[00:00]<||aw>Dragoonz: pam stuff?
[00:00]<||aw>getent passwd username work?
[00:00]<||aw>debugging pam is quite a pain
[00:00]<derrjjge>they work great
[00:00]<sgzdgdvd>Dragoonz, did you join the domain ? (If it's a PDC you're connecting to...)
[00:01]<derrjjge>maybe i started the services out of order
[00:01]<derrjjge>i did but i will rejoin really quick
[00:01]<sgzdgdvd>You try to connect from a windows or a *nix ?
[00:01]<||aw>if you rejoin, besure to remove secrets.tdb
[00:02]<||aw>otherwise it doesn't "unjoin"
[00:03]<derrjjge>Serinity: windows 2000
[00:03]<derrjjge>secrets.tbd? where is that at linux or windows?
[00:03]<sgzdgdvd>did you login as root user to let your machine join the domain ?
[00:07]<derrjjge>well wbinfo -t was working
[00:07]<derrjjge>wbinfo -u works
[00:07]<derrjjge>wbinfo -g works
[00:08]<derrjjge>wbinfo -passwd say that i can't check in clear te4xt
[00:09]<derrjjge>hmmm
[00:11]<derrjjge>restarted services and wbinfo -t comes back as gsuccess
[00:11]<derrjjge>i did net ads join after doing kinit administrator and pass
[00:13]<||aw>hm,
[00:14]<derrjjge>Sid S-0-0 is not valid format -- that ring a bell?
[00:15]<||aw>Dragoonz: what about wbinfo -a user%password
[00:15]<||aw>net groupmap list
[00:16]<||aw>yeah you shouldn't have S-0-0
[00:16]<derrjjge>on the net groupmap list i get domain admins and print opperators and such
[00:17]<||aw>S-1-5* ?
[00:17]<||aw>32 means local group, 21 means domain group
[00:17]<derrjjge>S-1-5-21
[00:18]<derrjjge>and wbinfo -a user%password give me can't send in plaintext
[00:18]<derrjjge>so i don't have kerberos or something working right for authenication it seems
[00:21]<fzfzjz>is this a music channel?
[00:21]<derrjjge>i'm about out of time guys... i'm going to read over some of the time tonight and see if i can't come up with an answer...
[00:22]<derrjjge>i just need to get winbind to authenicate with a encrypted password and i'm good
[00:22]<fzfzjz>oh, not a music channel
[00:22]<derrjjge>Falgor: no it is not
[00:22]<fzfzjz>what a pity.
[00:22]<fzfzjz>well
[00:22]<fzfzjz>cya then
[00:22]<fzfzjz>samba server :)
[00:27]<derrjjge>Serinity and ||cw: thanks for the help. I think that I will backup my pam files. and recompile. I may have left something off as i don't have a pam_stack.so don't really know if it is needed as i have not seen it other than the samba wiki you pointed me to
[00:28]<sgzdgdvd>heh, i did nothing, I don't have enough knowledge with samba to help :)
[00:28]<sgzdgdvd>but thanks anyways :)
[00:29]<||aw>Dragoonz: what distro?
[00:29]<derrjjge>kubuntu 6.06
[00:29]<derrjjge>i don't know how to tell what ver of samba/pam/winbind i'm running
[00:30]<sgzdgdvd>hum
[00:30]<derrjjge>krb5 is the kerberos though
[00:30]<sgzdgdvd>if it's like in debian, most likely dpkg -l | grep -i samba
[00:30]<derrjjge>and i use the apt-get to get the winbind and samba updates
[00:30]<||aw>hm, you shouldn't need pam_stack, and you should only need to mess with the common-* files
[00:31]<||aw>what was this about recompile them?
[00:31]<derrjjge>figured if i just DLed it and recomplied i might be better off
[00:31]<sgzdgdvd>I don't think so... just use apt-get...
[00:32]<derrjjge>kk
[00:32]<derrjjge>think that i should just read on pam security a little bit more
[00:32]<sgzdgdvd>Well, i'm debian developper so i'm biased but it certainly the best way to go
[00:32]<sgzdgdvd>hum
[00:32]<sgzdgdvd>hold on, maintener, not developper
[00:33]<||aw>upgraded a breezy to dapper on my samba server that has winbind to nt4 domain, didn't have any probs at all
[00:35]<derrjjge>i just have a config issue... but i'm learning
[00:43]<trffu>hey umm. i get an Error writing 4 bytes to client. -1. (Connection reset by peer) on the samba logs when i try to authenticate a win box to it. the username/pass exist on the server and there are shares so i dont really see whats wrong
[00:45]<dnrrjjrn_rjrnxjd>take care guys.. will hack at it again tomoroow
[00:54]<vzundyfc>hi
[00:54]<vzundyfc>somebody?
[00:56]<vzundyfc>hi have some questions bout samba and ldap as pdc...
[00:59]<snv>Hey... when you upload something to a *nix box using Samba. Will the receiving box also use upload speed?
[01:00]<snv>My download is: 4000 KB/s and the upload is 179 KB/s ... TCP replies?
[01:35]<-- rjrvcxrrr xrs fuy>http://www.jpg.com")
[01:47]<2rgdrg>I am having an issue with samba running as a server on FC5 to a win xp pro box. The xp pro box can't connect to the shares. It can see the shares but I have permission issues actually seeing any of the contents.
[01:48]<pzrgc->check the file permissions, logs
[01:48]<2rgdrg>File permissions should be OK...
[01:49]<pzrgc->is it?
[01:49]<pzrgc->make sure.
[01:50]<2rgdrg>Yes, the directory is drwxrwxr-x banyan users
[01:50]<2rgdrg>The windows user is mapped to banyan...
[01:51]<2rgdrg>the stuff under the shared directory is likewise the same permissions.
[01:52]<2rgdrg>Now, I have to fess up that the way I created this is to just leap right into system-config-samba and do it.
[01:52]<2rgdrg>Does it maybe have a characteristic way of garbling things?
[01:58]<2rgdrg>Is there something special about /var? The share is to a subdirectory under /var. Is that a no-no of some sort?
[01:59]<pzrgc->huh
[01:59]<pzrgc->don't allow users to write under /var
[01:59]<2rgdrg>This would be /var/devel
[01:59]<pzrgc->not a good idea
[01:59]<2rgdrg>a specific development directory.
[01:59]<2rgdrg>Oh, ok...
[01:59]<pzrgc->but it can work
[02:00]<pzrgc->under the share
[02:00]<2rgdrg>where would a person typically put source code for development?
[02:00]<pzrgc->read only = no
[02:00]<pzrgc->under /src or /usr/src
[02:00]<brt>/usr/src :)?
[02:00]<2rgdrg>oh, ok!
[02:00]<brt>/usr/local/src
[02:01]<pzrgc->whatever
[02:01]<pzrgc->read only = no, publix = yes
[02:01]<pzrgc->will make it writable, definitely
[02:24]<2rgdrg>Did that, in fact, moved the /var stuff to /usr/src, but it still tells me I don't have permission to use the resource.
[02:25]<gmmugmj_v>banyan, what OS are you using?
[02:25]<2rgdrg>FC5 on the samba server end,
