime" ?
[00:52]<||aw>can't you make them the same? it works much easier that way
[00:56]<dynvnz2n>yeah i created the user dieter on my windows box, but logging in as dieter gives the same problem
[00:57]<dynvnz2n>besides, i'm trying to explicitly login as dieter in the "login box" that windows shows me, so as long as i fill in the right user and pass it shouldnt matter
[01:09]<sjz|n2jjc>I was in here about a month and a half ago, having problems getting Gentoo to mount a samba share, I ended up being advised to get the samba source, and compiling the cifs kernel driver from the source, and trying that.
[01:10]<sjz|n2jjc>I found the driver and stuff, but I can't find the documentation file for that
[01:10]<sjz|n2jjc>any ideas?
[01:21]<pznmuw>buenas tardes
[01:27]<pz2-wjzc>I'm having trouble finding the samba svn howto
[01:27]<pz2-wjzc>all I need to know is how to check it out, the rest I can figure out
[02:21]<zzysvppyzgg>I have a printer on a windows computer, and Im trying to print to it from a linux computer. Is there anything you need to modify in smb.conf to start printing to the windows pc ? For some reason the printers wants to print, but it doesn't print anything...
[02:58]<mxdrfnd>frb-work: there is a source code tarball on samba.org. You can skip the svn part.
[03:00]<pz2-wjzc>for 3.0.23?
[03:00]<pz2-wjzc>I need a patch that was added after 22 was released
[03:00]<mxdrfnd>frb-work: 3.0.23rc1
[03:01]<pz2-wjzc>ok, it wasn't ther when I looked yesterday
[03:20]<pz2-wjzc>is it even possible to make smb/cifs mounts usermountable?
[03:20]<pz2-wjzc>normally, I would add 'user' to the mount options, but that is the username for smb/cifs, so I'm lost
[03:39]<pz2-wjzc>I can't find 3.0.23rc1 on us4.samba.org
[03:46]<pz2-wjzc>ftp://us1.samba.org/pub/samba is empty
[03:48]<brt>shit happens...
[03:50]<pz2-wjzc>us5 has what I want though
[05:26]<knnpn>i just setup a new slackware box, and want to setup samba to allow anybody within the lan to access a certain folder on the slack box, without having to login or provide a password in any way. i have been searching the web and trying various things for an hour now, and can't get anything to work. i'm sure it is just a really simple setting in smb.conf. what is it?
[05:27]<knnpn>hmm, did my long question get cutoff? before "what is it?" ?
[05:28]<knnpn>here is my latest attempt:
[05:28]<knnpn>[global]
[05:28]<knnpn> interfaces = eth1
[05:28]<knnpn> security = share
[05:28]<knnpn> guest ok = yes
[05:28]<knnpn>[BK-Keefe]
[05:28]<knnpn> path = /mnt/hda5
[05:28]<knnpn> read only = no
[05:29]<knnpn> guest ok = yes
[05:29]<knnpn> public = yes
[05:29]<knnpn>but i still get an immediate "Network access is denied." error when i try to go to "\\darkstar\BK-Keefe\" with windows explorer
[05:31]<knnpn>what am i missing?
[05:33]<knnpn>wow, alot of ppl just idling here. the channels i'm used to only have a handful but somebody is always talking
[05:43]<knnpn>ohh! duh! /mnt/hda5 didnt have read permissions set except for root
[05:43]<knnpn>and i wasted all that time messing with samba
[09:45]<_ajnd>having a problem configuring samba on remote print server
[09:45]<_ajnd>on windows client - access denied
[09:46]<_ajnd>[global]
[09:46]<_ajnd> printcap name = cups
[09:46]<_ajnd> printing = cups
[09:46]<_ajnd> security = share
[09:46]<_ajnd>[printers]
[09:46]<_ajnd> browseable = yes
[09:46]<_ajnd> printable = yes
[09:46]<_ajnd> public = yes
[09:46]<_ajnd> create mode = 0700
[09:46]<_ajnd> guest only = yes
[09:46]<_ajnd> guest account = smbprint
[09:46]<_ajnd> path = /home/smbprint
[09:46]<_ajnd>config file and smbprint user exists
[09:48]<_ajnd>hmmm
[09:57]<_ajnd>fscking piece of shit
[11:39]<jnr>I have a problem where I can lists the services of samba server, but can not lists or access the files. There does not seem to be an error I have place the log level high and looks thought them all. The client just seems to hang
[11:54]<ran>hello.
[12:45]<ran>i have a problem with a samba server (2.2.3a-14.1 on debian) with a small set of windows xp clients. the clients are able to connect to the server, but after a certain amount of time reading and writing to the network drive, one of the clients returns a weird error with 'delayed write' (etc). it's very critical. what can i do to fix that error?
[12:50]<ppupppns>if i set debug to level 9, and i keep connecting to my samba fileserver, why isnt there any log created?
[12:51]<ppupppns>the client pc asks for password, but password is rejected everytime
[12:51]<ppupppns>but no log makes mention of this
[12:51]<ppupppns>it's driving me crazy..
[12:51]<ppupppns>why doesnt samba log connect attempts?
[12:51]<ppupppns>the log.<ipaddress> file is empty
[12:52]<ppupppns>using 3.0.21b
[12:52]<ppupppns>clean install
[13:05]<fuyvvn_>aje: why are you using woody? sarge has been stable quite a while now
[13:06]<fuyvvn_>aje: also the package you are using isn't even the latest in woody
[13:06]<ran>quitte_: you're right. i need to look at upgrading it. just a sec.
[13:09]<jnf>is there any way to play music over samba
[13:09]<jnf>streaming im talking...
[13:10]<jnf>amarok and kaffeine both shit themselves when i try
[13:11]<fuyvvn_>Jel: samba has nothing to do with streaming. it is to access remote filesystems as if they were local.
[13:11]<jnf>i know...
[13:11]<fuyvvn_>so what are you trying to do?
[13:12]<jnf>im trying to access files (mp3s) on my OTHER pc... which is windows based
[13:12]<jnf>i can copy them fine
[13:12]<fuyvvn_>and playing copies also works fine?
