[00:32]<pndduddd>my directory /mountpoint has user/group permission set to myuser:mygroup, but when I "mount /mountpoint" then it changes to root:501
[00:33]<pndduddd>how can I force my linux to use myuser:mygroup ?
[00:34]<pndduddd>my fstab is "//server/share /mountpoint cifs user=sambauser,pass=password,dom=Workgroup,iocharset=utf8,codepage=cp850,rw 0 0"
[00:35]<pndduddd>I also had gid=500,uid=500 but that did not change anything

[01:26]<svjrnrrvn>Hi all !
[01:28]<svjrnrrvn>i got a question: i use Samba 3.0.21c on my linux box and have multiple windows XP clients connected to it via a 100 mbit LAN. I use roaming profiles and they are around 90-100 mb large. Logon is going fast.. but logging off and shutting my PC down takes about 10-12 Minutes! Can anyone help me with that problem?
[01:39]<ajgvnzvnz>Stonegate: do the samba logs offer any useful information? if not, look at man smb.conf for information on increasing logging verbosity with the 'log level' option.
[01:39]<svjrnrrvn>hi converter.. let me check the logs
[01:45]<svjrnrrvn>all i see is this in log.nmbd:
[01:45]<svjrnrrvn>[2006/07/09 00:38:22, 0] nmbd/nmbd_browsesync.c:get_domain_master_name_node_status_fail(488)
[01:45]<svjrnrrvn>get_domain_master_name_node_status_fail:
[01:45]<svjrnrrvn>Doing a node status request to the domain master browser at IP 10.0.0.253 failed.
[01:45]<svjrnrrvn>Cannot get workgroup name.

[05:07]<laaga>hey everyone, I'm trying to setup a samba server as a PDC. where can I find information on setting up permissions through the PDC?

[05:49]<-- gjmrm9ww xrs fuyv>http:www.devmatrix.org")
[08:14]<sufgzfyguw>hi. my client mechine to samba is win2000 and whenever I try to make this mechine join the domain it always complains that "user could not be found" while there is a user, which is the one I am trying to login through it
[08:14]<sufgzfyguw>what could be the problem
[08:28]<sufgzfyguw>hello
[08:28]<sufgzfyguw>anybody
[08:51]<sufgzfyguw>hello
[09:03]<sufgzfyguw>hello
[10:17]<mr_mymy>maybe someone can help me with my smbpasswd problem? http://phpfi.com/129162
[10:19]<mr_mymy>sorry, smbpasswd -a user solved my problem
[11:11]<xp_q700>i used to install samba 2 and it was working fine with me, this time i installed freebsd 5.4 and i installed samba3 in it
[11:11]<xp_q700>i cant get it start automatically even if i have samba.sh in my /etc/rc.d
[11:12]<xp_q700>and laso swat dont work
[11:12]<xp_q700>i start samba manually by type smbd
[11:12]<xp_q700>and when i type swat its wait for about a minute then give error alram clock
[11:12]<xp_q700>any solution ?
[11:14]<mjrrs>tried running nmbd too?
[11:14]<mjrrs>that usually helps.
[11:15]<xp_q700>its ran too
[11:15]<xp_q700>but manually too
[11:15]<xp_q700>first of all how can i get samba loaded automatically everytime
[11:15]<mjrrs>duno
[11:15]<xp_q700>its pain to type smbd everytime and the samba.sh script existing in rc.d
[11:15]<xp_q700>i thought of adding it to .xinitrc
[11:16]<mjrrs>well you thought wrong.
[11:16]<xp_q700>cause i have kdm start automatically everytime
[11:16]<xp_q700>so it can start with it
[11:16]<xp_q700>why wrong ?
[11:16]<xp_q700>what else i can do ?
[11:16]<xp_q700>and is it a known bug ?
[11:18]<mjrrs>edit the startup script with proper paths or whatever.
[11:19]<xp_q700>dongs if you have sometime i can send you the script and you tell me whats wrong in it
[11:19]<mjrrs>just fucking add /path/to/nmbd -D && /path/to/smbd -D into your fucking rc.local
[11:20]<xp_q700>why you use these bad words ?
[11:20]<xp_q700>if you dont like to offer help dont do
[11:26]<xp_q700>got it now guys i added #nmbd_enable="YES"
[11:26]<xp_q700>#smbd_enable="YES"
[11:26]<xp_q700>to my rc.conf and its worked
[11:26]<mjrrs>great.
[11:26]<xp_q700>but how about swat ?
[11:26]<xp_q700>is it have its own conf ?
[11:27]<mjrrs>i dont even know what that is
[11:27]<mjrrs>so youre on your own there
[11:27]<xp_q700>:) ok thanks man
[11:27]<xp_q700>i dont see any mention about swat in the samba.sh anyway
[11:27]<mjrrs>what do you need it for
[11:28]<xp_q700>i need to configure samba via web page
[11:31]<mjrrs>oic
[11:31]<mjrrs>ya that seems like a waste of time
[11:31]<sufgzfyguw>hello
[11:32]<mjrrs>hi.
[11:32]<sufgzfyguw>I whenever I try to join a domain it always...
[11:32]<sufgzfyguw>tells me that Logon failiure : unknown username or paswword
[11:33]<sufgzfyguw>but I am really using a user within the domain admin group
[11:33]<sufgzfyguw>and it's mapped as a unix group ntadmins
[11:33]<sufgzfyguw>and the users are within ntadmins
[11:33]<mjrrs>duno, never used samba for more than filesharing
[11:34]<mjrrs>and wouldnt recommend it either.
[11:34]<mjrrs>because it even sucks at that
[11:34]<sufgzfyguw>he he!
[11:34]<mjrrs>made a mistake of upgrading some machines which were actually being USED as file servers from samba2 to 3 and got totally fucked
[11:34]<mjrrs>random disk writes while seeking dropped to liek 150k/sec
[11:34]<sufgzfyguw>I know
[11:34]<mjrrs>from about 6meg/sec
[11:35]<mjrrs>on 100mbit
[11:35]<mjrrs>no solution after asking in here for weeks
[11:35]<sufgzfyguw>ah I can tell you the reason
[11:35]<mjrrs>jsut ended up going back to samba2
[11:35]<sufgzfyguw>I had that
[11:35]<mjrrs>no you wont, nobody knows hte reason
