[10:51]<zjsaj>hi
[10:52]<zjsaj>Is distributing rsync.exe (without sources) as a part of a paying, non-free program considered a violation of the GPL ?
[10:54]<pz2>as long as you provice sources somewhere, no
[10:54]<zjsaj>they aren't provided anywhere, you just have the .exe
[10:54]<pz2>you must provide a copyright notice, a license notice, and a method of retrieving the sources
[10:54]<pz2>even if that is just a url to the real source
[10:55]<pz2>then again, I'm not a lawyer
[14:09]<auzya>hello
[14:10]<auzya>i'm having problems with my network shared printer
[14:10]<auzya>it is connected to a linux box via USB
[14:11]<auzya>if i print localy it works fine
[14:11]<auzya>but when i try to print using my other windows box it takes a loooooong time to refresh that printer is available and it can print
[14:12]<auzya>some times it also happens that i can not print althoug the printer is in "Ready" state
[14:12]<auzya>any toughts?
[14:36]<mzzczfyz>Hi all
[14:41]<djrve>hey all
[14:42]<djrve>i've installed samba server in a rhel 4.3 server. the server is hosted in a datacenter.
[14:42]<djrve>i've tried to access it remotely and i cant connect to it.
[14:42]<djrve>the only way i can connect to it is from another server, located on the same switch in the datacenter running 2003 server.
[14:43]<mzzczfyz>you want to configure a remote samba share access ?
[14:43]<djrve>yes.
[14:43]<djrve>i want to be able to connect to it from anywhere.
[14:44]<mzzczfyz>I think it's it's dangerous, but you can try through a VPN
[14:44]<djrve>i have no problem with security.
[14:44]<djrve>i'll just open the share to a specific IP from the firewall.
[14:44]<djrve>but i want to be able to connect to it from anywhere.
[14:45]<djrve>the limitation will be the FW.
[14:45]<mzzczfyz>so see the /etc/services files
[14:45]<mzzczfyz>135 to 139 and 445 port are used by netbios and microsoft protocole
[14:46]<dzrajgyaus>Why does samba take so goddamned long to send files within a local network from one Linux machine to another?!
[14:46]<djrve>darkalia i even tried to disable the FW. but i cant get it working.
[14:47]<djrve>but still, nothing.
[14:48]<djrve>how can i just open it with no limitations ?
[14:49]<ugyvjgn>if DOMAIN\Domain Admins was removed from windows workstation Administrators group, is it possible to re-add it again from samba server?
[14:50]<dzrajgyaus>I'm sending files, average size of 5MB, over a 100Mbit connection via cp -r applied to a deep directory. I'm doing this over a Samba share. It's acting like 10Mbit. What gives?!
[14:53]<mzzczfyz>yoavz, honestly, I juste setup a similar configuration through a VPN, so I can't help, sorry :/
[14:54]<djrve>is there any linux-windows VPN server?
[14:54]<djrve>any good*
[14:54]<djrve>and if so, whats it's name and is there any good how-to or manual
[15:01]<mzzczfyz>I used freeswan, but there is openVPN now
[15:01]<mzzczfyz>but I never used it
[15:05]<djrve>hmm, i dont understand why can i just open the server for world-wide connections.

[19:38]<pz2-wjzc>when building samba, does it store a log with the details?
[19:38]<pz2-wjzc>I have a linkage error on bin/smbsh, but without the gcc/ld line I can't tell what libraries it was trying to link in to debug
[19:45]<rsmw>does mac osx uses samba?
[19:45]<rsmw>for sharing stuff with linux/windows
[19:50]<syg>it can
[19:51]<syg>asdx, ive set up linux samba servers for mac/windows networks and linux NFS servers for all mac networks
[19:51]<syg>and a linux samba server for an all mac network
[19:51]<rsmw>ok
[19:52]<syg>just connect to network device smb://ipaddress/share
[19:52]<rsmw>ok thx :)
[19:52]<syg>or smb://hostname/share
[19:52]<rsmw>and if you want to share something in your mac? (i've never used osx)
[19:58]<ycsvjzv>I have samba's smbd running with workgroup set to WORKGROUP and hostname set to BISTROMATH but when I look at microsoft windows network on one of my windows machines I can't see BISTROMATH in WORKGROUP
[19:58]<ycsvjzv>:(
[20:00]<ycsvjzv>Er, is anyone alive ?
[20:01]<pz2-wjzc>Ykstort: make sure nmbd is running
[20:01]<ycsvjzv>The init script starts it.... I'll check anyway
[20:01]<ycsvjzv>Yeah, it's running
[20:01]<ycsvjzv>As well as smbd
[20:02]<ycsvjzv>http://ykstort.pastebin.com/741384
[20:04]<rsmw>AppleTalk was the networking stack (tcp/ip) like Apple used in old versions of Mac OSX? right?
[20:04]<wygxlnzvs>yes
[20:05]<wygxlnzvs>Ykstort, try addin security = share to global
[20:06]<ycsvjzv>okay
[20:08]<ycsvjzv>it worked, thanks
[20:08]<ycsvjzv>but
[20:09]<ycsvjzv>I set one of the shared folders to writeable but I can't write to it from the windows box
[20:10]<rsmw>Ykstort: check if the directory has write permissions
[20:10]<ycsvjzv>Does it have to be world writeable ?
[20:11]<ycsvjzv>Because I don't want just anybody to have write access...
[20:12]<ycsvjzv>How do you use a username and password to access shared folders ??
[20:15]<ycsvjzv>Or something..
[20:15]<ycsvjzv>:\
[20:27]<pz2-wjzc>Ykstort: in what?
[20:27]<pz2-wjzc>server, client, windows, unix?
[20:31]<ycsvjzv>it's okay, I worked it out
[20:31]<ycsvjzv>Go go smbpasswd :D
[21:39]<vydvjw>I'm curious, does Samba play nice with ISPConfig?
[21:41]<ycsvjzv>ISPConfig ?
[21:41]<vydvjw>yes, for Debian Sarge
[21:42]<vydvjw>ISP is kinda like an advanced webmin
