[00:00]<zsvnnfn>Hm...that quote was from the official docs by Andrew Tridgell and John Terpstra nad the like
[00:01]<zsvnnfn>So, I think that it's okay for it to spawn a bunch of smbd's...so long as they're torn down when the connection is closed from the client end.
[00:04]<ddsjg>hmm
[00:40]<dycnjw>how do i enable my computer to connect to samba
[00:40]<dycnjw>keeps giving access denied
[00:48]<fuygvyg>What do I need in my samba.conf to make auto homedir shares?
[00:48]<fuygvyg>it says in file that it's setup for them, but smbclient -L doesn't list any
[00:50]<dycnjw>how do i enable anonymous access?
[00:50]<dycnjw>keeps giving access denied to everyone
[00:50]<dycnjw>including users on the system
[01:03]<dycnjw>got it to work, samba is sweet
[01:15]<fuygvyg>is anyone in here awake/
[01:15]<fuygvyg>I'm having some issues with connecting to samba shares from a windows client
[01:46]<zsvnnfn>'lo all
[01:47]<zsvnnfn>gotta question: When a windows box closes a share on a samba server, the smbd process still runs, and smbstatus still thinks there is a live connection to the share. moreover, the daemon process never ends
[01:47]<zsvnnfn>this is samba 3.0.22
[01:48]<zsvnnfn>anybody ever experience that? i'd hate to have to use the dead time option
[01:48]<zsvnnfn>seems like such a hack
[02:29]<zsvnnfn>Ok, well I posted to the samba mailing list. Maybe Jeremy Allison has an answer...of course, that's different from telling my clients to use Linux :)
[02:29]<zsvnnfn>g'night
[03:37]<xrlld000>hi
[03:37]<xrlld000>I have a new install of debian
[03:37]<xrlld000>and watnt o acess my compans file server using a samba client
[03:37]<xrlld000>how do i do it?
[03:38]<xrlld000>I know my company's domain and have the smb.conf of a big server that is doing it already
[06:29]<zndcjddyn>im having trouble limiting the privileges of the guest account since it allows enumeration of my samba server, anybody had success with such a problem?
[06:43]<gunsv791q1tt17>hi all
[06:43]<gunsv791q1tt17>can anyone tell me if samba works as a pdc with windows home xp
[06:43]<zndcjddyn>yup
[06:44]<gunsv791q1tt17>I understand that it works with professional xp .
[06:44]<gunsv791q1tt17>How can you do that
[06:44]<gunsv791q1tt17>I see no option for converting it to domains in home xp
[06:44]<zndcjddyn>ahh home
[06:44]<zndcjddyn>yeah i use pro only
[06:44]<zndcjddyn>so I think home is not possible, not really sure tho
[06:45]<gunsv791q1tt17>yeah I got it to work with windows professional but home xp I cannot see the option for converting to domain
[06:46]<zndcjddyn>have you played around with the $IPC share and the guest account?
[06:47]<gunsv791q1tt17>nope can you give a link so that I can check that out
[06:48]<zndcjddyn>well its not related to your prob, just asking if you've done anything with IPC
[06:57]<zjd2yn>Does Samba 3 Support a command similar to the Windows 2000 "AT" command?
[06:59]<gunsv791q1tt17>redkommie : I have not checked that out , but as far as i have searched it says home xp is not supported
[06:59]<zjd2yn>Guest643235536: Supported gfor what?
[07:01]<gunsv791q1tt17>I was trying if samba as pdc works with home xp
[10:35]<ywcsn>hi all. Anybody knows why i can't mount a smbfs when i'm root? I get this error: 17447: session setup failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.)
[10:35]<ywcsn>with a normal user i don't get this error
[11:01]<cnfnsvzz>iwkse: because "root" doesn't have a samba account probably
[11:03]<cnfnsvzz>iwkse: run "smbpasswd -e root", if you have no such user you have two options: 1) create a samba account for user root (possibly not recommended), 2) tell the mount command to use another username to authenticate (-o username=jane_doe)
[11:03]<ywcsn>thanks Celestar
[11:03]<cnfnsvzz>np
[11:04]<2frvxyas>Celestar: Hey, why are you here? :-)
[11:07]<cnfnsvzz>blathijs: why not?
[11:07]<2frvxyas>:-)
[11:07]<cnfnsvzz>blathijs: my openttd development is halted until rules have been put into place
[11:10]<2frvxyas>Celestar: So you're looking for other stuff to do now? :-)
[11:10]<cnfnsvzz>unfortunately, I have tons of other stuff to do :(
[11:12]<cnfnsvzz>blathijs: some of this stuff invovles setting up samba + LDAP + kerberos.
[11:12]<2frvxyas>hehe
[11:12]<cnfnsvzz>blathijs: ideas?
[11:12]<2frvxyas>Celestar: dunno, I have been working on setting up samba in a 2k3 domain
[11:12]<2frvxyas>Celestar: never used samba as DC before :-)
[11:13]<cnfnsvzz>I have a Samba PDC
[11:13]<2frvxyas>I did do samba as standalone fileserver with LDAP though
[11:13]<cnfnsvzz>I once even did a samba PDC with LDAP backend
[11:13]<cnfnsvzz>I'm not sure how to get kerberos into play.
[11:21]<2frvxyas>Celestar: never done that, sorry
[11:23]<cnfnsvzz>anyone else? ;)
[11:30]<ddsjg>blathijs: I'm using this
[11:38]<zdlsddzuzj>hello
[11:39]<zdlsddzuzj>I'm tring to configure winbind to show NT domain's users, but I got this error :
[11:39]<zdlsddzuzj> winbindd version 3.0.22 started.
[11:39]<zdlsddzuzj> Copyright The Samba Team 2000-2004
[11:39]<zdlsddzuzj>[2006/06/13 08:36:33, 0] nsswitch/winbindd.c:main(1071)
[11:39]<zdlsddzuzj> unable to initalize domain list
[11:39]<zdlsddzuzj>there is a way to have more log?
[11:42]<ajz_>increase your log level in smb.conf
[11:43]<ggjgrvus>re *
[11:44]<zdlsddzuzj>u r right cor_
[11:44]<ggjgrvus>is there anything special one has to do to see a list of users on domain member server (samba) when samba (PDC) has domain trust established with another NT domain?
[11:44]<ggjgrvus>I see the users with winbind on PDC, but not on the domain member server
[11:45]<zdlsddzuzj>I suppose I don't need to install samba to show just user, winbind will be enough?
[11:46]<ajz_>gypsymauro: i know nothing about domains and all, sorry
[12:02]<cnfnsvzz>gypsymauro: did you add the samba comp to the domain?
[12:10]<vrsdf>hello I would need a little bit of ssecurity help please
[12:12]<vrsdf>I I have security = share and was wondering if its possible to make files owned by apache/apache or something else be concidered as if they were nobody/nogroup (wich seems the only files that I can modify/erase from windows)?
[12:14]<zdlsddzuzj>Celestar: I need this?
[12:17]<zdlsddzuzj>Celestar: yes I need:) now it works tanx
[12:23]<vrsdf>if I understand correctly I need to set guest account = to something that has a higher UID than the user I want to be able to modify the files of?
[12:44]<ggjgrvus>did anyone here manage to get domain member server to see users from a trusted domain?
[12:45]<ddsjg>neonatus: no, but I know it works... somebody from the samba team showed this on LinuxWorld Europe a few years ago :)
[12:55]<cnfnsvzz>back
[12:55]<cnfnsvzz>sorry gypsymauro had to go to a meeting
[12:56]<ggjgrvus>Dyson, I followed the docs and pdc sees the users/groups via winbind, but member server does not..
