[00:01]<fws>argh
[00:03]<fws>invalid users
[00:03]<fws>there you go
[00:03]<fws>debian has root added by default
[00:07]<dysxnxu>bah, net rpc vampire missed an account for some reason. how do I find out what the SID of the users is on the windows server so that I can make sure it matches? the windows box is win2k server
[00:10]<lxzjrrd>thanks, the problem was I was trying to test the root logon with smbclient specifying a share root doesn't have access to, and trying to get a computer to join the domain but the add machine script wasn't set up correctly.
[00:10]<lxzjrrd>all fixed now.
[00:11]<|{gvyg>lws, sorry.. got a phone call. Yes the machine is joined... everything else is working
[00:19]<xzezzm>starshine_away: In looking at that book online, I notice it seems to revolve around Samba 2.x, do you happen to know if a newer edition is out that covers 3.x?
[00:35]<lnllnz2j2>hi people!
[00:35]<lnllnz2j2>i need to add a linux server as a domain member server to a Win2k domain controlled network. it's using ADS.
[00:36]<||aw>PepperBob: there's a howto on samba.org...
[00:36]<lnllnz2j2>now i'm a little confused: has this something to do with kerberos
[00:36]<lnllnz2j2>yes, i have the howto opened...
[00:38]<lnllnz2j2>is the "NT4-Type Domain" way a solution in my network w/ Win 2k and ADS or have i to go the kerberos way?
[00:38]<||aw>there's an ADS part too
[00:39]<||aw>look for kinit
[01:48]<fws>||cw: I have two interfaces with the same IP, how do I get samba to listen for broadcasts on both of them?
[02:01]<fws>||cw: or optionally, how can i send winpopup messages to a specific IP?
[02:16]<srxjllr>hi!
[02:16]<xzezzm>Hi!
[02:16]<pzrgc->net send?
[02:16]<xzezzm>HEh.
[02:17]<laaga>hey guys..
[02:18]<srxjllr>is it possible to execute commands in the netlogon script with administrator rights, e.g. to install software on the clients computers when loggin in?
[02:18]<laaga>I'm looking to setup a VPN with domain servers on both ends of the network
[02:18]<pzrgc->ok
[02:18]<laaga>what is the best way to set it up? do I use one primary domain controller?
[02:18]<laaga>and the other as the backup?
[02:18]<pgz-gugv>hi
[02:18]<fws>schoppa: if the user is an administrator
[02:19]<pgz-gugv>what's going on here? What's about talk?
[02:19]<pzrgc->what's about talk?
[02:19]<pzrgc->say that in english?
[02:19]<srxjllr>lws: no the users dont have admin rights. I'm thinking of something like "sudo" for the netlogon script
[02:20]<pgz-gugv>fuck you!
[02:20]<xzezzm>Much better!
[02:20]<xzezzm>That sentence was perfect, except for you should have capitalized "Fuck."
[02:21]<srxjllr>hehe
[02:21]<pzrgc->perect, but pointless
[02:21]<pzrgc->anyway
[02:21]<pzrgc->poonj: the PDC might conflict
[02:21]<fws>Wow you guys are tolerant, most people would have kicked him.
[02:21]<pzrgc->if I had ops.
[02:21]<xzezzm>I don't have the power. ;-)
[02:22]<xzezzm>Heh.
[02:22]<pzrgc->I would have kicked him in a heartbeat
[02:22]<pgz-gugv>Suck my DICK!
[02:22]<srxjllr>:-o
[02:22]<xzezzm>Ok. We have to at least give him credit for rapid improvement.
[02:22]<laaga>frank-, what do you mean by conflict?
[02:22]<pzrgc->hazard: I am an old school sarcastic patient yet intolerant admin
[02:22]<fws>Per-Gunt: Your english really centers on explitives doesn't it?
[02:22]<xzezzm>frank-: I'll drink to that.
[02:22]<pzrgc->heh
[02:23]<fws>Dangit
[02:23]<pzrgc->poonj: well if you use the same domain name
[02:23]<fws>I need some way to display notifications on machines when a backup starts, and when it completes.
[02:23]<pgz-gugv>people shit!
[02:23]<pzrgc->then you'll run into elective wars
[02:23]<pzrgc->lws: email?
[02:23]<fws>Per-Gunt: That they do -- I try to do it at least once a day. Sometimes I get constipated though =/
[02:24]<pzrgc->let's ignore him
[02:24]<laaga>ummm okay...so i would need two seperate domains?
[02:24]<fws>frank-: Email is not so hot. I want something to display on the screen real time.
[02:24]<pzrgc->the net send mechanism dosen't work?
[02:25]<fws>I broke it yesterday
[02:25]<pzrgc->poonj: well think about it. You log in to domain A, then VPN to domain B
[02:25]<laaga>it won't work..
[02:25]<pzrgc->this will expose the two PDC controllers
[02:25]<laaga>umm oka
[02:26]<pzrgc->I suggest you tie the authentification for your VPN to your second PDC credentials
[02:28]<fws>frank-: I setup proxy_arp yesterday, and the machines on one segment I can't net send to for some reason.
[02:28]<fws>frank-: It works fine for the machines on eth0, but not the machines on eth1
[02:28]<laaga>frank-, what do you mean by that?
[02:28]<pzrgc->poonj: however, this is a big job even for a win32 admin
[02:28]<fws>frank-: I either need to get net send working, but it seems to be a bug in samba, or figure out something different.
[02:28]<pzrgc->and I lack certain qualifications
[02:28]<pzrgc->lws: let me think about it
[02:29]<fws>I i could net send -M ip.address.here.yay!
[02:29]<fws>it would work.
[02:29]<pzrgc->what subnet is samba listening on?
[02:29]<fws>it's listening all over
[02:29]<fws>nothing is specified for interfaces atm
[02:29]<pzrgc->okay
[02:30]<fws>eth0: inet 10.10.9.42/21
[02:30]<fws>eth1: inet 10.10.9.42/32
[02:30]<fws>eth1: inet 192.168.10.1/24
[02:30]<fws>I have host routes specified for the 10 or so machiens behind eth1
[02:30]<pzrgc->I see
[02:30]<pzrgc->I need to sit back and think
[02:31]<fws>:)
[02:38]<fws>frank-: Tea? How many sugars?
[02:38]<pzrgc->hold on
[02:38]<pzrgc->support call
