[00:01]<svvrr1tn_>none of the dozen other winxp/2k/98 machines are having any trouble
[00:16]<vfxyv>anyone around?
[00:16]<vfxyv>not a samba question, but related ... it's WinXP question
[00:16]<vfxyv>the "username" is greyed out in WinXP when connecting to samba
[00:17]<vfxyv>i feel confident things will work if i can only specify the correct username
[00:34]<sfuyzznflydl>hey there... is there a dedicated rsync channel (for help on issues with file in-/exclusion)?
[00:34]<sfuyzznflydl>or should i just ask here?
[00:42]<prrrgvsrrg>just ask..
[00:42]<prrrgvsrrg>why not :d
[00:42]<sfuyzznflydl>heh, well then...
[00:43]<sfuyzznflydl>i have a tree in /raid with a couple of directories of which i want couple from to be rsynced to a backup location...
[00:43]<sfuyzznflydl>i tried to create a file for --include-from but without success...
[00:44]<prrrgvsrrg>have you setup rsyncd on any of these servers ?
[00:44]<sfuyzznflydl>i used + /dir/** lines in it...
[00:44]<sfuyzznflydl>no, it's on one and the same machine
[00:44]<prrrgvsrrg>your jumping..
[00:44]<prrrgvsrrg>http://transamrit.net/docs/rsync/
[00:45]<prrrgvsrrg>have a read.. maybe it will *click* a bit better
[00:45]<prrrgvsrrg>you want to rsync on the same machine?
[00:45]<sfuyzznflydl>from those dir's i include (which does not work) i want some subdirs in them to be excluded...
[00:45]<sfuyzznflydl>yes, i want
[00:46]<sfuyzznflydl>i want there directories to be synced on my whish or the one of a script to the backup-dir
[00:47]<sfuyzznflydl>i found a workaround by using + /dir*** but then i'd have to exclude - /dir/subdir*** before + /dir***
[00:47]<sfuyzznflydl>but i really can't tell if this is the way to go...
[00:47]<sfuyzznflydl>or if there's something more intuitive/simple
[00:47]<sfuyzznflydl>:)
[00:48]<sfuyzznflydl>that's the whole question then
[00:48]<sfuyzznflydl>:)
[00:48]<prrrgvsrrg>if it works.. run with it :d
[00:49]<sfuyzznflydl>was that a "maybe":)
[00:49]<sfuyzznflydl>?
[00:50]<sfuyzznflydl>and still i don't know if this will really work as expected...
[00:50]<sfuyzznflydl>:)
[00:50]<sfuyzznflydl>what for example if there are paths where one name is a substring of another?
[00:55]<v1vv0z>i've removed a bunch of printers in cups, but when i login to the server from a windows machine (using \\fqdn) it shows all the printers I just deleted ..are these stored somewhere else in the samba configuration?
[00:56]<v1vv0z>i restarted cups ...maybe i need to clear out IE cache
[00:59]<v1vv0z>would it be bad if i deleted the NTUSER.DAT
[00:59]<v1vv0z>i grep'd a deleted printer and it found a hit
[00:59]<v1vv0z>hehe
[00:59]<v1vv0z>under .winprofile
[01:01]<||aw>only if it's not corrupt
[01:31]<ygpy>hiya. I am wondering if initiating a connection to transfer data between two CIFS servers pulls the data down to the client machine, and then back up to the second machine, or if there is a way with Samba/CIFS to make the transfer go directly between the machines?
[01:31]<sm00>Anyone got 5 mins to assist with a smb mount problem? I can't get write access to mounted share from SUSE10 to Linkstation share!
[03:12]<lzrddd>Hi, I just upgraded to 3.0.23 and I get this error message when i start samba : 'init_services_keys: key lookup failed! (WERR_ACCESS_DENIED), Error: failed to setup guest info' . Samba is setup to act as a PDC and uses ldap for the backend. It was working fine in 3.0.22 . Any suggestions ?
[03:13]<lzrddd>i double checked and made sure that the ldap password was set correctly in secrets.tdb
[05:14]<mnzzyax>good evening
[05:14]<mnzzyax>I don't know if anyone is active in here right now or not ,but I'm hoping someone is.
[05:15]<mnzzyax>I'm trying to share files from my Gentoo machine over to a Windows XP laptop (and an XBox, but that goal is secondary to getting samba working)
[05:15]<mnzzyax>I've followed the gentoo-wiki guide located at http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Setup_Samba
[05:16]<mnzzyax>I compiled, installed and configured Samba according to this document.
[05:16]<mnzzyax>I can nmap my machine locally, and I see services running on ports 139 and 445
[05:16]<mnzzyax>netbios-ssn and microsoft-ds
[05:16]<mnzzyax>the XP machine is unable to see these shares
[05:17]<mnzzyax>stranger still, the XP machine is also unable to mount my NFS shares
[05:17]<mnzzyax>if anyone here is not idle and willing to help, I would be very grateful
[05:20]<wjllslyzyv>on FC5, SELinux is disabled, trying to get samba working on my internal network. I have set up the workgroup name, shares (set as writeable and visible), added root as a samba user, and associated root to the windows user Administrator.. I can see my samba share in windows and connect to it.. but authentication fails.. what am I doing wrong and if nothing.. is there anything that anyone can think of to help me on this issue?
[05:21]<mnzzyax>Wolfspirit, I think I'm the only one active in here right now
[05:21]<mnzzyax>And I am also seeking samba help, so I can't be of much use to you.
[05:21]<mnzzyax>Sorry
[05:21]<wjllslyzyv>any thoughts?
[05:21]<wjllslyzyv>ah
[05:21]<wjllslyzyv>no problem
[05:21]<wjllslyzyv>been wrestling this for about a week
[05:22]<mnzzyax>I can't even get my shares to show up on the windows machines
[05:22]<wjllslyzyv>I've set up samba before as well
[05:22]<mnzzyax>so you're further along than me :)
[05:22]<wjllslyzyv>and it's worked before
[05:22]<wjllslyzyv>are you sure it's running?
[05:22]<mnzzyax>as near as i can tell.
[05:22]<mnzzyax>i can nmap my box locally
[05:22]<mnzzyax>and i see two services
[05:23]<mnzzyax>microsoft-ds and netbios-ssn
[05:23]<mnzzyax>when i shut samba down through the initscript, these two services no longer appear through nmap
[05:23]<mnzzyax>when i start it back up, they appear once more
[05:24]<wjllslyzyv>I think there should be an smbd on the linux side
[05:24]<mnzzyax>root 21075 0.0 0.1 7136 1924 ? Ss 21:56 0:00 /usr/sbin/smbd -D
[05:24]<mnzzyax>root 21076 0.0 0.0 7136 936 ? S 21:56 0:00 /usr/sbin/smbd -D
[05:24]<mnzzyax>root 21172 0.0 0.0 1520 468 pts/3 S+ 22:22 0:00 grep smbd
[05:24]<mnzzyax>it's active, apparently
[05:25]<snmjzjw>you should also have nmbd
[05:25]<mnzzyax>that is running as well
[05:26]<wjllslyzyv>what does cat /var/log/samba/smbd.log say?
[05:26]<mnzzyax>lookin' now
[05:26]<mnzzyax>hmmm
[05:26]<mnzzyax>errors!
[05:26]<mnzzyax>some errors about CUPS, which makes sense
[05:26]<snmjzjw>shouldn't matter
[05:26]<mnzzyax>i'm not using any printers, though CUPS support might have been enabled
[05:26]<snmjzjw>I get them and it works
[05:27]<mnzzyax>[2006/07/18 19:22:03, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:startsmbfilepwent(195)
[05:27]<mnzzyax> startsmbfilepwent_internal: file /var/lib/samba/private/smbpasswd did not exis
[05:27]<mnzzyax>t. File successfully created.
[05:29]<fxzzrfn>use smbuser or something to map a user
[05:29]<mnzzyax>the nmbd log doesn't show any errors
[05:29]<mnzzyax>I don't have 'smbusers'
[05:29]<mnzzyax>err 'smbuser'
[05:30]<mnzzyax>i have 'smbcals', 'smbclient', 'smbcontrol', 'smbcquotas', 'smbd' (running), 'smbdfilter', smbpasswd', 'smbspool', 'smbstatus', 'smbtar', 'smbtorture' (wtf?), 'smbtree' and 'smbumount'
[05:31]<mnzzyax>my /etc/samba/smb.conf is pretty basic:
[05:31]<mnzzyax>workgroup = WORKGROUP
