[00:07]<nnajs>goodness
[00:07]<nnajs>this doesn't make very much since...
[00:08]<nnajs>i have a HP 4000 printer on share from cups usings samba, no problems installing on a windows machine
[00:08]<nnajs>but a 2280 inkjet (also shared through samba) asks for inf files
[00:35]<jjcrdy>I have to systems accessing the same share. Sometimes it takes forever until the second machine notices filechanges after the first machine changed something. Any ideas how to change that?
[00:37]<prrrgvsrrg>how long?
[00:37]<jjcrdy>up to 5 secs
[00:43]<jjcrdy>the story is that on the second computer we have a lisp programm running that reads its input from a file. So every second or so, it probes whether the input file exists. But even if it does exist it takes a while for the lisp program to recognize it. But curiously, if we run ls in a shell the file shows up right away, without any delay.
[02:00]<dzzdzz>hi, is ldap based domain control could be done with samba?
[03:08]<lyxxrg>magyar, it is possible
[03:09]<dzzdzz>pihhan: ahh
[03:11]<lyxxrg>check for smbldap tools and migrationtools
[03:11]<lyxxrg>i will go to sleep
[03:17]<lyxxrg>good night everyone
[03:34]<wrfuw>hi all, I have a problem with samba. I tried installing the latest 3.0 rc and now nothing works, I went back to older version but no help. The problem is that nmbd cannot find the pdc, an nmblookup searches in 127.255.255.255, but this is wrong
[03:34]<wrfuw>How can I tell samba the correct broadcast ?
[03:36]<wrfuw>if I use nmblookup with the -B option the pdc is found... But it should work out of the box I guess and it did in the past
[03:37]<dzzdzz>halux: smb.conf?
[03:37]<wrfuw>ok, and where ?
[03:37]<dzzdzz>man smb.conf?
[03:37]<wrfuw>at least a search for broadcast didn't help
[03:38]<wrfuw>mhm, maybe I was a little to fast...
[03:38]<wrfuw>but why has it worked before, I haven't changed my smb.conf and never set this on any machine
[03:39]<wrfuw>using 127.255.255.255 is just wrong
[03:40]<dzzdzz>halux: bug?
[03:40]<wrfuw>yes, but at least I thought I switched back to the working version
[03:41]<wrfuw>arrr
[03:41]<wrfuw>magyar: sorry you are right, everything fine
[03:42]<wrfuw>too late for me, smb.conf has bond0 and lo configured as interfaces
[03:42]<wrfuw>bond0 isn't available anymore...
[03:42]<dzzdzz>oh girl
[03:42]<wrfuw>yeah
[03:44]<dzzdzz>halux: man testparm
[03:45]<wrfuw>magyar: thanks, just too late for me. Had an fileserver crash and like to go home now. Usually I have a better look on my files before crying ;)
[03:48]<dzzdzz>had a few long knights
[03:48]<dzzdzz>nights
[03:48]<dzzdzz>:)
[03:49]<wrfuw>hehe
[04:42]<wrfuw>n8@all
[05:25]<alzyrjv>I have a problem where any of 3 users' smbd (3.0.22) processes go compute bound while everyone else's is fine.
[07:12]<vzj>can samba serve as a replacement for nfs? i'm willing to sacrifice speed as long as it works
[09:52]<lfjls>moin
[09:56]<sggmzj>hi
[09:58]<-- wgrvwsygc wrs puy>3) bad = 1;")
[12:03]<sdfvnz>Hi guys :D
[12:07]<sdfvnz>I'm trying to set up a samba 3.0.22 server for file sharing only ! It works perfectly for shares with "guest ok = yes", but with shares with "valid users = sylver", it doesn't work !
[12:08]<sdfvnz>i have "security = user" and "passdb backend = tdbsam"
[12:08]<sdfvnz>i added my sylver user using "pdbedit -a -u sylver"
[12:09]<sdfvnz>"smbclient -L server -U sylver" works well if i enter the right password and fails if i enter a bad password
[12:11]<sdfvnz>"smbmount //server/torrent /tmp/smb -o username=sylver, password=password" fails with "tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.)" whatever password i put
[12:11]<sdfvnz>any idea ?
[12:55]<sggmzj>anyone got any issues
[14:09]<sdfvnz>Could anyone help me configuring my samba server ?
[14:25]<pz2nz1>i configured a network printer with print command = "cp "%s" /tmp/eat", but windows cannot print to this printer and gives me the error "could not start document". any ideas?
[14:33]<sdfvnz>i'm wondering if there is someone alive here ...
[14:34]<sdfvnz>There are people that need help, but nobody to help them :(
[14:37]<sggmzj>sylver, whats up...
[14:37]<sggmzj>people are very busy doing their own thing.
[14:38]<sggmzj>say ur question first.
[14:38]<sldncnd>hello!
[14:40]<sldncnd>i would like to set up lam+samba+ldap as a pdc for samba and unix logins on debian (dapper).
[14:40]<sldncnd>are there some example sldapd.conf and smb.conf files?
[14:41]<wygxlnzvs_>samba 3 by example at samba.org
[14:42]<sdfvnz>sendro : my question is in the channel, just check few lines behind ;) Thanks for you help ;)
[14:43]<sldncnd>winXperts: i will need a special slapd.conf file for it right? So that lam can work with its structrue?
[14:43]<sldncnd>structure/db design
[14:44]<ffjlsdlnvn>whats the difference between 'add machine script' and 'add user script'? the O'Reilly book 'Using Samba' 2nd edn says to use 'add user script' for joining a workstation to a domain, but isn't 'add machine script' for that?
[14:45]<ffjlsdlnvn>I used to use 'add user script' for this with Samba 2.2
[14:46]<sdfvnz>I rebooted my machine, and now shares with password are working ! So no more questions for me :D
[14:50]<sggmzj>sylver, there is plentyu
[14:50]<sggmzj>u shouldnt have to reboot.
[14:50]<sggmzj>
[14:51]<sggmzj>just depends what u wangt
[14:51]<sggmzj>want *
[14:53]<sdfvnz>i know i should have not, but i've made a lot of changes in my smb.conf and may have forgotten to restart samba, so it should be why it didn't work ;)
[14:56]<sggmzj>sylver, what did you use to populate your ldap database ?
[14:58]<sdfvnz>pdbedit -a -u username
[14:59]<sdfvnz>It's a small network with 6 workstations
[15:09]<mrsn>hey guys, trying to set up a samba share which has 1 share which is password protected (working) and another which is open for everyone
[15:09]<mrsn>which isn't working
[15:10]<sdfvnz>Mase : it's what i've just sucessfully done :)
[15:11]<mrsn>http://pastebin.ca/80435
[15:11]<mrsn>sylver, awesome, would you mind having a look at my config and telling me what i've done wrong
[15:11]<mrsn>:)
[15:11]<sdfvnz>sure ;)
[15:12]<sdfvnz>add this in global section : "passdb backend = tdbsam"
[15:13]<sdfvnz>hum just a question before that : what version of samba are u using ?
[15:14]<sdfvnz>2.x.x or 3.x.x ?
[15:14]<sdfvnz>Mase ?
[15:14]<mrsn>3.0.22
[15:14]<mrsn>sorry
[15:14]<sdfvnz>ok perfect
[15:15]<sdfvnz>then create your user with "pdbedit -a -u am" as am is your username
[15:15]<mrsn>do i need to remove the passwd program = ...
