[00:06]<slmmnzqct>sorry was afk
[00:07]<slmmnzqct>ummm i am trying to access my linux box from my xbox there is no pinging test from there
[00:23]<lyxxrg>have anyone here experimence with local replicated ldap databases with samba?
[00:32]<nbjmd>what about kerberos for samba??
[00:32]<nbjmd>anybody?
[00:37]<lyxxrg>ldap masters wanted also?
[00:37]<lyxxrg>where are you? :)
[00:38]<nbjmd>right, where is someone when u need them.
[00:38]<nbjmd>pihhan, ur getting ldap up and i'm getting kerberos
[00:38]<nbjmd>do u know the differences in the two?
[00:44]<lyxxrg>kerberos is more secure
[00:44]<lyxxrg>but ldap is hard to understand to me, and kerberos is many times difficult to understand to me
[00:44]<nbjmd>harder to config it seems
[00:45]<nbjmd>there's not much documentation on kerberos, usefull anyways
[00:45]<lyxxrg>i have ldap replication, but i cant use slaves for changing anything
[00:47]<||aw>kerbos in a samba pdc is a bit of a hack
[00:47]<||aw>can be done, but way "not easy"
[00:50]<lyxxrg>is it possible to have bdc using replicated slave ldap?
[00:51]<nbjmd>the only docs i have found use Active Directory imp of Kerberos
[00:51]<nbjmd>and not a real unix kerberos services
[00:51]<nbjmd>do i need an ADS server, or will Krb5 be able to handle it?
[01:03]<amv6n>hey you guuuuuys:)
[01:03]<amv6n>isn't this the place that spawned tdb?
[01:17]<nbjmd>tdb?
[01:20]<nbjmd>how do i config nfs to use kerberos?
[01:23]<amv6n>tdb isn't pretty
[01:28]<nbjmd>do u know about kerberos?
[01:50]<2yvvylnz>Here's a quick question: I have shared a directory in samba called storage. The group "Domain Admins" has full permissions to it. I am a member of the domain admins in my ldap directory yet I can't drop any files into it.
[01:50]<2yvvylnz>Here's the section of my samba file that points at storage:
[01:50]<2yvvylnz>[Main]
[01:50]<2yvvylnz> comment = Main Share
[01:50]<2yvvylnz> path = /storage
[01:50]<2yvvylnz> public = yes
[01:50]<2yvvylnz> writable = yes
[01:50]<2yvvylnz> create mask = 0765
[01:51]<2yvvylnz> browseable = yes
[01:51]<2yvvylnz>can anyone give any troubleshooting tips?
[02:09]<auvr_2rvvjrr>ok i am new to makeing a linux server and i am kinda stuck maybe one of you can help out a goof like me
[02:09]<auvr_2rvvjrr>i am useing ubuntu-server with ssh installed and samba installed
[02:09]<auvr_2rvvjrr>i want to make a file server that not only my ubuntu box can see but any windows computer on the network can edit and delete or add files
[02:10]<auvr_2rvvjrr>can someone please help me to do this?
[02:10]<auvr_2rvvjrr>i have absolutely no idea what i am doing :P
[02:10]<pzrgc->follow a howto on samba.org
[02:10]<pzrgc->it's ver straightforward
[02:16]<auvr_2rvvjrr>i don't know which howto i need.... i just know what i am trying to do
[02:18]<pzrgc->a basic share in a basic workgroup is sufficient
[02:20]<gmmugmj_v>cute_bettong, samba has two books in the site, one explains how samba works and how its configured and the other are examples step by step
[02:21]<gmmugmj_v>but ubuntu comes with a config that should already work without needing to mess with it
[02:21]<gmmugmj_v>and has a graphical interface to add shares
[02:21]<auvr_2rvvjrr>frank-, thats what i am trying to do my networks are setup with windows default ubuntu-desktop detected the windows shares just beutifully....this is my first time installing ubuntu-server
[02:21]<auvr_2rvvjrr>which has no gui and i am unsure how to set what i want to do up
[02:22]<pzrgc->learn to live without the gui, IMO
[02:22]<auvr_2rvvjrr>if i wanted to tax the mem and cpu i could always sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop XD
[02:22]<auvr_2rvvjrr>thats what i want to do
[02:22]<auvr_2rvvjrr>and what is makeing it hard
[02:22]<auvr_2rvvjrr>lol
[02:23]<pzrgc->and as edmundo_v said, the ubuntu samba should be moderatly well configured already, perhaps only requiring you to change the workgroup name
[02:31]<2yvvylnz>Has anyone ever encountered the error "A device attached to the system is not functioning?" when trying to use the windows user manager to manage a domain run by samba?
[02:37]<pzrgc->cute_bettong: hope that helps
[02:59]<mnmjerssvr>hi - i desperatly need some help with samba
[02:59]<mnmjerssvr>anybody here?
[03:00]<2yvvylnz>I've never had a question answered here.
[03:01]<mnmjerssvr>hmmm
[03:01]<mnmjerssvr>can you help bitviper?
[03:02]<pzrgc->bitviper: we try to help, but we're busy too
[03:02]<pzrgc->people do get help
[03:02]<guff2gw>ok so now i got it so both of my machines are on the same domain w/ samba, but now i cant get the windows box access to the linux box.. it just gives me a permissions error on windows
[03:02]<mnmjerssvr>well following situation: running samba 3.0.22 on suse 10.1 - i have a folder called /data/work - with rights 770 medozas:ccgmbh
[03:02]<mnmjerssvr>[work]
[03:02]<mnmjerssvr> comment = CC Computer Consultants GmbH - Work
[03:02]<mnmjerssvr> path = /data/work
[03:02]<mnmjerssvr> valid users = medozas
[03:02]<mnmjerssvr> writeable = yes
[03:02]<mnmjerssvr> force group = ccgmbh
[03:04]<mnmjerssvr>why cant i access that folder at all ? (sorry for long post) [2006/07/07 01:52:38, 2] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(307)
[03:04]<mnmjerssvr> check_ntlm_password: authentication for user [Medozas] -> [Medozas] -> [medozas] succeeded
[03:04]<mnmjerssvr>[2006/07/07 01:52:38, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(670)
[03:04]<mnmjerssvr> '/data/work' does not exist or permission denied when connecting to [work] Error was Access Denied
[03:04]<mnmjerssvr>if i add "admin users = medozas" it works
[03:05]<mnmjerssvr>but i do not wish to add admin users capabilities to all users
[03:08]<mnmjerssvr>anybody can help, please?
[03:09]<pzrgc->I gotta run
[03:09]<pzrgc->sorry support
[03:10]<mnmjerssvr>thanks though
[03:32]<gmmugmj_v>MedozasSVR, try commenting out the valid users option
[04:40]<dud2xrac>I'm not quite sure what I did. I changed the IP address, restarted the computer, then changed the IP address back again, restarted the computer, and now samba won't run. When I run "/etc/init.d/smb start" (how I normally initiate it) it just hangs. Please help!
[05:22]<jysrj>You have a fine manual explaining the basic concepts in Samba to recommend for a non-tech newbie in that field?
[05:24]<wygxlnzvs>samba how to collection has all you need to know
[05:24]<wygxlnzvs>at samba.org
[05:25]<brt>What kerberos services are necessary to run for AD?
[05:25]<jysrj>I have been browsing through them. They assume a basic knowledge I don't have, so I was wondering if there was more of a "first step into samba".
[05:27]<jysrj>Tx anyway, winXperts
[05:31]<sjd2znzj>I'm using Samba 3.0.20a on a ClarkConnect 3.2r1 standalone server with a gigabit ethernet connection to a single workstation. I am seeing very poor performance when using Samba (I seem to have a problem exceeding 30MB/s) to either Fedora Core 5 (also Samba 3) or Win XP SP2. I have noticed that the Samba server (ClarkConnect box) is also showing low CPU utilization, as if it is not even trying to go faster. FTP on the same setup gives me
[05:31]<sjd2znzj> a more acceptable 70MB/s transfer rate.
[05:31]<sjd2znzj>Where do I start looking for problems? I've read some other reports on this slowness and, funnily enough, there was mention of a "30MB/s barrier".
[05:34]<sjd2znzj>I'm using jumbo buffers (mtu=9000) and increased the send and receive buffers, but this only affects performance slightly. Any known issues with Samba 3 and SELinux perhaps?
[05:37]<sjd2znzj>jumbo frames even (why did I quit coffee? :P)
