[00:02]<p2>-hi everyone
[00:05]<pfrsdrhh>+can I get smbspool somehow to log stuff instead of writing it to stdout?
[00:06]<||aw>+smbspool > logfile
[00:06]<pfrsdrhh>+Im using cups, and cups invokes smbspool
[00:06]<p2>-i've a really strange problem with samba-3.0.10/fc3/2003DC. the fc machine has an account into the kerberos AD realm and nsswitch.conf says "files winbind". if i do "getent passwd _user_" -> no response and winbind d4 log says user _user_ did not exist. but if i do a "getent passwd" (and list all the realm users), it work and then, for some second, i can do the previously failed "getent passwd _user_" successfuly. any idea ?
[00:06]<||aw>+then ask cups if you can add that
[00:07]<pfrsdrhh>+ok, so no way to do it without changing code and recompiling?
[00:07]<||aw>+fb: sounds like a bum cache file, delete the winbind_cache.tdb (stop windbind first though)
[00:11]<p2>-to bad, i've done this and even with a clean cache getent passwd _user_ fails miserably ...
[00:14]<p2>-||cw even with "-n" (disable cache) to winbind. it doesn't work ...
[00:15]<p2>-what drive me crazy is that the "ads_enum_user" seems to do the magic and then everythings is working well...what can explain this behaviour ?
[00:26]<p2>-||cw in fact, if i turn off caching (-n) to winbind. "getent passwd" always work and "getent passwd toto" NEVER work ...
[00:28]<pz2-wjzc>+if I setup samba to use ldap, can it share the data with normal passwd ?
[00:28]<gmmugmj_v>+frb-work, yes
[00:29]<pz2-wjzc>+setting up a PDC looks simple, am I missing something?
[00:40]<svjgncnnlnz>+hi! Which ldap/samba admin tool do people recommend when using the idealx scripts? Thanks.
[00:44]<gmmugmj_v>+Stonekeeper, I use phpldapadmin
[00:51]<svjgncnnlnz>+edmundo_v: you heard of gosa?
[00:52]<gmmugmj_v>+yes, but never used it
[00:53]<gmmugmj_v>+I use phpldapadmin mostly to browse the entries or fix things, as all accounts can be created with smbldap-tools
[00:58]<ajdjd>-I asked this the other day but no one seemed to know. Anyone have any thoughts of why net ads join hangs when attempting to join a Win2k AD domain. Kerberos tickets are handed out to the samba machine fine (verified with klist). There is no issue joining a 2003 domain.
[01:02]<svjgncnnlnz>+edmundo_v: thanks for the info. see ya
[01:20]<{gjfmgggdg}>+getpeername failed. Error was Transport endpoint is not connected
[01:21]<{gjfmgggdg}>+I get this log errors when trying to add a xp machine to my samba 3 domain
[01:22]<{gjfmgggdg}>+waht can it be!?
[01:22]<{gjfmgggdg}>+ [2006/06/06 23:21:44, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:build_sam_account(1205)
[01:22]<{gjfmgggdg}>+Jun 6 23:21:44 moon smbd[12768]: build_sam_account: smbpasswd database is corrupt! username jupiter$ with uid 503 is not in unix passwd database!
[01:28]<gmmugmj_v>+{GoldenEye}, about the getpeername error, it doesnt means anything
[01:28]<{gjfmgggdg}>+ok
[01:28]<gmmugmj_v>+about the other, its saying that your smbpasswd database is corrupted
[01:29]<{gjfmgggdg}>+But I have a problem to add my amchine to the domain
[01:29]<gmmugmj_v>+which backend do you use? whats in the passwd backend in smb.conf?
[01:32]<gmmugmj_v>+this is what getpeername failed errors means: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2005-March/101571.html
[01:32]<gmmugmj_v>+its in the samba wiki
[01:34]<{gjfmgggdg}>+I dont have any passwd backend line...
[01:34]<{gjfmgggdg}>+:(
[01:35]<{gjfmgggdg}>+wath shoud I do?
[01:35]<gmmugmj_v>+testparm -v | grep backend
[01:36]<gmmugmj_v>+this shows what are the options currently not specified
[01:36]<gmmugmj_v>+it shows the defaults that it falls back
[01:37]<{gjfmgggdg}>+passdb backend = smbpasswd idmap backend =
[01:37]<{gjfmgggdg}>+Is this ok?
[01:39]<gmmugmj_v>+its recommended to use tdbsam to new installations, but anyway smbpasswd works too
[01:41]<gmmugmj_v>+testparm -v | grep smbpasswd should return where the smbpasswd is
[01:42]<gmmugmj_v>+maybe theres something wrong with it
[01:42]<{gjfmgggdg}>+Loaded services file OK.
[01:42]<{gjfmgggdg}>+Server role: ROLE_DOMAIN_PDC
[01:42]<{gjfmgggdg}>+Press enter to see a dump of your service definitions
[01:42]<{gjfmgggdg}>+ smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
[01:42]<{gjfmgggdg}>+ passdb backend = smbpasswd
[01:42]<gmmugmj_v>+the logs shows any other errors?
[01:44]<{gjfmgggdg}>+I'll try to add the machine again and post you the log
[01:44]<-- vxnznzfzjzzj xzs>*")
[01:44]<{gjfmgggdg}>+ho boy...
[01:44]<{gjfmgggdg}>+now it worked...
[01:44]<{gjfmgggdg}>+:)
[01:45]<{gjfmgggdg}>+I didnt change nothing... how can this be!
[01:45]<{gjfmgggdg}>+I'll try to restart my machine, ill be back in a minute
[01:45]<{gjfmgggdg}>+thanks a lot
[01:49]<{gjfmgggdg}>+hello again frinds
[01:50]<{gjfmgggdg}>+I restarted my Windows Extra Problems and cant logon to my domain
[01:50]<{gjfmgggdg}>+it says: Wait until the domain list is created.
[01:50]<{gjfmgggdg}>+and stays there until I press Ctrl+Alt+Del
[01:50]<{gjfmgggdg}>+:(
[01:50]<gmmugmj_v>+do you have a properly configured dns server or netbios enabled in Win XP?
[01:51]<gmmugmj_v>+its a problem in name resolution probably
[01:52]<{gjfmgggdg}>+ok
[01:53]<{gjfmgggdg}>+It was it
[01:53]<{gjfmgggdg}>+hi enabled netbios over tcp/ip and it works now
[01:54]<{gjfmgggdg}>+thanks a lot
[02:00]<{gjfmgggdg}>+edmundo_v> my friend how can I hide come kind a files in the samba shares
[02:00]<{gjfmgggdg}>+?
[02:02]<gmmugmj_v>+thers an option "hide files" that can be used, but it only marks the files as hidden, if the client is enabled to show hidden files, they will appear anyway
[02:03]<{gjfmgggdg}>+ok
[02:03]<{gjfmgggdg}>+thanks
[05:20]<_vaa>+Has anyone messed with smb-nat?
[06:10]<lnvnz_>-On a new install of SAMBA on a linux box, I want to connect to several XP's that do not use passowrds. Are the special considerations?
[06:16]<pzrgc->-use the guest account to connect
[06:16]<pzrgc->-from unix to windows, that is
[06:17]<lnvnz_>-no special changes to smb.conf?
[06:18]<pzrgc->-no, man smbmount
[06:18]<pzrgc->-assuming you only want to connect to XP, not the other way around
[06:18]<pzrgc->-you might as well set up anonymous shares on samab too
[06:18]<lnvnz_>-i don't want to connect the other way. i want the kids to use the linux box as a share.
[06:19]<pzrgc->-then set up a share with guest ok = yes
[06:19]<pzrgc->-or something along those lines
[06:19]<lnvnz_>-that's what i got. i'll give it a try, thanks.
[06:22]<pzrgc->-sure
[06:30]<lnvnz_>-i'm invoking SWAT for the first time ... it asks for a password, i type in "root" and the linux-root password. no luck. have I skipped a step?
