[00:22]<gjvw>Starting SMB services: /etc/init.d/functions: line 83: 2418 Aborted $nice $*
[00:22]<gjvw>[FAILED]
[00:22]<gjvw>I get this error now after I deleted the smbpasswd and secrets.tdb file and then did a smbpasswd -a user
[00:33]<gmmugmj_v>notx, even if you delete all tdb files samba should start properly and recreate them
[00:37]<gjvw>fixed it heh
[00:40]<lr2txur>any ideas why a SAMBA PDC authenticating against LDAP would allow you to map a drive but not logon to a workstation with the same username and password?
[00:44]<gmmugmj_v>LabThug, is that workstation a Win NT, 2000 or XP?
[00:44]<lr2txur>XP workstation
[00:45]<gmmugmj_v>it was joined to the domain?
[00:45]<lr2txur>I just added it to the SAMBA Server's domain
[00:45]<lr2txur>it tells me invalid username and password when I try to login
[00:45]<lr2txur>but, I'm typing it right
[00:47]<gmmugmj_v>do you have an map to guest option setted in smb.conf?
[00:48]<lr2txur>I have a guest account specified, and a couple guest ok settings in the share part, but that's it
[00:49]<gmmugmj_v>this machine joined with success into the domain?
[00:49]<lr2txur>I had some problems at first because of a zombied nmbd, but after I killed that and restarted samba, it joined successfully
[00:50]<gmmugmj_v>you can set a log level = 2 in smb.conf and see in the log with the name of the machine whats happening
[00:52]<lr2txur>weird... " check_ntlm_password: authentication for user [nida] -> [nida] -> [nida] succeeded"
[00:54]<lr2txur>There is this above that message "netsec_decode: FAILED: packet sequence number:"
[00:55]<gmmugmj_v>which version of samba do you use?
[00:55]<lr2txur>smbd version 3.0.14a-Debian started. (Latest from Debian)
[00:57]<gmmugmj_v>try to unjoin, erase the account of the machine and join again
[00:58]<lr2txur>oh, that brings up a question. The case is different between the machine's name in /etc/passwd and the machine's host name. Will that matter?
[00:59]<lr2txur>also, I'm adding the machine account of /etc/passwd and smbpasswd before I join them to the domian. Dunno if that makes a difference
[01:01]<gmmugmj_v>you must create them with the add machine script, or manually as stated in the samba howto
[01:03]<lr2txur>hmmm, I'm specifing a password for the machine, will that make a difference
[01:04]<gmmugmj_v>yes
[01:04]<lr2txur>ok, I'll try again with no password this time :-D
[01:10]<lr2txur>machine has been readded, rebooting it now
[01:13]<lr2txur>"The system cannot log you on now because the domain GCRC is not available"
[01:14]<lr2txur>Maybe the fact "A duplicate name exists on the network" has something to do with it

[01:20]<gmmugmj_v>How to add a machine back to the domain -> http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/domain-member.html#id2541432
[01:22]<gmmugmj_v>ops, How to create a machine trust account -> http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/domain-member.html#id2537569
[01:22]<lr2txur>yeah, I read that one already, thanks though
[01:28]<lr2txur>bah, I'm hungry. Gonna go home and try this tomorrow. Thanks for the help
[01:40]<ugyvjgn>is it possible to add 'DOMAIN\Domain Admins' to windows workstation 'Administrators' group from samba server?
[02:13]<pz2>does samba store a log of the real compile cmdlines?
[02:14]<pz2>I had a build error, but I can't debug without knowing what libs it tryied to link
[02:15]<mjaq>you can write the output of make to a file
[02:36]<txnlrw>Worms World Party? Server läuft. Sorry for amsg
[03:09]<zrmgg>i believe i have everything installed to share my printer from linux / samba my win box sees it i can print from windows side but no errors and nothing prints any ideas ?
[03:11]<zrmgg>is anyone ever here ?
[03:26]<gmmugmj_v>raden, have you added an allow line to your network in cupsd.conf?
[03:26]<zrmgg>edmundo_v, no sirt
[03:26]<zrmgg>is there a howot somewhere i can lookat ?
[03:26]<zrmgg>wow my typing sucks tonight
[03:26]<zrmgg>is there a howto you could point me to on proper setup ?
[03:27]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>Hi all
[03:27]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>My debian testing fileserver has started going crazy when people are browsing it's samba shares
[03:27]<gmmugmj_v>I think that in the samba howto has something about printing and cups
[03:28]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>Every now and then, whenever someone is browsing it it starts spawning smbd processes left right and center, and crashes the machine
[03:28]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>The error message in the logs is:
[03:28]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>[2006/05/28 01:24:58, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(693)
[03:28]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz> 192.168.0.2 (192.168.0.2) connect to service Downloaded initially as user samba (uid=1001, gid=100) (pid 4912)
[03:28]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>And that's not even really an error message
[03:29]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>I can't find anything about a problem like this, so IRC/Mail is my last resort, it's driving me nuts!
[03:31]<gfsyfjg>tried debian stable? Checked debian's bugreports?
[03:31]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>I could downgrade to stable, but a couple of packages I want are only available in testing, as for debians bugreports, no, but I'll go look - thanks
[03:32]<zrmgg>epsilon, did u used to hang out in coding ? like years back ?
[03:32]<gfsyfjg>eh?
[03:33]<zrmgg>one of my buddies used to i cant rember what servers
[03:33]<gfsyfjg>wasn't me
[03:34]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>Well, bugs.debian.org isn't being very speedy to say the least...
[03:35]<pzrgc->I fear the lack of maintainers is the first cause
[03:35]<pzrgc->for debian.
[03:36]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>Possible, but it's a very serious bug and I'm just suprised noone else has encountered it
[03:36]<brt>Who needs debian, when there is Ubhuntu :)
[03:36]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>It totally takes the machine out
[03:36]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>debain = servers, ubuntu = desktops
[03:36]<pzrgc->electrichamster: may I ask which version of samba that is?
[03:37]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>3.0.22-1, according to aptitude
[03:37]<gfsyfjg>Ubuntu? Oh that commercialized unstable debian-fork?
[03:37]<pzrgc->ok. have you tried installing a slightly older version?
[03:38]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>frank-, that was my next idea
[03:38]<pzrgc->polease give it a try
[03:38]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>frank-, although I've never had to do it on debain, so I'm about to look up how :D
[03:38]<pzrgc->I've never experienced your issue, nor have I used debian extensively
[03:38]<pzrgc->I don't particularly like debian
[03:38]<gfsyfjg>take a stable package, install and set the package to 'hold' in dpkg or aptitude whichever you use
[03:39]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>epsilon, cheers
[03:42]<gfsyfjg>I just checked samba in debian/testing debootstrap, it looks fine, only 1 forked user process
[03:45]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>Ok, I've downgraded it, now to see if I can crash it
[03:49]<gfsyfjg>.oO (that was the last word ppl heard of him)
[03:49]<nfnzvzyzxzdsvnz>:P
[03:51]<ycsvjzv>Samba is fun, thanks to samba I now have tonnes of music :D
[03:53]<ycsvjzv>No, my sister has loads of music
[03:53]<ycsvjzv>Good music
[03:53]<pzrgc->what do you consider good music?
[03:53]<ycsvjzv>Well, I like many types of music
[03:53]<pzrgc->still
[03:53]<pzrgc->name a few genres
[03:54]<ycsvjzv>Rock, Hip hop, Drum 'n' Base
[03:54]<ycsvjzv>Electronica
[03:54]<ycsvjzv>Erm, what else
[03:54]<pzrgc->I hate rock, and hip hop. BUt I like dnb
