[01:46]<cn7y>is it safe to have a machine name with the same name as the domain?
[01:49]<ddsjg>erm... I don't know if this is a problem or not, but generally I don't think it is a really good idea :)
[02:56]<fz2pzzdz>im unable to allow acce to guest. what have i to do?
[02:58]<fz2pzzdz>im unable to allow acces to the guest. what have i to do?
[04:18]<fz2pzzdz>!samba
[04:19]<fz2pzzdz>tell to FabParma about samba
[06:35]<v00d>hi
[06:36]<v00d>i've got a login problem with a WinXP x64 on samba 3.0.14
[06:36]<v00d>it says: A remote procedure call (RPC) protocol error occurred.
[06:37]<v00d>i've been googling around for a while but couldn't find a solution for it
[06:39]<v00d>found 2 threads dealing with that problem but they're both a year old and don't really tell how to fix the problem
[06:39]<gmmugmj_v>t00m, have you tested with a Win XP 32 bit os?
[06:40]<v00d>yes, 32bit works find
[06:40]<v00d>fine
[06:40]<v00d>this is the first 64 bit machine in the domain
[06:41]<gmmugmj_v>you can look at bugzilla if its really a bug or was fixed in any other release
[06:41]<gmmugmj_v>I used already 64bit machines with that version of samba
[06:41]<gmmugmj_v>but with 32 bit OS
[06:42]<v00d>yes, that's working
[06:50]<v00d>doesn't seem to be listed in bugzilla
[07:13]<cwwvx>Anyone know a way of intergrating windows / linux auth ? we have windows and linux servers (we are a school). And when kids forget a password its a PITA... anyone know of a way atm the linux box is running LDAP and the windows servers are Active Directory.
[07:14]<cwwvx>ATM Windows is doing the file sharing + AD, Linux is doing email - websites - external file storage - VLE
[07:18]<gmmugmj_v>k31th, I didnt understood what is the problem with lost passwords
[07:19]<cwwvx>edmundo_v: its not that, i would like to have 1 password for every thing
[07:19]<cwwvx>if thats possible.
[07:19]<gmmugmj_v>and thats it stays stored in AD?
[07:19]<cwwvx>which ever works tbh.
[07:19]<cwwvx>iv been reading about ldap
[07:21]<gmmugmj_v>you can integrate samba with AD through winbind, but then it doesnt have the rest that you need
[07:21]<gmmugmj_v>email attributes, etc
[07:21]<cwwvx>all i need to do is have the same user and pass
[07:22]<cwwvx>but when i have to reseta users pass resettting one would be alot beytter than chan ging it in 3 places
[07:22]<gmmugmj_v>AD, LDAP, and what is the third?
[07:23]<cwwvx>that was an example. it should only be two places now i have ldap setup on the linux server.
[07:23]<sndf_>hi
[07:23]<cwwvx>hi
[07:24]<gmmugmj_v>k31th, samba you can integrate, but your email or any website auth I wouldnt know
[07:24]<cwwvx>ok.
[07:25]<gmmugmj_v>you can even use your ldap to store the idmaps from winbind
[07:25]<sndf_>i am using the hamachi program but i dont know how to get file sharing working
[07:27]<cwwvx>It must be a common thing what im asking for for sites with linux and windows.
[07:27]<cwwvx>machines,
[07:27]<cwwvx>i gues the other option would be to make a script ?
[07:28]<gmmugmj_v>to change it in ldap is easy through perl, in AD I dont know
[07:29]<gmmugmj_v>if I remeber right you can even extend the AD schema to store unix accounts information
[07:30]<srvrrnlxl>Anyone up?
[07:30]<gmmugmj_v>yes
[07:30]<srvrrnlxl>What determines what user files are created as using samba?
[07:30]<srvrrnlxl>I'm using samba as a pdc
[07:31]<srvrrnlxl>When I create files or directories, how do I set what group it's created with?
[07:31]<gmmugmj_v>I didnt undertood
[07:31]<gmmugmj_v>normally its the user primary group
[07:31]<srvrrnlxl>When I create files or directories from windows
[07:31]<srvrrnlxl>hmm
[07:31]<srvrrnlxl>ok, how do I change a persons primary group?
[07:31]<gmmugmj_v>or, you can force it with the "force ..." options
[07:32]<gmmugmj_v>or make a directory SUID GID
[07:32]<gmmugmj_v>to inherit the group owner
[07:32]<srvrrnlxl>hmm
[07:32]<gmmugmj_v>with force, you force inside the entire share
[07:33]<srvrrnlxl>Alright...that gives me what a I need then
[07:33]<srvrrnlxl>Thanks edmundo_v
[07:33]<cwwvx>edmundo_v: im looking up winbind
[07:37]<gmmugmj_v>if you end up changing againg the password in two places because of other services, I would recommend to stay with ldap
[07:45]<gunsv791q1tt17>i am trying to set samba as pdc. I have configured samba
[07:45]<gunsv791q1tt17>but when I try to set my windows machine to domain
[07:45]<gunsv791q1tt17>it cannot be done
[07:45]<gunsv791q1tt17>any ideas
[07:47]<gunsv791q1tt17>Can nobody help ?
[07:57]<gmmugmj_v>Guest643235536, have you configured the "add machine script" properly? Are you using an account that have rights to join a machine?
[07:58]<gunsv791q1tt17>what I have is I have created a netlogon and configured it in smb.conf
[07:58]<gunsv791q1tt17>there was no mention of add machine script
[07:58]<gunsv791q1tt17>can you let me know what it is
[07:59]<gunsv791q1tt17>if you mean this
[08:00]<gmmugmj_v>http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/domain-member.html#id2538282
[08:05]<gunsv791q1tt17>ok I have not written a script but i used the command and added my machine name
[08:06]<gunsv791q1tt17>and it got added correctly
[08:06]<gmmugmj_v>theres a section explaining how to add account by hand too, have you done that way?
[08:07]<gunsv791q1tt17>yes I have and for the first time it had worked but when I check it again today it is not ready to add the machine to domain
[08:08]<gjrxnss>hi all...
[08:08]<gjrxnss>is it possible to umount all mount's with -t smbfs?
[08:09]<gunsv791q1tt17>anything other thing to check edmundo_v
[08:09]<gmmugmj_v>I didnt understood what do you mean by "not ready", it worked or not?
[08:11]<gunsv791q1tt17>i mean it worked once and now when I try to add my machine to domain it says NT_ domain failure
[08:11]<gmmugmj_v>another machine?
[08:11]<gunsv791q1tt17>smclient _l localhost does not give any output
[08:12]<gunsv791q1tt17>same machine . I removed the domain and try adding it again to domains and it gave the error
[08:12]<gmmugmj_v>smbclient -L localhost -U% must list the shares of the server and say whos the master browser
[08:13]<gmmugmj_v>have you removed the account from passwd and samba?
